i stay barefoot in my bedroom, and whenever i go anywhere else, it's in flip-flops (mostly for safety than anything else). i absolutely hate wearing shoes and only wear them when there's no alternative

Has anyone here ever heard of the r/barefoot subreddit? It's quite an interesting place if you want to start phasing shoes out of your life.

In other news, my parents have noticed me going out barefoot at least twice and only commented on it slightly. Good job!

I'm the opposite. I feel very uncomfortable when I'm barefoot and avoid it whenever possible. When I was a kid, I felt practically naked if my feet were exposed. I thought I was the only one until NicoB said he used to feel the same way in one of his videos.

Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

[up] I used to be that way as well, in part because I was taught that being barefoot outside wasn't really beneficial because of worms and such. Despite this, my parents had asked why I never wanted to go barefoot around others. And now, to be honest, I have honestly realized that I've always hated shoes and been closeted about it. Being barefoot is really nice on the grass, and I like getting dirt on my feet.

ANNOUNCEMENT!!

If you hate shoes and feel like trying out how it is without them, may I recommend the 'One Day Without Shoes challengenote . It happens every May 10 (Monday this year) and the deal is that you basically have to spend 24 hours or more completely barefoot. You may go places during the day if you choose to do so, the only rule being that you should be wearing nothing that covers the soles of your feet. Anklets and maybe barefoot sandals are fine, but no socks or anything along those lines.

So if you hate shoes and feel like taking a step away from them, kick them off for a full day! You don't have to join if you don't want, but if you ever feel like it, you could simply try it out. No pressure!

So yeah. One Day Without Shoes, Monday, May 10. You in?

Whelp! I had a major barefooting experience today.

I got up at about 5 in the morning to see the partial solar eclipse from one of my neighbor's lawns and I didn't bring a pair of shoes. I walked up there barefoot, walked back barefoot, and even did some plant watering completely barefoot. It was quite an experience to see the sun covered by the moon while sitting in contact with the earth, especially the day after my high school education officially ended.

I am glad to have experienced this, even though I thought I had a splinter at one point.

Well well, it's been a long time since I started this club. But it's been pretty worthwhile so far, I think.

For one, I've been making efforts to wear shoes and socks less and less often; I basically only have moccasins now for cold weather and sandals for hot weather (though I'm thinking about trying not to wear them much as well). I will admit, it still feels awkward going barefoot sometimes, but I have done it at college... frequently. Though I'd probably be more likely to do it more often if my mom weren't going with me, but oh well. :P

I've also made a few acquaintances in the barefooting community, and they've actually been a lot more dedicated to it than I am. Despite this, I can still handle gravel very well (snow, meanwhile, I'm gonna have to get used to again). I genuinely hope sometime I'll be able to get to a point where I won't even need shoes or socks outside of, say, work. I understand not many people are as dedicated as I am, but I guess it's just fun.

So goals for next year, I guess:

  • Try going barefoot more in public
  • Find some mud or something (it looks fun!)
  • Do a long-distance walk sometime
  • Go pretty much 24/7 at a dorm or something

Yeah, this seems like a good list. I hope it all works out. :3
