The Rescue of Paradise: An Adventure RP (Interest check/sign-ups)

A long time ago, in the tropical island of Paradise, there lived a tribe of mermaids. They lived in peace and freedom under the watchful eyes of the Mother of the Sea, cultivating a civilization on the lands of the island. They swam in the seas, catching fish and collecting seashells; grew fruits and vegetables in orchards in the jungle; building bridges and walls surrounding the villages; and build temples in honor of the Mother of the Sea and her nature spirits.

But such halcyon days must come to an end. The Great Behemoth envied the prosperity of the island and sought to conquer and destroy everything the Mother of the Sea held. He wrought natural disasters such as typhoons, volcanoes and floods upon the island, accompanied by throngs of monsters that ravaged the natural beauty of the islands.

The cruel, brutal onslaught could not be stopped by any means, as hundreds of mermaids and creatures perished from the disasters and monsters. In a last-ditch attempt to save the island and eventually all of the world from the clutches of the Great Behemoth, the Mother of the Sea and her nature spirits sacrificed themselves to seal the Great Behemoth and his foul creations.

The sealing claimed the lives of the nature spirits and drained the power of the Mother of the Sea. Slowly, nature claimed the island along with what remains of the mermaid's civilization, restoring it to its natural state as an emerald stone in the sapphire seas.

But then, the seal slowly eroded over time. The Great Behemoth's presence on the island grew as monsters appeared and perils became deadlier. It was only a matter of time before he was released from his earthly prison. With little power left, the Mother of the Sea drew a gaggle of girls, from the modern world, on a tropical vacation to the island.

Now, those girls must work together to save the island from certain doom...

Welcome to Paradise Quest, the first forum roleplay created by Adept Gaderius. It's a tropical-themed High Fantasy role-play where participants play as normal girls embroiled in an epic adventure to save the world by restoring the island to defeat the main enemy.

It's encouraged to interact with each others as well work together in solving scenarios presented throughout the roleplay. The adventure will be pre-planned, and any questions can be asked in the discussion thread.

I might be interested but haven't thought of any character ideas yet.

Take your time to develop a character. I'm patient and willing to wait.

Interested in this, will look into making a character or brewing up a concept when I have the time

So I have some questions:

1) why no boys?

2) what if the kind of character I might make might not want to dress as would typically befit a summer vacation?

3) About how pre-planned are you talking? Will any of the characters' choices have effect on the course of the story? Or are all the beats planned all the way down to how characters might end up?

4) What kind of tropical vacation clothing do you mean?

So I read through the post and I have questions. I might join, but I need more info before deciding. Sorry if it seems like a lot of questions.

1. From the way you word it, only humans are allowed species wise. I'm assuming the hair color thing can be chalked up to hair dye. Is this the case, and are human hybrids allowed? I'm talking about a human with nonhuman ancestry that goes back like 1000 years ago hybrid, so mostly human and a tiny tiny hint of nonhuman (like 1-3% nonhuman genes, no powers would be shown from this little after all).

2. Why is it that only girls are allowed? Is there an in universe reason for this? This seems... oddly selective for a being desperately needing help. You would think they would take any help they can get.

3. What's up with the clothing restriction? That makes no sense. Even if I willingly ignore logic, surely there would be girls who would go to the island for non vacation reasons. Why not include them as well? Besides, the non vacation ones could bring in skills that could come in handy later on.

4. What would you consider fantastical skills? I can think of many different useful skills, and I'm not sure what you mean by that.

5. How on earth will these normal girls deal with magic and other fantasy stuff without a lick of magic or superpowers?! Honestly, it seems impossible, even if we ignore a lot of logic...

• Name: Rowan Banton
• Age: 21
• Personality: Rowan is a strong willed, determined person, a fighter by necessity, who grew up in a very rough situation and had to develop into a rougher and more capable person to survive. Rowan is the type of person who has at one point bitten off the ear of a particularly cruel Screw the Rules, I Have Money! kind of bully. He just wouldn't take no for an answer. Rowan has a very significant degree of street smarts, in addition to being a very athletic, gifted sort of person - a lot of Rowan's childhood was spent dealing with two older Big Brother Bully types. A take no bullshit kind of person, Rowan has a frank and brash disposition that spares no one.

• Appearance: Dressed in a casual white t-shirt, skinny jeans, and an apparent small to medium bust, Rowan has light blond hair to about the shoulders, light, icy blue eyes, and very pretty, effeminate features. Despite the pretty features, Rowan is also very athletic and physically capable, toned and well muscled - very visibly capable of throwing down.

• Backstory: Born into a veritable charismatic political dynasty, Rowan Banton had to deal with the stresses and various abusive problems that came with growing up with Greg Banton as their father. The Church professed a love of everyone, but behind closed doors it was "we love everyone, but not in our backyard". The effort was made to make Rowan a more proper Banton, a true Christian who would cast off their sins and be born again... and Rowan said nuts to that. The last attempt by Mitch and Jake Banton to force Rowan into "the prayer closet" ended with Mitch needing a trip to the ER.

The experience - and the lack of care therein - forced Rowan throughout the younger years to develop a bitterly independent streak. When the lodge near the forest provided no succor nor empathy, Rowan left to the wild and developed skills hunting and fishing for food - learning to responsibly make fire to cook meals when the family tried to separate Rowan from food at the house. Hunting by necessity involved fashioning weapons from what could be found.

Then, after the incident with the prayer closet, Rowan was sent off to live with "that liberal aunt of yours", Christine York. A charming, kind older woman, Christine let Rowan in and tried to give a more normal school experience - even though the bullies there were almost as bad as the ones they just escaped from. Rowan greatly appreciates Aunt Christine - working at her house doing chores in addition to doing hard labor at her struggling business.

As a reward for helping out so much, Rowan was given an all expenses paid vacation.

• Age: 86
• Personality: Fun-loving, outgoing, promiscuous. Flavia takes full advantage of Paradise’s vibrant nightlife, even though she's in her 80s. Flavia dates all types. Based on behavior alone, one might guess she's in her 20s.
• Appearance: Flavia is adorned with a tropical mumu and a sun visor, though her dress cloaks an absolutely blinding gold bikini from ASOS DESIGN. Metallic fibers give lots of shimmer to this triangle bikini with tie straps for adjustable support.
• Backstory: Flavia knowingly and actively participated in the Seaweed Isle Occupation in her 20’s, though she evaded punishment by giving the US government the names of numerous conspirators and personal friends of her’s. She was then folded into Operation Starboard, a mission by the CIA to utilize enemies of the state and prisoners of war to coalesce and cooperate on building the most aerodynamic and speedy yacht possible. Her success in the architecture of the “ST-Dolphin” model of yacht ended up serving the United States well in the Snorkel Race, and the following Wet War, assuring her an early retirement at 39. She’s spent the rest of her days partying it up from one locale to another, occasionally ducking and dodging any jilted lovers, government hitmen, and assassination plots. She’s had a long life, but now she’s the life of the part-ay!
• Skills: Espionage, Seduction, a Velvet-y Soprano singing voice, and proficiency in a move called the “Tallahassee 46er”.
• Other: She has a false hip.

• Name: Krystal Methany
• Age: 26
• Personality: Loud and brash, Krystal has Opinions and doesn't care who hears them. The world is a stage for her, and she's the star. Her only goals and motivations are to be recognized the world over as one of the greats in her form of artistry. She steps on all who stand in her way, and takes no shit from no one.
• Appearance: Standing at 6 feet tall, Krystal wears a sparkling pink bikini top, adorned with massive bird of paradise feathers in a hundred different colors. She wears golden nail covers and her hands and arms are coated in jewelry, as well as countless tattoos running up her thick, muscular arms. At her waist she wears a long tropical skirt wrapped in various layers, all in garish bright colors and covered in glitter and feathers. Due to the way the skirt is folded the side of one of her massive legs is exposed, as it's clear she never skips leg day. As for her face, she wears heavy dramatic makeup, deeply accentuating her cheekbones. She wears a golden glittery blush and eyeshadow in a brilliant rainbow of colors, her eyebrows painted to perfection. She has massive hoop earrings on her pointed elf ears (facilitated by golden ear covers), pink eyes with golden heart-shaped pupils (colored contact lenses), and thick curly shoulder-length black hair with pink tips.
• Backstory: At a young age, Krstal was kicked from his home and left on the streets by his religious family. He lived alone for some years, barely surviving, before he was eventually taken in by a house of legendary Drag Queens, who taught him their various arts. It was under their care and the various balls they hosted that he learned to dance, sew, drive, and various other related skills. On his 16th birthday he took on the persona of Krystal Methany and took to the stage, from which she has never left. Over the years she has built her way up in the world of drag, building a name for herself and acquiring moderate fame. It was then that she appeared on the famed Double Reacharound Drag Race, hosted by Mike Uchi and Chev Corvette, and won the contest, becoming the nation's beloved. The prize? Of course, an all expenses paid vacation to Paradise Island.

Probably gonna officially announce not being interested in this anymore. Just lost motivation and forgot to say something.

Name: Victoria Alleluia Aurum

Age: 52

Personality: Victoria Alleluia Aurum is what one would call an opportunist. She seizes any opportunity that comes her way, and if there are none, she will make them. She also takes it as a personal offense if people aren't basically worshiping her and her genius, but she'll at least be professional about it. Appearance: She is an older woman, with pale skin and touched up wavy blond hair that looks unnaturally bright. Victoria Alleluia Aurum's idea of "casual", being a successful biotech businesswoman, is much different than the typical person's. She wears a black, Steve Jobs-esque turtleneck, and white pants. She wears the same outfit every day to encourage less thought on appearances and more thought towards her business. The only indication that she even realizes that she is going to a beach, is the fact that instead of her tall heels she typically wears to work, she is wearing fancy black sandals.

Backstory: Victoria is a highly successful businesswoman from the Bay Area, having made her fortune off her biotech company, Organismal-Sin, which works on making artificial organs and body parts for the sake of transplants but also for the sake of convincing venture capitalists that their eyes are very, very stupid, and they should buy cool new ones from her. She has been formerly married to one man, that she met in Stanford during her undergraduate years that she only married because she thought he was the only person even close to being an intellectual equal to her. Over the years, their relationship became turbulent after they began cheating on each other with younger people. After the divorce and a company scandal after one of the investors died of multiple organ failure after implanting a company product, she's here on this vacation to forget things and also be a cougar.

Skills: Victoria has the following: - A high level of scientific knowledge, especially about the human body. - The power of charismatically bullshiting, convincing other people to invest in her and what she is doing - High endurance and leg strength from all the time she spends on her Peleton bike. - The power of being a cougar (in the hot older woman sense, not the animal sense she's still human)

• Age: 21
• Personality: Susan is kind of heart and yeah she has a little bit of an ego but she's more than happy to let others prance about trying to prove superiority while she lazes back with something to snack on, comfortable in the feeling that they are not her betters. She puts out the archetype of a ditzy rich girl out into the world because she is, for the most part, exactly as shallow as that archetype; but sometimes she lets slip surprising wits or a threat hidden in a joke. She also adores riches, most commonly in the form of material wealth such as jewels and gold and she seems unimpressed by ephemeral wealth like a bank account number or god forbid, shoddy estimations of how much some man's cryptocurrency wallet is worth.
• Appearance: Susan is a bright and beautiful Italian-American woman who is almost too good to be true: a faint tan, platinum blonde (almost naturally white) hair and amber eyes. Her clothing choice for this 'little' vacation is surprisingly modest on the surface, a white t-shirt, puffy jacket-vest, track pants and sensible sneakers accessorized with a backpack, large white-framed sunglasses and a big straw hat. Of course underneath all that is a sporty black swimsuit but really it's a little impractical to be purely in swimwear just for a ferry ride when you don't even know what the weather's going to be like.
• Backstory: Susan Leones' father is a very powerful, very rich and very dangerous man who nonetheless adores his only child. Susan has lived in his palatial villa on the outskirts of San Francisco for her entire life so far, a pampered existence occasionally punctuated by watching dad attend to his business, sitting in quietly on formal events or to partake in the best private education his money and influence could get her.
  • She never knew her mother, who died in childbirth, but was told so much of her by both Susan's father and also her uncle on her mother's side. By all accounts she was as bright and innocent as Susan herself and her loss strained deeply on all that knew her in life.
  • When she became an adult, Strun was allowed to strike out into the world outside of the villa; using her father's influence to partake in the best night life and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city, always with her father or one of his men keeping a close eye on her.
  • This vacation is the first time she has been trusted to do things entirely by herself, she hopes that she can thrive in her first ever solo outing. She may be right, in an odd way.
• Skills:
  • A well-trained operatic singing voice she also brings to bear on pop karaoke.
  • Vintorez, one of father's men, is teaching her knife-fighting using dull daggers. Susan one day hopes to beat him in a fair (though still non-lethal) match.
  • Surprisingly keen wits.
  • Basic horticultural theory, from hanging out with the gardeners at the villa.
• Other:
  • She's a bit of a gamer, preferring singleplayer story-driven adventures with enough action to keep her mentally activated. She has yet to find her ideal game, one that blends power play, flight mechanics, loot collecting and base customization in accordance with her favorite topic (see below).
  • Susan Leones fully believes herself to be a dragon. This is kind of a consequence of her believing that her father is a dragon. The truth of the matter is up for OOC debate (I wrote this profile assuming that belief is entirely false) but regardless Susan finds herself unable to provide solid evidence as to her supposed draconic nature beyond the personality traits and common activities of her very powerful, very rich and very dangerous father.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.
