The eye-based spells look freaking cool indeed◊ (Me and a friend having just got The Look from the leve in Mhor Dhona).

chocobo's in the back like "good lord they get weirder every patch"
Is Kugane a different nation from Doma? There's a Garlean consulate there but not a whole lot of Garlean influence otherwise so it seems like, where I am, anyway, they don't run things there.
The one Namazu guy so far is so normal. I was expecting a bunch of goofy meme fish but I didn't get it.
Hingashi, the nation to which the port town of Kugane is a part of, is indeed a separate nation from Doma
Hingashi is an extremely isolationist nation, as in the only city open to foreigners is Kugane

"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaAnd has extremely little bearing on the MSQ. Some of the jobs and crafter job quests do explore the city's history a bit more, but nothing major.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Hingashi is basically Japan and Kugane is modeled after the merchant city of Sakai. Doma is more in the position of China in that era.
If Hingashi invades Doma soon then it would be more the Korea though.
Yeah, basically it's isolationist Japan versus post-isolationist Japan, I believe. My Japanese history is poor and it's late so I can't think.
Hingashi is a much more brutal place though, since it's very quick to enact Sins of the Father, meet the slightest offense with death, and absolutely and utterly refuse to allow outsiders past that single port town.
Going back to Blue Mage as an aside, I learned that Self-destruct and Final Sting are actually pretty good for the Masked Carnival, as long as it's the last mob in the match and it doesn't have a pre-death cast (like the slimes exploding), it'll count as a victory for you.
Considering that a fully buffed out Blue Mage hitting a fully debuffed enemy with final sting can crit as hard as my level 70, Ilvl 389 black mage's fire IV's... yeah, lets you skip a lot of the last waves of fights.

Doma's landscape is based on China but its also very Japan culturally.
For a game where freeing Ala Mhigo seems to be one of the ultimate goals, we don't seem to do a lot to accomplish that objective. At least not directly.
Yeah, you are the ace in the hole. You handle the surgical strikes on the biggest targets and/or be the distraction.
Honestly I wish they had made the rank and file Eorzean forces a bit more flashy in the cutscenes, scenes with generic unarmored foot soldiers vs mechs and fully armored imperials really make the fights look just off. More mages and magic or fully armored guys in dragoon or knight armor and such would have gone a long way to selling the battles.

At the point where the majority of blue magic is from 50 dungeons and trials now, learning primal spells is sooooo agonizing. It took at least 30 Ifrit Hard Mode clears before he finally gave us eruption, and that was with 6 dice rolls, I almost would have preferred the extra hassle of EX because I feel like we all would have left with horses.
Either way, a lot of the level 50 blue magic feels really nice to play around with, Missile in particular has a surprisingly small amount of Contractual Boss Immunity, and a very high success chance compared to Tail Screw (which I've found you can also learn from the Crag Claws in The Peaks, if you want to skip farming Sastasha) and Doom, very worth doing the entire 2.0 Hildibrand story if you've dragged your feet on it.

Doma seems to be based on China and the Steppes are, naturally, Mongolia. The au ra living there are also Mongolian in culture, it seems.
(Loosely) relatedly, it feels kind of weird for BLU to be, essentially, Native American animism stolen by an Eorzean guy who took what he could carry and went home to hawk costume jewelry and fake mysticism on streetcorners. I know he's saving money to cure the plague and all that, but it still kind of does make you, as a BLU, into an asshole parading stolen magic for scraps from Ul'dahns, who just kind of make everything worse in general. And I say this as someone leveling BLU.

It's been fun.it wasnt stolen, really. he was tought willingly by the native tribe
still kind of douchey for running a scam operation from it tho
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaI'm down to just needing Eruption and Glass Dance.
Any year now...
^^True enough, yeah. And I guess when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail - or when all you have is crippling debt, everything looks like a get-rich-quick scheme? I dunno.
It's been fun. This very loosely reminds me of the irony of the Garlean Empire's attitude I'm seeing more of as I slowly make my way through Stormblood.
They call everyone under the sun a savage and look down on the rest of the world in general, and yet Garlean soldiers stationed in Doma and Hinagashi wear armor loosely inspired by samurai, and several of them take up martial traditions from those countries. The big bad's basically a classic FF Tin Tyrant samurai, even.
They can't be that superior if they feel the need to copy the people they're subjugating.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Well the Romans were very good at taking over populations they saw as savages, and yet they still adapted their armies to welcome warriors from those cultures when they saw advantages in it.
It doesn't help that Magnai's kind of a silly idiot, really.
It's been fun.magnai and sadu need their own subquest about hooking up
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaBut if that happens then we won't get any more of Magnai sighing and leaning on the Warrior of Light to help hook him up with girls. Like, yes, it's gonna happen, but I want to relish it when it does.
