Pendulum of Death - Just a narrative trope or is it a gameplay one as well?

I have noticed that while in non-games, that trope usually means lowering a bladed weapon. However, I have noticed that in video games, there are axe (and other bladed) pendulums acting as a timing based obstacle. Is it the same trope or not?

It's just that I did find pendulum obstacles to be quite common but I'm afraid to add them to Pendulum of Death page.

Whenever I think about a deadly pendulum, I think about an double-edged axe attached to an axel and swinging in the directions of the blades.

This deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball.

So basically treat it like Water-Geyser Volley, noting the differences how the trope is treated narratively vs gameplay-wise?
