I'm the one who launched that, and it was months ago that I did... but taking another look at the trope now, the current title does not seem that fitting.

The very point of the trope, as I think I recall mentioning in the original YKTTW for this, is that it's of the general form "I'll [x] you [y]" where x was typically a verb and y was typically a noun. (Or an adjective followed by a noun, etc...)

Substitute "show" for x and either "manners" or "some manners" for y, and you get "I'll show you manners!" or "I'll show you some manners!"

Alternatively, y could be left blank and you would get simply "I'll X you!"; substituting X in this case you get "I'll practice you!"

... you get the idea. The general pattern is it's saying what one will do in terms of, usually, a verb and noun given by the person it's being said to. I'm wondering if it would be better to rename this to Ill Verb You Some Noun if only to make that clearer, though I'm sort of concerned that might make it TOO narrow.

EDIT: Removed tangential point because it has since been addressed. Also, I was hoping to get the title for this thread changed from split to rename. (Heh, renaming a thread about renaming a trope...)

If I get no input on whether or not to split this, would I be allowed to remove the "I Got Your X Right Here" type examples anyway, and leave that Stock Phrase to another YKTTW? (I am the one who launched this trope in the first place, after all.)

I would support splitting off "I got your x right here" into another trope and then having the other trope be "I'll Verb You Some Noun." I am a bit hesitant to make a crowner on this before there has been much discussion, but I do not know if there really will be given the previous lack of activity in this thread.

Sorry, I guess I am rambling a bit. Basically, I support the split and I would like to help you orchestrate it, but I also would like to see what some other people think.

Well, I'll split it for now. And then we'll talk about what to rename it to, though so far Ill Verb You Some Noun seems to be the most appealing to me as well.

... could someone change this thread's title from "Split" to "Rename" then?

... I figured I'd bump this, albeit after weeks untouched, to see what people think now of the idea of renaming it. o.o

We could call it "I'll show you X" without a ptitle now.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Except that "show" isn't the only verb used here. That may seem like a superficial complaint, but really, it's a key one; the idea is that the structure involves "I'll [verb] you [adjective] [noun]!" or "I'll [verb] you [noun]!" or even just "I'll [verb] you!" We need a title that reflects the phrase structure, or at least gives a better idea what it is than the current one does.

Bumping this, because I really think the trope could use a more indicative title and I want to see how this thread fares now.
