Galactic Senate Military Base Hanger C, Hosnian Prime

The Galaxy was changing, in the wake of the dramatic fall of the Empire and the reported assassination of both the Emperor and his right hand by rebel forces the new Galactic Senate was taking its first steps into a whole new galaxy of possibilities. Throughout every world slaves were being freed of their shackles and those allowed to abuse their powers were brought to justice.

So it was quite rare to find an empty hanger in a military base, but that was the case of Hanger C, only containing a single ship of expert craftsmanship that looked like it had just come off of the production lines. This would be the vessel that would carry the newest group of Republic Scrappers on their adventures, many of whom would be arriving to see their ship for the first time before their eventual meeting with their liason within the greater organization of the new Republic. Their was no grand party or banner hanging, but each would know they should be there. For some they would be meeting their crew for the first time, for others it would be a meeting with old friends.

But above all, it was a starting point for an adventure that would take its place in the stories told around the Galaxy. Of the Scrappers of a Lost Era.

Oeyac'laži – Hanger C

Had there been other people around when Oeya walked into the hanger, she might've shown a degree of calm and control usually expected of a Jedi such as herself. Given she walked in alone, however, she didn't hide the expression of excitement and awe on her face, a grin stretching at her cheeks as she paused to take in the full majesty of the ship.

Well, it was technically a humble thing. But it was so proud, so new. It was refreshing to see something so hopeful, so optimistic in front of her. Almost without thinking, she stepped forward to lightly touch its hull, feeling it over through The Force.

Hello there, she thought, having no illusions about the ship's inability to respond but feeling the urge to talk to it anyway. Thank you for taking us on this journey. I hope you'll serve us well on our travels. May the Force be with you.

This prayerful, meditative state leaning against the ship's hull is probably the way Oeya would be found by the others coming in. She was so still that she almost seemed asleep, intensely preparing her mind and spirit for the journey ahead.

Hangar-C

NL-Z wondered exactly what he was doing. Scrapping? Flying around the galaxy with a group of strange sentients? Like most droids, he had an innate preference for solid ground (or a ship) under his treads. Space was the opposite of all that, and a far cry from the alleys of Coruscant. Was this the most intelligent plan? Was it a mistake? But another part of his matrix resisted those questions. Out there was a mystery, and of course the lost technology they'd mentioned.

Nails adjusted the coat it had selected for this trip (a droid buying clothing had sparked a few quizzical glances until he'd had explained they were for an upcoming business trip, which was true). The ship looked pretty advanced for a "scrapping" trip-clearly there were some serious credits invested. The droid adjusted his path so that it could approach relatively concealed from any of the folks who were already here. I wonder if any of them are droids?

A moment later, he spotted a young Twi'lek resting against the side of the ship. Nails didn't know much about them, but from the little he'd seen while working, they seemed to rarely be criminals and were more likely to be the victims. An elderly one had even hired him to pose as her servant so she could hide from an unspecified threat (though no danger had occurred, leading him to suspect her memory core had been faulty). She'd also called him "Hewag", which was neither correct nor endearing.

Considering, Nails decided that total subterfuge was unneeded if they were going to be traveling as a group. He preferred to solve mysteries, not create them. So NL-Z stepped more firmly onto the floor as he approached the sentient. One hand paused over the handle of a weapon, but he sensed no threat. Still, a cautious droid was a droid who was able to keep being cautious."Hello. Are you assigned as a member of this crew? Authorized to be in this area?"

Cahryera - Hanger C

Well, I feel special now. Special-er. Cahryera mostly spun her way to the ship. Add that this made the luggage she carried roll meant that she was anything but subtle upon entering. She kept looking every which way to get her fill of the hangar, no matter that it was more or less empty. For one thing, if this was the kind of facility that her new baby needed... And she had to take care of this ship from the get-go. With money.
That was only part of it. A saga would start here. Cahyera wanted to memorize every inch of their starting point. She'd need the details when she told the stories.
"Hey!" Cahryera purposely made herself known to the others already gathered by the ship. She mostly snuck up on people she was aiming to kill, and people in this field probably thought the same way. "I hope you didn't name him yet." She pointed her head at the ship. "I wanted to be a part of that."
"And if you're flying up with me in our soon-to-be-christened little baby," She snapped and twirled before pointing her thumbs at herself. "I give you the stunning and unique Cahryera Nim'ail at your side. Hi!"

Oeyac'laži

“I am,” Oeya first replied to the droid, as it was the one most ready to pull out a gun on her. “Don't be alarmed. I'm peaceable. Also, hello~”

Only then did she turn around, hands raised to show she was unarmed and presenting herself with a gentle grin on her face in a friendly fashion. She then acknowledged both the droid and the other woman present with a polite bow of her head, calmly resting her hands over her belt in a modest manner.

“My name is Oeyac'laži, or simply Oeya. It's a pleasure to meet you both! And no, I haven't christened it yet. It wouldn't be my right,” she acknowledged, glancing back towards the ship for a moment before looking forward again, unable to hide her excitement. “I admit, I'm looking forward to this! This'll be my first time properly out in space. Excluding transports, of course... but that's all been to get here. Finally...”

She let out a content sigh, as if relieved she had made it. Now that she'd loosened her stance, her arms had sagged enough to reveal her belt; upon which a distinctive metal cylinder was held on by a leather loop to her side. It was a glossy black in colour, decorated with intricate groove patterns filled in to be flush with the rest of the metal using a layer of gold. There was probably little else it could be mistaken for.

Cahryera - Hangar C

"Oh sailing the void is great!" Cahryera gave the ship an affectionate pet as if it were a bantha. "Especially in style."
Without much ado, Cahryera slid across the floor, making to put an arm around Oeya's shoulders and pointed to the ship and then the sky/ceiling. "Think of it this way, fair knight, a ship makes the entire galaxy home. Except Coruscant. Bleugh. Every place you ever wanted to go is right there now. Traveling the expanse is smoother than sailing the oceans; your ship glides through the void and its just you. And you can drop in on the people below at any time."
"Plus when we name him, then whenever we land we get to say..." Cahryera tapped her cheek a moment, giving a name a second's thought. "Allo! 'Rancortooth' calling!" She paused and looked at the ship. "I'll keep working on that name I promise."
"I've never traveled with partners before." Cahryera shrugged. "I'm sure we can compromise on travel music."

He paused to face the newcomer as the lightsaber was revealed. NL-Z didn't know a great deal about those weapons, but the way she'd revealed it seemed to indicate that she felt confident about her skills in that area. No point in appearing hostile. He greeted the cheerful Anzat. "I have no real preference about music, so my "vote" is irrelevant, Cahryera Nim'ail. Nor do I have any experience of a home. I am where I find myself." His voice shifted, becoming less artificial. " Play what ya wanna, says I." He adjusted his jacket again, keeping his hat brim low and his eyes semi-concealed. "Everyone minds their manners and credits, and we'll all get along just fine."

Caerrle — Hangar C

rattlerattlerattle

Caerrle's toolbox rolled alongside her as she made her way down the hangar. It came up to about her waist, which, given her own impressive height note , gave the impression that she may as well have had an entire workshop's worth of tools in there. And indeed, she did.

Caerrle was no stranger to travelling with companions. While she spent her earliest years out of university as a lone freelancer, she had gotten used to sharing space with other employees of the Rebellion ever since they brought her onboard. Hopefully, with the war long past, this new venture would be at least slightly less chaotic.

Caerrle waved and gave a brief vocalization of greeting as she approached her new crewmates. As soon as she was close enough, she signed, "<Name's Caerrle. I'll be traveling along with you all from now on. If any of you need upgrades of any kind, I'm your gal.>"

The droid in the suit felt awfully familiar to her. She recalled having done work on one of that particular model years ago for a friend of hers. Could it be...?

Oeyac'laži

“...Yes, ‘Rancortooth’ might need work...” Oeya agreed after a moment's pause, taken aback by Cahyera's physicality and finding herself unable to do much else but go along with it. “I've... no real preference for music, so maybe we could preview some once we're inside...?”

Yet someone else came, a Wookie by the looks of things. Oeya smiled in greeting and returned their introduction with her own, using the same sign language.

<Hello there, Caerrle!! I'll keep that in mind. It's lovely to meet you! My name is Oeyac'laži.>

The droid pivoted again at the sound of the toolbox, his hand lifting to touch a blaster before dropping again. A Wookie? Is that Caerrle? He stepped toward her, lifting the brim of his hat in greeting. Internally, he registered an odd sensation. ''She is the one who..made me what I am today. How do I greet her? Does she remember doing so?"

"Greetings, Caerrle. It is a fortunate sign that you have joined us." he spoke in fluent if stiff Shyriiwook. Switching back to Basic, he addressed the others before repeating the basic question for her. "Now that we got a big brain on board, anyone got an idea where we're goin'? Are we just takin' off and following the first star we see?"

Cahryera - Hangar C

"I promise you I have a good brain on board," Cahryera said to the now much more interesting droid.
With a wave to the saber user—that she realized she'd only assumed was a knight—She stepped toward the wookiee and the droid who had joined them. Then she held out her arms for proper handshakes. "Caerrle! I assume you're the big brain they were talking about. Sorry I don't know sign language, and I don't know if you understand me, but if you know your way around those tools then you're already awesome." If the wookiee took it, Cahryera would shake vigorously. Or try. The wookiee was much bigger than her.
"And I think we would just follow bounties like the old days. By the way, what do I call you?" She asked the droid, stretching out her other arm for a shake from them. "I do not want to call you 'hey you', the whole trip, dear." After a beat she added. "Or 'dear.'"

Ashley - Hangar C

Thud. Thud. Thud.

The rather distinctive sound of metal-on-metal steps heralded the arrival of another member of the veritable menagerie assembling in the hangar. This time, another droid, a towering metal beast of a class-4 battle droid lumbering its way into the hangar as it gave its shoulder-mounted blaster a quick check. Or, as it would turn out, her - the droid's gender revealed as she turned to look back where she'd come from, to loudly call out, and given the acoustics of a starship hangar, probably make herself more than noticed by the others present.

"Pick up the pace, Arnie! I've been rusting since before the Empire fell, and even I'm faster than that!"

With that, she turned to instead approach the rest of the people gathered by the lone ship around, giving the bunch a look over as she finished adjusting a loose screw on her shoulder-mounted backup plan. After a moment of observation, she caught a quiet moment to speak up.

"... Right. Two bog-standard sacks of meat, a tin can who looks more rusty than I do, and a damned Wookiee. Definitely one of the more... Interesting jobs I've been dragged into. A2-L3 prototype battle droid, at your - incredibly reluctant, may I add - service."

He nodded politely to Cahryera and shook her hand. "Hello. Pleased to meet ya'. Hope this whole thing goes real smooth." As he spoke, the droid studied her features, hoping to identify her species. And why was she suggesting bounties? Not that he minded. With an offhand gesture, he also introduced the Wookiee to the others. Internally he was pleased that she was here...and that he could apparently communicate with her without the others knowing. A cautious droid was a droid who was able to keep being cautious.

Then he turned his head to take in the new arrivals. Though of course, his face couldn't show emotions, an observant person would be able to somehow see his eyes rolling. "Guess that idea's all shot to hell. Who's this charmer?'' Nails didn't bother to ready a weapon this time. The bigger droid clearly had more firepower. Better to play it cool and see what the bucket of bolts was going to do next. Especially if it had a partner somewhere nearby.

Oeyac'laži

“If you have a problem with us, be out with it now,” Oeya said flatly in response to the new droid, seeming to be completely unamused by their attitude. “Otherwise, salutations. A pleasure to meet you. Unless there's more coming in... should we enter the ship now, if only to get acquainted with it...?”

There was a mild hint of excitement in her tone, like she secretly wanted to just dash inside then and there. Her earlier ship-caressal was only further testament to that theory.

Arnasson - Hangar

"Yeah, yeah, there's no need to rush, you know? Gotta save energy for the actual job."

'Arnie' followed not long behind A2-L3, the hood on his old Jedi robes still up. On his belt hung the two guard shotos just barely out of sight, with his Republic-era rifle held at rest in his hands. It was meticulously maintained, the mark of a decent gunsmith given the age this thing came from. This was a man who appreciated his classic blasters.

"And it's often the most interesting jobs that pay well, Ashley." He took a moment to look over their new acquaintances for himself. One of them was a Jedi, clearly enough, judging from the lightsaber, and there was 1 other Force sensitive. That...would be a problem, for them both, given he'd left the new Order not that long ago. Things would certainly not be going smoothly with this crew. Unless she was another deserter like he was. Best to find out.

"Ah, a Jedi? And another Force sensitive. I'm Arnasson Ernu, and Ashley here's my business partner, as it were. Don't mind her, she's like that with everyone. Her way of being friendly. Nice to meet you all." He offered a small, polite smile. Corellia had a reputation to uphold after all, with the whole 'charming rogue' image that Han Solo had popularized.

Hangar

The sound of the lift falling once more rang out over the now occupied hangar, an older female human stepping off once it had reached its peak and walking over to the group. She wore a military uniform of the New Republic and a stern expression that gave her the appearance of stone. Beside her a younger human male whistled a tune, only for his song to be cut off from a stray glance from the woman.

"It seems like everyone has arrived, then let us push through pleasantries and get straight to business," she pulled out a small holotablet from her pocket and opened it, allowing the projection to rise between herself and the crew. "My name is Kathmadi Chesanc and I'm in charge of the Republic Department of Reacquisition in regards to all contractors. After today the only reason you will see me is to receive an award or because you've done something that forces me to detain one or all of you." despite the harshness of her words there was no malice behind anything she said, she was blunt but not to the point of it being personal.

"As you know the Republic was put in a tight spot after the fall of the Empire, you're job is to help alleviate the burden put upon us by reclaiming Imperial supplies. Ships, weapons, information, and rogue officers who have refused to turn themselves in," the holographic images switches between the various items as she spoke. "Of course we don't expect you to try and haul a ruined Star Destroyer or cruiser with your ship, instead aboard the vessel you will find an override code that will allow you access to any Imperial ships engines. After that you will either make orbit or planetfall depending on the vessel and shut down the engines. Once completed you will secure the area to the best of your abilities and then send off a beacon. After that all you have to do is wait by the ship, facility, or otherwise until a Republic salvage ship and its escort can arrive. After that you simply need to sign for the handover of goods and your job is complete. An inspection will be done to determine all things of value aboard the ship, from electronics to weapons down to the metal that makes the hull. From there a standard price will be paid to your crew, from start to finish the entire process should only take a single week in GST (Galactic Standard Time). Your payment will then be divided three fold. First a portion will come out to pay off the ship you are leasing from the Republic until such a time as it is paid off, do your jobs well and this portion will disappear within a few years. Second any materials you loan from any Republic bases, including food, materials, and any other goods will be subtracted. What remains is then divided between all members of the crew at your own discretion. That being said," her face became deathly serious.

"Each member of your crew will be paid, what they do with those credits is up to them, whether for upgrades," she nodded to the droids. "Sending it to the temples," she nodded toward the Jedi. "Or simply put in a bank each member of the crew will be fairly compensated. The barbaric acts of slavery and forced labor put in place by the Empire are a cursed stain upon this Galaxy, and any who try to repeat it will be duly punished," she seemed to calm for a moment and focused back on her usual calm.

"Beyond your responsibilities this position does come with perks as well. You will each be considered members of sufficient military rank to push past red holotape as it appears while retaining a certain level of freedom from bureaucracy that normally comes with such a position. When you act you do so with the full strength of the Republic's backing. So long as you do not take advantage of this fact for your own purposes beyond your job you will be protected by the full might of the Republic's forces no matter where you travel." With that said she turned to the young man. "This is to be your liaison for the future, go ahead and introduce yourself."

The young man stepped forward with a smile, clapping his hands in front of himself. "My name is Gale, Gale Cordore. I'll act as your go between when it comes to dealing with both payment and any other matters that might come up. Essentially think of me as an unofficial member of the crew, and don't worry about payment, I've got a nice office job and I'm paid well enough. That being said if you find any interesting flora or fauna on your travels I would love to get pictures, I've been planet bound for most of my life so seeing the Galaxy is always a treat." unlike Kathmadi, Gale was an open book of excitement and nervous energy, always with a big smile on his face and talking with his hands and full body.

"From this point Gale will answer any questions that you have. The ship has been fully serviced and is ready to fly. Onboard is an access to the Republic Holonet, which can give you access to any information or rumors on where to search next. Good luck, and May the Force Be With You." with that said she made a quiet exit from the room.

“And with you,” Oeya responded in kind to the woman as she made her exit, a soft smile on her face as she looked between each member of the crew. Finally taking in Gale's enthusiasm, she took that cue to break out into a wide grin—her typical Jedi composure falling away as she jutted a thumb towards the craft.

“I'm going in! I want to see how it looks...!”

With only a head gesture towards Cahreya for her to follow as warning, the Jedi turned on her heel and ran for the ship, hoping to find the most accessible hatch inside. Not even her status as a Knight could withhold her natural excitement.

Her master would be having a fit if he saw her like this, she knew.

Cahryera - Hangar C

"I didn't know it worked on droids too," Cahryera put her hands behind her head and made a pose while the droid studied.
She turned with the droid—who hadn't given their name actually—and regarded the newcomers. For about a second. "Sorry you feel that way, honey," The hunter responded to A2-L3. And that was that.
Now, for Kathmadi well Gale, there were important questions: about the contract, about their insurance for the ship, about which bank wasn't corrupt as Nar Shaddaa...
“I'm going in! I want to see how it looks...!”
"!" Cahryera's head snapped to the girl doing just that. The ship was open. And she was standing here. "Hey!" One step and the hunter accelerated for the hatch and called over her shoulder. "Sorry, will kiss you on the cheeks later! Gotta go see the rooms! Group hug! See you in a sec!"

NL-Z Hangar C

He'd been listening carefully to the Republic officer's speech, making sure to record it for later study. He nodded politely at young Gale. "She didn't mention bounties on any Imps we might find. An oversight, I'm sure, but worth mentioning. Usually, there's a dead or alive attached. I prefer alive. Dead's just messy and disintegrations make identity hard to prove later." Nails added, "I'll see about sendin' you some real pretty pictures, kid. Galaxy's too big not to see some of it before you're scrap.'' To Arnasson and A2-L3 he offered "Well, I'm sure we'll get along just fine. It'll be like taking clams from a Gungan."

With another small nod to the newcomers, he started walking towards the ship, making sure none of his weapons were showing. While he didn't want to show it, he was just as curious about their ride as Oeyac'laži and Cahryera, but he was a professional. Professionals didn't squeal with excitement (unless they'd missed a shot of oil in the joints recently, and he'd done it twice that morning).

Caerrle — Hangar C

"<Nice to meet you as well, Oeyac'laži,>" Caerrle replied back to the Twi'lek, signing her name back to to get a feel for it. <So far so good>, she thought to herself, <She seems nice, and I'm glad at least one other crew member knows GSL.>

Next was the comms droid. Upon closer inspection, this was definitely the same one from seventeen years ago. With a slight nod, she answered him in her mother tongue, "<Good to see you again. Liking the new look.>" Caerrle began to wonder — if the ET-72 she modified for Manger Shivan was here, then where was Manger?

Her train of thought was interrupted by Cahryera enthusiastically introducing herself to Caerrle. The Wookiee hesitantly accepted her handshake, by which she was slightly jostled from how energetically the bounty hunter went about it. <This one seems like quite a livewire,> Caerrle thought to herself. Nonetheless, she gave a nod to show her that she could understand Basic just fine.

Then along came another droid, a much bigger one this time, followed by a human man, presumably a Jedi based on the robes he wore. Upon the large droid's introduction, Caerrle signed in mock-offense, "<Hey now, something wrong with Wookiees?>"

"[...] Don't mind her, she's like that with everyone. Her way of being friendly. Nice to meet you all."

"<That so? Well, then it's lovely to meet you too.>"

After getting the run-down from Kathmadi, Caerrle decided now would be as good a time as ever to find the best room to set up shop in. She rolled her toolbox with her up the ramp, giving a wave of acknowledgement to Gale, and began her search.

Gale watched as some of the crew raced past him to get a look at what would be their new home for the foreseeable future, but still made sure to answer the questions put forth, starting with Nails. "Any high ranking Imperial agents can be turned over to Republic forces for a fee, through your primary mission is focused around regaining materials for use by the Republic first and foremost. While seeing that justice is done is important the Republic military, former members of the Rebellion, and the newly formed Jedi are already working toward that. As for former Stormtroopers and low ranking Imperial agents...well that's where it gets complicated." a frown crossed the young mans face.

"A lot of them were forced into fighting during the last few years so the official rule is if they shoot at you, shoot back. If they don't get in your way and aren't causing trouble just ignore them. Sometimes they are the only law enforcement on worlds the Republic hasn't reached yet. That being said if they are abusing their authority or trying to do anything beyond the pale, you have authority to do what you think needs to be done, and there will be a small fee paid toward any materials used."

Inside the Ship

The inside of their new ship was a marvel to look at, mainly due to the fact that it looked like it had just rolled out of a factory before being placed in the exact spot. Every inch of the ship was clean and sterile, but that also left it feeling rather without life, like a home that had never been lived in before. That being said there were a number of crew bunks to one side and lockers to another containing the basics, including a few blasters of various models and spacesuits in case the air was compromised.

A small sitting area contained a holographic projector and a number of chairs. The design was slightly open, giving a much more relaxed atmosphere then what would typically be found on a starship of this size. "There won't be enough bedrooms for everyone on the main level," Gale entered after some of the others and pulled out designs for the ship, projecting them for everyone to see. "Normally there are two storage areas on this ship, but we gutted the one without access to a cooler in order to install more. They won't be as well equipped as the ones on the main hall but they're bigger. Beyond that you have the basic weapon systems installed and enough fuel for a few jumps and enough for a full refuel in your cargo area."

Cahryera - Hangar C

Cahryera spun. Alot. Each wall was just as shiny as the last one but no harm in seeing them all. She didn't stop moving and twirling like a top until she found the cockpit.
"Hello, baby," Cahyera chose a random (low-button) portion of instrument panel to gently caress. "I'm your new leading lady, and aren't you all spec'd up!" She writhed her hands together with a wild look that hopefully only the ship could see. "We're about to see what 'a few jumps' means when the others drag their slow butts onboard."

Oeyac'laži

“It's gorgeous...” Oeya couldn't help but grin as she stepped inside, peering all around and letting the Force wash all throughout the vessel in an investigative manner. “It'll serve us well. Very well. But if there's still not enough rooms, I'm happy to make a sacrifice. A Jedi can rest almost anywhere.”

In theory.

“Also, Cahreya, please leave some of the ship for us,” she added with a slight chuckle. “I can tell you want to claim it all for yourself already.”

Cahryera - Her New Ship Cockpit!

"That's rubbish," Cahryera answered the Jedi's offer. I was right! "Like we're letting you rest on the floor." With exaggerated movements, the hunter plopped herself into the pilot's chair. "And I've got all the room I need right here. Me and baby can talk all night."
After a beat, she seemed to consider Oeya's request. Or at least, some time passed between Cahryera getting cozy in her chair and her speaking. "Oh, fine. I guess he has to get to know all of us as long as I stay his main squeeze."
In a not quite though kinda challenge to Oeya, Cahyera answered Oeya's force wash of the ship. She did not investigate nor force the force into anything fancy. Cahryera simply felt the force around her and 'splashed'. It didn't break the ship. Which was good.

Nails-Hanger C-New Ship Inspection

Nails paused slightly when he entered the main hallway. It certainly looked spacious enough that they wouldn't be tripping over each other. He listened to the chatter of his new crewmates as they discussed the ship. Nails didn't know much about spaceships, but they seemed knowledgeable and excited, so he supposed it was all right. With a faint subvocalization of amusement, he slipped into what appeared to be set up as the Captain's cabin. Not that the droid had any interest in leading this eclectic group, but it pleased him to guess what the reactions of the other "Scrappers" would be to his choice. The cabin itself was fairly spacious, and he stashed the small case holding some additional tools and his clothes in one corner. A canvas satchel found a home on a nearby shelf alongside a tiny glass massif he'd picked up somewhere. He tucked a blaster under a pillow-droids didn't sleep, so few sentients would expect to find one there.

After testing the door lock and leaving his room, Nails then stepped over to one of the compartments holding the blasters. Next up was the cabin, where the short droid made a quick assessment of the ships' communications controls before turning to Cahryera. "All looks just fine. It seems like the Republic is willing to shell out some solid credits for this job. Must be some pretty valuable stuff out there to give us such a fancy ship. So you're the pilot, eh?"
