Bugenhagen was waiting for a JRPG party to show up so he didn't have to solo run that dungeon.

Can I just say I always felt the most for Quistis in FF 8. She has like, the saddest bit of character progression in the game.

Starting out as a teacher, then being demoted because she simply isn't a very good leader, and doesn't have the charisma to command respect. So she ends up subservient to one of her own students. Because Squall, the brood dude, is somehow a born leader.

To be fair, who other than Squall is going to be the leader? He was teamed with Zell and Selphie.

Squall makes a lot more sense when you realize that he's the main character because he gave Edea and Cid the idea for Garden and Seed in the first place. He created his own heroic destiny basically by accident.

Should have made Seifer a See D.

Better than fucking Zell.

As for Quistis, she's the only party member outsdie of Squall with a real story arc. You just have to make sure she's in your party at certain points to see it. Namely, take her into space and have her in your party when you go meet Rinoa at the Orphanage.

Seifer's a chuuni asshole who lets his romantic delusions get in the way of following basic fucking orders. As Squall's foil, he's basically just as fucked up but in a different way.

I still love that Edea straight up murders the president in front of everyone, gives a melodramatic speech about how she'll kill everyone, and the crowd just celebrates without a care.

Yeah, she's probably mentally influencing them, but none of your party are affected.

I was gonna say she doesn't actually mind control people but then I remembered she straight up did do that to Rinoa in Deling City, so IDK.

They really shouldn't have. Even in a game where everyone makes bad decisions constantly, that particular one is masterfully sidestepped.

Due note that she is only a year older than him. Quistis's ambition really got the better of her and got herself promoted before she was ready.

You will notice though throughout the game she is basically second in command of the Ragnarok and in charge whenever Squall isn't there. While her BFF Xu is that in the Garden.

If the game ever got a sequel I would expect her to be a teacher again and a good one after having some experience under her belt.

I swear its so weird that the most I know of some of these characters is from Kingdom Hearts.

People feel bad for Quitis sure but most seem to miss the point that Quistis makes Consistently poor choices because she's designed to appear as the responsible big sister... when she's basically not or as Super Jeenius Quistis tends to make the right choice for all the wrong reasons and gets credit for it.

Its like Zell is an idiot for his emotional immaturity not cause he's book dumb 'which based on the various party blurbs, Zell's probably the most well learned with his knowledge of history and tech coming up the most

My favourite is the double whammy of "Let's give the high profile political assassination job against one of the most powerful people on the continent to a teenager who's never actually killed anyone before" and "I want to go apologize to someone in the middle of our high profile political assassination job against one of the most powerful people on the continent."

And those aren't even really them??? Like, the whole thing with Cloud, Sephiroth, and Tifa appears to be that two of them are mental projections or some shit of the first. At least that's how it was explained to me. And it just so.. fucking ridiculous.

As for making Seifer a Seed: Please note that he was a school bully and that giving him more power would have been one of the worst ideas. Zell may be a dumbass, but he also doesn't have that nasty mean streak in him. (He is a good mama's boy.) And also, that fucking off during a military operation? Was him basically fucking off during his qualification exam. Making him a See D after that is like making a law student a lawyer after they refused to take the bar exam.

There’s also Aerith, Yuffie, & Squall being besties giving new timers the impression that they come from the same game.

And while they were at least smart enough not to make Seifer a See D...who the hell thought it was a good idea to make him the head of the disciplinary committee? That is the worst possible position you can give to a bully.

I stress that FFVIII's dumb cast of numbskulls is a feature rather than a bug, unlike most JRP Gs.

Yeah there's dumb stuff like the drill prison or Ragnarok being right there, but the character drama is top notch by FF standards.

Was Quistis in any of the Kingdom Hearts?

Squall, Selphie, Seifer and his gang are the only VIII characters. Everyone else is from VII or X.

No. However there were a few more FFVIII characters besides Squall planned to be in the games, such as Zell and I think Irvine.
