Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

That's not exactly the same though, since in terms if their physical capabilities they can still get strong enough to punch dragons in the face and whatnot even without the crystals. There's also random mages running around and magic spells being sold in shops, so the crystals aren't necessary to use magic. It would seem like the main use the crystals in V isn't to strengthen the party physically or give them powers they couldn't otherwise learn with more time, but to impart knowledge and muscle memory to make them instant experts in a given profession.

On the subject of FF 8, that's kinda how I wrote the primary See D characters in my fanfiction. They're very vulnerable without their magic and G Fs, yet still can hold their own over most other common civilians, yet it is clear that the magic puts them heads and shoulders above the rest. Otherwise, like someone said above, they are just child soldiers given weapons of mass destruction, but can make some dumb decisions at times.

It's why I really like the final battle of FF 8. Ultimecia really feels like an overwhelmingly powerful force and you're basically cheating just to keep up with her.

You gain power from the magic you take from other places, and use magical spirits to make you superhuman. A sorceress, I presume, just has magic powers of their own.

There's a thing she does in the final fight where she can just shatter an entire stockpile of your magic. Like, boom, all your blizzara is gone. It makes you feel like a poser. You don't have real power. SHE does. And the magic you use is just a pale imitation of hers that she can effortlessly shatter.

She destroyed the spell junctioned to my main mage's magic stat. SO it really felt like I was being dismantled at a certain point.

When she destroyed my GFs in that final battle, I started to feel like the game hated me and wanted me to lose. It was frustrating. Once I figured out the mechanic, I managed to pull off a win, but man... rough times. That said, it did a great job of making me feel helpless before an overwhelmingly powerful force, something that final bosses should do but can't always pull off.

I have a love-hate relationship with 8. I like the gameplay and story integration of the junction mechanic, but as an actual game mechanic, it's wonky and annoying. I like the story concept of the Guardian Forces draining out memories as the price for their power, but I find it very difficult to empathize with the characters themselves as a result, since they are literally blocked from meaningful development.

Then there's the part of the fight where she pulls a massive monster out of Squall's imagination, and then merges herself with it.

Then you learn to stop relying on Normal attacks and just abuse the fact Limits are easier to get

Squall being able to deal out 70k+ per every 20-30 seconds -if you get a finisher... more if you get lionheart and ulty unfortunately has a this little problem that she ALWAYS gives 7 hits on renzokuken'

Zell... gawd I forget just how much more he can potential do per duel but he can do more then Squall's Lionheart combo though Squall's is faster

Irvine only loses out due to the fact that he has to have ammo in the inventory 'which ironically makes him the only party member who needs a resource' If not for that limitation he would outdamage Squall and Zell due to Quick Ammo being able to crit.

Sephiroth, The gave him extra scaling bonuses due to how abusable certain moves for... Don't know why they didn't extend the same courtesy to Ulty even with close to half a mil hp, She simply cannot stand up to the Sheer stupid amounts of DPS the VIII crew can pump out due to limit spam.

[up][up]The best part is that she's using the Draw mechanic on Squall to get Griever. She's doing the exact same thing you've done several times to get Guardian Forces.

Just about finishing up Final Fantasy XII International.

...

WELP. Guess I spent the last two hours going through the Bahamut for nothing. Solidor whupped my ass on his third and last form just as he was flashing red. Like he was toying with me for a good 2 mins, killing one party member after another with his near one-shot kill cannon as my team desperately trying to keep up with Phoenix Downs. Then finished us off with a party-wipe Teraflare. 2 hours down the drain.

Granted, I'm only around level 52 average party level, guess it's time to grind for levels until I'm in my 60s.

Final boss is level 55. Have you at least got the best equipment from the shops?

I would try having one character on resurrection duty, maybe even two, and focus the remainder on damage. It's how I got through Yiazmat in the end; my healing couldn't keep up with the damage being dealt, it was more effective to just constantly revive KO'd characters.

Bubble and Bubble Belts help a lot with mitigating damage from Vayne's gun since it ignores armor and protect.

I'd like to state that I really don't like superbosses that make the actual final boss look like a gnat in comparison. While I haven't played FFXII, I've heard that fairly infamously describes Yiazmat and Vayne.

I mean, that's kind of the point of a superboss, isn't it? They're not mandatory so they're allowed to be more difficult.

Especially as time goes on and they expect everyone to finish their games, that's going to happen less and less.

The bonus boss is for people that want a challenge. The final boss is a bowling pin to knock over to finish the story.

I'm reminded of a JRPG (it was a Dragon Quest game, I think?) where if you defeated the superboss under a certain number of turns, that superboss would fight the final boss for you. And yes, that superboss does completely eclipse the final boss in strength.

Some games you beat an optional boss it will power up the final boss. SMT Nocturne and Trails in the Sky come to mind.

I think only FFXIII and LR is the only one that does not have their super bosses available till after you beat the final boss. You gotta actually beat the final boss without getting too over powered.

FFX though is by far the worse in the 'getting overpowered thanks to optional content' by the time you actually get to the final boss you should 1 shot every phase with ease.

Yeah, Vaybe whupped my butt hard with his stupid armor piercing cannon that he spams at low health. Anyway, I don't really know what gambits are good. I'm kinda just using basic ones I guess. Raise/Arise/Phoenix Down up top, followed by healing followed by any status ailment recovery followed by attacking him. So if we're really down on our luck, we get nothing but folks focusing on healing constantly. I have not many Arcane Magic other than the Dark series and no real Ancient magic or whatever it's called that includes Decoy, Bubble and all that. No idea where to find them since they're not found in stores. I've pretty much bought out all of Bafolheim Port with 80,000 gold to spare. International really swaps up where you find things now.

I mean, what level are you at? The Undying is a killer if you are taking it easy and being lazy, I know from personal experience. He will wipe you if you aren't focused on the fight and think it will be a breeze like everything else.

But I was always high enough level to beat him even without some of the stuff you have and also with the same basic Gambits.

Its Japanese name is 'Der Richter' 'The Judge' and has Spiran for 'heaven and death' written on it. Its supposed to be Yevon's last resort to subdue Yuna and her guardians.

Considering its death animations its gotta be a Machina.
