Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Without giving too much details, how derailed is the plot?
Is it truly original and off the rails or is it the same thing but just expanded on?

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. It's more like...remixed.
Or...deconstructed, in the food sense and not really the literary sense.
All the elements are there, but the order, relationships, and sequencing have all changed. Those plot points that are "new" are mostly brought in from other compilation works, or to expand on existing material.
Without spoiling, the main cliffhanger for the final game seems to be setting the party towards the same destination as before, but by a new path.
As far as where I’m at there hasn’t been any huge derails to the plot so far asides from Yuffie having being more plot relevant and the few scenes with Zack.
I just finished up the Dyne segment and so far nothing is really off the rails, save the occasional peek into Zack's business, but I can already see the bits where Sephiroth is going to try and make things go off the rails towards the end.

Hmmmmmm….. it seems destiny cannot be averted. Maybe the prophecy I’ve been preaching about Aerith will come true.
I’ve been saying Square doesn’t have the guts to change THAT character’s fate.
And they aren’t changing much from what I can see. I’ll be getting this game this weekend. Very curious to see how they will do that scene.

Alright, so I cleared Yuffie’s DLC episode.
I gotta say, it really propelled her to a top 5 character for me. I like her and she was my black mage in Final Fantasy 7, but damn, she actually has managed to put out an emotional story while being her charming spunky self.
Looking forward to meeting her in Rebirth. Eventually. Seems me getting the game will take longer than expected.
Yeah, the stuff with Sonon and her was really enjoyable, and I notice the moral ambiguity with how Wutai is ambient towards things like free elections and fair distribution of wealth, and is more interested in just destroying Shinra and destabilizing the country to avenge themselves. Granted, it does lean towards Imperial Japan lost causer narratives but I think that’s intentional character flaws? Square better be careful how they handle Wutai in the next games.
Scarlet was a fun villain to fight against, and I swear she was channeling Terra Branford when piloting that mech.
I genuinely don’t know much about Dirge other than the basic gist of the Deepground villains, so Nero legit caught me by surprise and creeped the shit out of me. What the hell is he?
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. If nothing else, I recommend that you guys do the Photorelic sidequests in Rebirth because they sure do go places, man.
So to go against the grain, instead of playing Rebirth I've decided to play FF 16 again for some reason.
Kaze ni Nare!More non spoiler Rebirth impressions (on chapter 10 now, just reached Cosmo Canyon)
- While the story stuff that happens there is great, I think Gongaga is probably my least favorite region of the game to explore so far. It’s just kinda frustrating to navigate
- Cait Sith is kinda weird playstyle-wise I’m not entirely sure how his Moogle works
- Yuffie is absolutely my favorite character to play as, especially with her doppelgänger ability
- There needs to be a Queen’s Blood spinoff
Sony gains console exclusive rights to the VII Remake trilogy.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Got something that isnt paywalled?
Well at least they are still going to eventually come to PC.
It would be very weird for only Remake to be in PC.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.There was a rumour a while ago about VII Remake being a Switch 2 Launch title, so I guess this quashes that one.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobNintendo's already proven they can thrive off the strength of their entire first party lineup alone, so Switch 2/Switch Pro/Switch whatever will be fine whenever it launches.
I don't anyone think Nintendo is doomed without FF 7
but it is funny how history repeats since arguably Nintendo losing Final Fantasy is when Nintendo lost its Crown as the most dominant
I wasn't suggesting that Nintendo's doomed without it either. I simply meant their first party exclusives can easily fill the void.
PC release (and most likely multiplatform?) for FFXVI fairly soon.
Burning love!More spoiler-free Rebirth impressions (I’m halfway through chapter 12 now)
- I’m surprisingly finding myself using Aerith the least out of all my party members, she just takes the the most effort to build ATB. Cloud, Tifa, and Red are pretty much my go-to team.
- I started getting the hang of Cait’s gameplay once I realized you actually need to let the mogle attack on its own to build up his unique abilities
- While most of the mini games are fun there are one or two really frustrating ones, particularly the one for the Cosmo Canyon Photorelic quests.
- Man the ship wars that spawn from this game are gonna suck
Still absolutely loving my time with the game

re: ship wars: is it true you can take ANYONE to the Gold Saucer this time?
yes You can actually get an Red XII and Cait date this time, though supposedly the Cait (along with Vincent and Cid) is only available on New game plus seeing as you can actually choose who to date then and Cait has no relationship meter.
