I've been working on an outline for an Urban Fantasy AU for The Elder Scrolls where Tamriel is a setting with more modern technology on par with that of The '90s and the Turn of the Millennium but magic is still present (albeit in a reduced form)
Never cared for the cliche of magic and technology being in total opposition to each other and one precluding the existence of the other.
One thing I like from The Elder Scrolls is how each one of the playable races in the games are a Fantasy Counterpart Culture that directly corresponds to a historical culture like the Imperials with Ancient Rome, the Nords with the Norse, Bretons with medieval England, etc.
I intend to do the same with modern nations in this AU as well where the Empire of Tamriel is more of a coalition like NATO or the EU with Cyrodiil being an expy of the United States and the cities in Oblivion being based on the look and feel of major American cities.
To be specific, these Cyrodiilic cities correspond to the following American cities.
Imperial City: Washington DC
Kvatch: New York City
Chorrol: Boston
Anvil: Los Angeles
Bruma: Chicago
Cheydinhal: New Orleans
Bravil: Memphis
Leyawiin: Seattle
Skingrad: Philadelphia
