Despicable Me Franchise

Making this thread in honor of the new Despicable Me 4 trailer and because we apparently don’t have one for the whole series.

where is Gru's brother!

dont tell me they've dropped that plotline already.

Also where is Kyle? Is he dead? Or maybe he just isn't in the trailer.

What about Dr. Nefario, is he still there since he wasn't shown with Gru and his family?

I think Nefario's voice actor got in some.. trouble (I don't remember the specifics but I know it was pretty bad) so maybe he was dropped. And a lot of fans didn't seem to like Dru, so maybe Illumination shoved him to the side.

I'll admit, seeing Gru and Lucy have another kid took me by surprise!

Russell Brand was accused of sexual assault and abuse. If Nefario ever does come back, he’ll doubtless be recast.

To be honest, I had thought he was already away from the series when they wrote Nefario out of the third movie; given Brand's long streak of controversial behavior even before the most recent thing, so I was genuinely shocked to see him in Rise of Gru. The most recent thing, though, yeah, if he wasn't blacklisted from the series before, he definitely will be now.

I just watched it and I'm interested to see what they do certainly.

I saw the first on DVD about a year after it came out and thought it was really good. I'm trying to remember when I first saw Despicable Me 2 and I think it was a year or two after it came out as well. The first Minions I saw in December of 2016 to fully catch up at the time.

Despicable M3 and Rise of Gru I each saw in theaters about the time they came out.

A franchise that's now fourteen years old and still active… Wow. How would've thought!?

Oh yeah I saw that ad. Thought it was amusing. Haha.

They made fun of NFT bros too.

Say what you will about the quality of their movies, I heard they have a good working environment. More that what can I say about say, Disney.

I don't remember that someone said that Disney Animation is mistreating their workers.

Was more about the AI thing. With that said Disney isn't exactly in the eyes of people for better working conditions with all the stuff about canceling shows or not rehiring laid off workers during the pandemic. And of course, Iger's statement during the strike.

I think this was more for the live action department like Wandavision and Secret Invasion. In their animation department, it still not confirmed (but neither denied) that their animation movies are us using AI now (I remember Wish was accused of using AI, but there still no proof to confirm this).

I know they're just cartoonish and childish and have a little more than occasional moments of intrigue and amusement in an intelligent manner. What the Minions movies had going for them so strongly was that they had so many colorful characters that the Minions were surrounded by—and had the stylistic time periods to help add to them too.

For one thing, the Minions traveling across the world to The Box Tops' "The Letter"? That's an unbelievably memorable moment.

Lego is making Despicable Me sets including OH MY SWEET MERCIFUL-

Well, Lego did their best... mostly.

But I can't stop laughing every time I see Lego Gru, looks like he's suffering for being build like that.

Wonder what Minion Rush could do and add to tie into the new film.

Part of me thinks the two trailers being so different is a good thing because it means there's so much we're gonna get, while a part of me also worries about being overstuffed too.

They actually had sets before and from what I've seen, they have great mileage with the Minion mold.

The Minions actually lend themselves pretty well to Lego, considering they are already simple geometric shapes in bright colors. I wonder why they made Gru's head like that though instead of just making it one simple block.

They really have a hard time doing humanoid sculptures. That Liberty Statue still is often mocked.
