And with today's installment, I'm going to predict that in years to come, Tatsuya Ishida will someday be recognized as the great surrealist of the early 21st century, comparable to Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí.

Just as with "Un Chien Andalou", Sinfest has no plot in the conventional sense of the word, with disjointed chronology, jumping from "once upon a time" to "eight years later" without events or characters ever changing, but yet completely changed. He uses dream logic in a narrative flow that can best be described in terms of Freudian free association, constantly presenting a series of tenuously related scenes.

Yes friends, Sinfest is a massive work of totally surrealist performance art, never intended to be at all comprehended, only to be beheld, and in our dismay and confusion, we become part of the work itself.

Either that, or it's just a load of lazy, very poorly formulated crap.

Twitter bird is back despite doubts on the sale. Tats seems entirely unaware of how unfettered hate speech will effect sex workers and women on Twitter and frankly using Handmaids Tale imagery whilst totally ignoring what is happening with Roe vs Wade and the direction that is going is pretty nauseating.

Something tells me Tats didn’t make this strip with both hands.

I'm imagining someone completely new to Sinfest encountering this comic and exclaiming aloud "What the actual fuck?!"

This page is carrying so much baggage, so much idiosyncratic shorthand from Tats' previous arcs and obsessions (the floating fedoras, the polychromatic handmaids) mixed with pop culture icons (the twitter bird, Princess Leia), that it would be utterly incomprehensible to an "outsider."

To people who have been reading this drivel for years, it's mostly incomprehensible mixed with banal.

I certainly agree, and to top it off, Tat puts each handmaid in a different color from the pride flag, as if tolerance and inclusion is what's oppressing them.

What I don't understand, is that some of this "Great Replacement" hatred by Tat's new friends has been focused on Asian people as well, the Atlanta Spa shooting being among the worst so far, but not alone. For some reason, this seems unworthy of his attention, while bashing Trans and now apparently Gay people is.

Somehow, tolerance and inclusion does not seem to be the greatest problem facing the world at this moment, but I guess this is how monomania works. Tat has sort of become an obsessed stalker with an electronic drawing tablet.

Hmmm ... Maaaaaybe Tats has a method to his crappiness: he's shitposting. He just wants to stir things up and annoy people. (Spoiler: It's working.)

Think about it: If he wanted to persuade people of the rightness of whatever Sacred Cause he wants to push, he could just write a fucking essay instead of drawing comics to illustrate ambiguous metaphors. He's not a bad writer; look at some of the old "Notes from the Resistance." But even there, he writes elliptically and often sarcastically. He's hard to pin down.

The thing about ambiguous metaphors: they give him plausible deniability. He can always say "Oh, you're misinterpreting it! I didn't mean that!"

(UPDATE) Huh. Maybe he's even told us, metaphorically, what he's doing to his readers: riling them up.

It's entertaining, but it's also cringe-inducing. Dammit! Sinfest used to be a webcomic that I enjoyed reading. Tats was genuinely funny and insightful, and he should have been on his way to fame, glory, and riches. And then — to use a favorite phrase — he gave up his birthright for a pot of message.

I feel bad for him. I wonder if he regrets the decision? Is he shitposting now as a Take That! to the world?

Thinking about how much Tats is still failing at delivering his propaganda. While Tatsuya is often compared with Jack Chick, the biggest difference is that Chick for all his hamfisted craziness was still fairly successful at getting his propaganda spread around and taken seriously, at least by its intended crowd.

I'm looking at this in comparison to propaganda by teetotalers, and others who propose abstinence from some type of vice. If Tats really wanted to show johns and sex-workers as repulsive, then he'd have the zombie-hooker be the in-universe most attractive for customers. That would be an easy way for him to portray the johns as crude and sex-obsessed, while also shaming willing sex-workers as raging nymphomaniacs. That way he'd have a standpoint from where to present himself as the #1 Male Ally to radfems, by pretending to reject gross stereotypical male behaviour.

I don't think Zombmaiden is supposed to be mentally disabled. (Tats is willing to say a lot of hateful crap, but "hiring a sex worker is like raping a mentally handicapped woman" is still a bit beyond him - otherwise wouldn't the other Handmaidens be like that?) I think she's just supposed to be funny.

She's an absolute failure at it, because she's being used for one and only one joke, but that's beside the point.
