Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

So my TV crapped out on me and I can't afford one of my onw until next month. Right now I am using a borrowed monitor with no HDMI port and the DVI to HDMI thing that came with it doesn't seem to work right.

So my triumph over Orphan and turtlesphants will have to wait.

In the meantime, my stay on Pulse and my knowledge of XIII-2 has made me think of something .Etro pretty much caused the death of everyone on Pulse. Ragnarok would have won the War of Transgression b ut then she stopped it and I can only assume the reason Pulse is now a desolate, dead place devoid of sapient life is because Cocoon reteliated to the genocide with genocide.

What did you think of my FF 6 playthrough? It might sound a bit whiny, but I'm surprised there weren't any comments about it.

I guess the people here are mostly interested in more recent games.

[up][up][up]No. Pulse is void of human life - aside from Yuel, Caius, and company - because the fal'cie kept making more and more l'cie for literally any reason. That would have happened regardless of Ragnarok's success or failure.

Are you basing that just off the Cieth Stone quests? They're kind of ridiculous and comedic so I never took them seriously. I certainly never thought they had anything to do with the actual plot.

Also while Caius and Yeul are alive somewhere, I figured it was just them. The "Farseers" are long gone.

Someone has to be Noel's ancestors.

From XIII-2's datalog:

Message of the Orbs

At the height of Paddra civilization, the seeress Paddra Nsu-Yeul of the Farseers prophesized its destruction. In one of history's great ironies, the prophecy itself ignited the civil war that destroyed the nation.

The seeress realized that her very words had the power to change history and the future, and so, with her Guardian Caius and a few select escorts, she left the city for the wilderness.

She covered her face with a veil, cast off the crown that made her ruler of Paddra, and became simply Yeul the Seeress. Soon after that, she and her small band of followers disappeared from the pages of history.

From LR's character datalog:

Yeul

...

Noel is also a descendant of the Farseers and worked alongside Caius to help protect his Yeul.

Well most everyone lives on Pulse come XIII-2 so the list of Noel's ancestors is pretty big.

But fair enough.

But what wiped out Oerba, then? Turning people into Cieth doesn't change the landscape. I figured it had to be retaliation from Cocoon. It was a war, after all. Cocoon must have destroyed a lot of shit on Gran Pulse.

And where do the Farseers fit into this timeline? Before the War of Transgression? After?

The Fal'Cie destroyed most life on pulse, kept giving everyone a crappy focus after the war out of spite since Fang failed. There were survivors but we never see them.

Oerba had a Fal'Cie that protected it and was the source of its famous flower fields Vanille talked about, that Fal'Cie left and the area decayed. It was kinda implied to be Anima but I don't think it was ever confirmed.

For those that play it, how much Stamina do you have in Record Keeper? I'm close to 100 now, but I'm curious as to the current possible max.

so my sister was playing FFXIII, and I couldn't help but notice.

Is it just me, or does Vanille...kind of overact in everything she does? There's just a really exaggerated bounce and energy to everything she does that honestly is kind of annoying.

[up][up][up] I don't remember Vanille saying a fal'Cie made Oerba full of flowers or that it left.

[up] Vanille is overacting. She's a Stepford Smiler.

If there is one thing my second run of XIII has made me realize, it's that I don't like Fang atall and I don't get her popularity.

She's introduced like she's a villain, she goes on and on about how she needs to kill people, which is the reason the whole game happened - who'd have thought that threatening a fal'Cie right in front of it would have consequences? - and when she's not talking about killing people, she's being 'cool." Cool in the worst, most try-hard, un-cool sense of the word. Also in the third game she literally leads a group of bandits.

I can understand liking any other XIII character but not her.

She says the place was filled with flowers under the blessing of the Fal'Cie, which was Anima.

Looking it up, Oerba was just buried in Crystal Sand which was blasted off from Cocoon during the war and everyone abandoned the area.

Current max stamina is 155 3/5. I am at 149 right now, still quite a few Elites to go. The ones from III to V terrify me (horrible synergy and all, as in not a single relic weapon), the others should pass without it being a problem when I put my mind to it.

I can't even explain why I like Fang. Maybe it's just because I don't find myself having serious issues with her like I do Lighting and Hope. Maybe it's because I'm actually just okay with her existence, so it's not a real fandom I have for the character.

Fang's cool. She's a fighter with attitude, and she hasn't been milked to death. She has personality and charisma. She's not particularly developed, I guess, but you don't necessarily need that to like a character.

Does XV (or Versus XIII) have it's own thread?

Fang is strong, capable, protective without being motherly, has her own goals and morality (characters that just follow the MC for no good reason annoy me), looks awesome, has a killer voice, and is from fantasy!Australia.

On the subject of XIII

Part 4: Palom Porom (Yes, I'm making that reference)

  • Lightning, seriously, take that knife away from Hope. I like Snow as much as you do, but not even I want him to be shivved by a teenage boy.

  • Vanille...Fang...Dajh. Sazh is going to be livid.

  • Why on earth do sewage pipes lead to the place where food is made? That has to violate a few health codes.

  • Kids used to play in there?!

  • Lightning has a point. Why are the fal'Cie helping humans?

  • Snow...please, for the love of fal'Cie, please shut up.

  • Ice-cycle. That pun is terrible, isn't it?

  • Fang. Now we have balance in weapon weirdness. Normal = Twin pistols, unarmed, spear. Weird = Gunblade, assault glider, whatever the heck Vanille's weapon is.

"Lightning has a point. Why are the fal'Cie helping humans?"

What else are they gonna do? It's not like Carbuncle or the others have much choice. Phoenix is the artificial sun of Cocoon, what else is it supposed to do except shine light and warmth down on everything?

There's probably some poor waste management fal'Cie out there.

@ Fang Talk

That's a good point, she also has the least development ouf of the entire XIII cast. The others realize they are pretty shitty human beings and try to make amends.
