Okay, I think the difference between domestic Disney+ and foreign Disney+ was what tripped me up about the Bleach thing. But I definitely remember some fear-posting when people got wind of them aquiring Bleach.
The Culprit Hanzawa is a comedy spinoff from Detective Conan. We follow the progress of a prospective murderer as they move to Beika Town to find an old enemy. So far the main joke is that in this series the general public actually reacts to the fact that Beika is the murder capital of Japan. But as when people ask why Gotham residents don't move, the answer is "extremely reasonable rent."

Like that milf isekai, but with a nee-san
This one started as a web-novel, but then got got officially serialized as a manga without ever becoming a light novel. Not sure what namespace to put it in
Aren't Web Novels just Literature?
Sounds...interesting.
GIVE ME YOUR FACESaint Cecilia And Pastor Lawrence got moved to Summer.
More isekai. Sorta. This one is actually fairly different from the norm
I'm still not clear on what the point of attaching Ai to a generic idol anime is
EDIT: Otaku Elf. Oh shit, I actually really like the manga for this one
Edited by Hylarn on Feb 24th 2023 at 2:40:03 AM
That isekai show about cult leaders son and a goddess.
UPD: Nevermind, already in the list.
Edited by Nachtwandler on Feb 24th 2023 at 3:25:42 AM
I’d say name recognition… but that would have made more sense a few year ago, back when the Ai hype was still fresh. Now I don’t hear much about her, or v-tubers in general…
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.Vtubers are still definitely around, and are actually expanding more.
Watch SymphogearYup, it's just that different ones are all the rage now. Damn, I have no interest in V-tubers but my aquitances discuss them regularly.
But that series looks like just a roundabout way to promote yet another idol show.

Sequels of note
Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!
While positioned as a spinoff, this is by the original author, and animated by the same staff. Think of it as a prequel
The Ancient Magus' Bride
Shares staff with the OVA, not the previous season. I do not believe said OVA is canon, though
Dr. Stone: New World
Shares staff with the special, not the previous seasons. Said special is very much part of the main story
In Another World With My Smartphone
New staff... actually has a pretty good history
Mix: Meisei Story -Nidome no Natsu, Sora no Mukou e-
New director who has very little experience in the position
Franchise stuff
Alice Gear Aegis Expansion
Despite being based on a mecha musume action game, it's unclear if this will feature any mecha musume or action past the first minute of the series
The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls U149
For franchise fans. I say this partially because it throws a bunch of characters at you at once and doesn't do much to introduce them... but mostly because it's honestly rather mediocre and I doubt you'll get much enjoyment out of it if you don't already care about these characters
Opus Colors
They haven't actually announced this as kicking off a multimedia franchise, but come on. Anyway, this shares a lot of staff with Starmyu, so if you like that I imagine this should be of interest
World Dai Star
Well, there's some big names attached... just not directly to the anime. Anime staff is pretty run of the mill. The original story writer in particular has some notable credits (Akame ga Kill, Yuki Yuna is a Hero...). And others that were clearly just done for a paycheck. So who knows, really
Kizuna no Allele
Ah, Kizuna Ai, the first truly successful vtubernote . Currently more of an elder statesman figure, and hasn't really been active for around a year. From what I can tell, this is using her clout to promote a semi-related idol/vtuber(?) project
Anyway, the staff is pretty middling, so I wouldn't have the highest of expectations here
Isekai
The Aristocrat's Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far
Apparently this goes a few unusual places eventually, but it's a pretty generic ride for most of it. Can't really recommend if you're not into isekai
I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World
A sort of maximalist wish-fulfillment fantsy. Most isekai are some combination of wanting to strong, have sex with hot ladies, and live an easy life. This series features being strong, having a harem, being rich, being handsome, winning the respect of all, doing well in the real world, and so on. Beyond that, it has surprisingly okay writing for the main character, and the PV sure looks nice
I don't know why the short form is IseLeve. 'Level' isn't part of the Japanese title either
Summoned to Another World... Again?!
There's some stuff about being re-summoned and all, but the real gimmick here is that the author is a sadist. I don't mean that it's exceptionally cruel, I mean that one of first things that happens is the MC re-establishing dominance over a lady knight by spanking her
...I'm making it sound too good. It is, by and large, pretty standard isekai fare. There's just more violence involved in the harem acquisition than usual
Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion
Villainess isekai, more or less. There's a number of differences from the standard set-up, but it's still a vaguely-regency fantasy setting with the main character trying to avoid her tragic fate using knowledge of the media she's been sucked into. Compared to what's been getting animated so far, this is a rather more serious take
The source material is complete, and it's short enough that this could conceivably cover all of it (may need to rush a bit, though)
My One-Hit Kill Sister
So, from skimming the first volume or so, it's pretty generic adventurer stuff, except some of the time MC's sister is around, and she's a totally excessive brocon. At no point did it strike me as better than okay
Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou
This actually reminds me of early Tenchi Muyo more than anything? There's an interesting plot and some great imagery, but it spends an awful lot of time on fanservice and middling comedy
Other fantasy
Dead Mount Death Play
If you're familiar with Narita, this is him doing what he usually does, but in a more chuuni setting than usual. If that doesn't mean anything to you, what we have here is a large cast of characters in a dense plot with a couple different conspiracies. It features a fair bit of action, and is sorta (trying to be) a celebration of chuunibyou. Mostly pretty solid. Does start running into problems eventually, but I don't expect the anime to get that far. ...Though the early material has a fair bit of random fanservice
And, no, I don't know why they decided to have the necromancer go by 'Polka'. Polka is a clown name
Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku
Shounen battle manga for 16-year-olds that want to think they're above reading battle manga. Well, that's a bit more dismissive than it deserves. The writing is fairly decent, and the manga has some great art and monster designs. The big, goofy personalities of much of the cast does tend to come at odds with the edginess of the plot, though. The early story in particular has it rough
The manga is complete at 13 volumes. No word on if they plan to do the whole thing
The Legendary Hero Is Dead!
...I'm not sure what to say here, since the source manga is honestly quite bad. But it's a failure of execution rather than concept, so I don't really know how it'll work as an anime
The manga is finished, but at 20 volumes I wouldn't expect this to be a full adaptation
Mashle: Magic And Muscles
Starts off as basically "what if Harry Potter was Saitama?", but then it realizes that it's running in Jump and turns into a battle manga. I mean, it's still kinda funny, but the jokes are things "the group's opponent is menhera and they find that annoying"
They're planning to cover the whole thing despite it not being over yet. Probably be 3 cours in total, but I'd expect them to take a break somewhere in there...?
Sacrificial Princess & the King of Beasts
It's being sold as a romance, but a lot of it is a charming exploration of a fantasy world
The manga is finished, but I have no idea how far the anime plans to go (they'd want 3 cours to do the whole thing, which is a bit high)
That new breed of romcom
The Dangers in My Heart
Initially it's about looking at the difference between this chuuni boy's edgy inner monologue and the awkward reality of a kid with a crush. The chuuni aspect gets downplayed pretty quickly, leaving a fairly typical school series for most of it. With some romance
A Galaxy Next Door
It's a sweet and fluffy relationship, but more has a more 'married couple' feel than the typical 'teen romance'. Particularly since there's kids involved
My Clueless First Friend
The gimmick is that there's this gloomy girl who gets bullied by calling her a reaper, cursed, and that sort of thing, and a chuuni boy who thinks all that's really cool. The girl finds the boy standing up for her somewhat romantic, the boy is oblivious. Every chapter I saw followed these beats
Insomniacs After School
Super laid back and atmospheric. And, yes, it belongs in this category. The romance between the leads gets a fair amount of focus
Harem comedies
The Cafe Terrace and Its Goddesses
Despite being by a guy best known for more dramatic romances, it's pretty light-hearted. And not terribly cohesive— The levels of fanservice and silliness are both quite variable
Romance/drama
Yuri is My Job!
Sounds like a goofy parody of yuri, but, no, it is quite yuri, and it's much more of a drama than a comedy. The main complaint I've seen is that the first volume or so is when all the the characters' worst traits are at the forefront, making it start out rather unpleasantly
Slice of life
My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999
Not really that focused on the romance angle? Mostly a low-key drama. Doesn't do all that much with the gaming aspect, either
Skip and Loafer
Slice of life dramedy. It looks like shoujo, but it runs in a seinen mag, and I'm not sure if romance ever actually happens
Otaku Elf
The original title is actually 'Edomae Elf', which is more accurate. There's not really much exploration of otakudom, but there is of Japanese history. First and foremost a slice of life comedy, though
Drama
Ao no Orchestra
It feels like whenever there's a series based on an art it's either about cute girls faffing around, or it's a melodrama. This one is a melodrama
Thriller
My Home Hero
One of those agressively seinen manga. You know, where everyone's blandly ugly and a slightly to extremely shitty person. Then the anime colours everything brown and leaves the audience wondering why it wasn't adapted to live action instead
Oshi no Ko
Wait, we're leaving 'oshi' untranslated? Does this mean that we've finally entered the era of using it as is, instead of awkwardly trying to find an English equivalent?
So, it's a sort of mystery/thriller, set in the world of Japanese 'talents'. It is something of an odd combination, but one that seems to work for a lot of people (I've never been able to get into it)
Comedy
Too Cute Crisis
One of those "taking something way too seriously is funny" comedies. Might be decent if it's shorts, but I don't think it is
Rokudou no Onna-tachi
It sounds like a harem comedy with uncomfortable mind control undertones, but, no, most of the time is spent on dudes talking to each other, at least in the chapters I skimmed
The manga is complete at 26 volumes. ...The anime's probably not going to get finished
Sci-fi
Heavenly Delusion
Both a post-apocalyptic adventure and an ontological mystery (there's two storylines). I found the adventure story more compelling, though neither are bad
I should note that there's a strong emphasis on sex/gender and little concern about making the audience uncomfortable. ...I dropped the manga because I just really didn't want to watch someone get raped. The anime... might reach that point?
Original series
Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers
One of those series where otaku are being attacked by a supernatural force and have to fight back. I guess now that they're accepted as a lucrative market they have to get their oppression narratives somewhere?
It's the brainchild of an underground artist I really don't know much about. As far as the actual anime staff goes, the director's credits aren't great, and the writer has really only done episode scripts before. So, uh, this is probably going to be a mess. Might be an interesting one?
The Marginal Service
Doing that original anime thing where there's obviously a major twist to the story but they're not telling us what it is. Or really what the story is. Looks likely to be outrageous, though
The staff is... fine? Like, not anyone I'd cite as specifically a reason to keep an eye on it, but not worrying either
General comments
- What's with all the finished manga? Usually you want the source material to still be running to get that sweet cross-promotional synergy going
- So many sequels, so many romances. Are we sure the winter and spring seasons didn't get swapped?
- Speaking of romances, holy shit. Like a quarter of the season
Yesn't
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysWell, we have an airdate for that new Pokemon anime (April 14), but we still don't seem to have a name...? Like, some of the JP promotional material suggests suggests that it's literally named 'Pokemon', but the PV's narrator keeps calling it 'the new series' even in Japanese, and there's no such implication in EN to begin with. This is weeeeiiiird. Reeks of hiding a twist, but what kind of twist would a toy commercial aimed at 10-year-olds really have that's worth hiding?
Edited by Hylarn on Mar 3rd 2023 at 3:23:33 AM
I see it crop up all the time, but what's this nonsense about "Reiwa Wave" and "New Breed of Romcom" stuff? I know all of the ones mentioned and they're great, but it just feels like stuff that's been done before only just NOW getting the recognition it deserves.
Light and fluffy romances aimed at male audiences existed before, but they're way more common and popular recently. It is absolutely a trend
The prevailing theory is that the First-Episode Twist will be that Liko will be revealed as Ash's daughter.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks Marathon
Given the context of the series it's used in I really don't buy into it, but okay.
Bungo Stray Dogs just aired prob its most heartfelt and dramatic episode so far. Glad to see it get fanfare.
I think you want the winter thread
Ah, thanks.
Oooooh yeah, as someone who's read the manga until it ran out of chapters, there is a large amount of very un-Disney stuff going on. But then, I suspect that Disney+ US will be extremely aware of this and have it be on Hulu in the US while HD will be on Disney+ everywhere else, like with Bleach: TTYBW.
Unless Hulu wasn't mentioned whatsoever?
Like I said, I read the manga, so I can say with 100% sincerity that yeah, there are definitely gonna be words about Kiruko (the main girl)'s reveal. It's gonna be like freezing-cold water splashed onto them and that's all I have to say about that.
Right, I think that might have been more in reference to Summertime Rendering (aka the one with the teenaged boy having a Groundhog Day thing, but with 100% more survival-horror with body snatchers while teaming up with one who looks and acts a lot like his deceased childhood friend and oh look, she's almost always in a swimsuit), but I want to think they'll get around the bend.
Eventually.
