"Ghoul School" RPG

Daniel's grin widens as he bolts toward the center of the mock city. His hands flicker and spark momentarily before a seafoam-green, translucent baseball bat appears in his fingers. He didn't have a blunt weapon on him, so he had to use an energy construct.

Whenever he saw an important-looking corridor, he would drop a few caltrops or a small bomb, and he made sure to make small marks with his bat, letting the energy burn into the occasional rock or wall so his teammates knew where he was going,

Lark simply put his cloak on and started to run to the citizen.

“Ok. Ok. Everything’s gonna be all right....”

Precious Leblanc

"We need a plan. Perhaps we should each focus on one of our opponents. I expect Daniel will be looking for me, so even though I will not be trying to engage him I may be able to hold his attention. However, Lark is our biggest threat, risk to myself aside. Does anyone have an idea as to how we can make him visible?"

Her biggest issue, really, was that she was unclear on the actual capabilities of her teammates. Without knowing that, they couldn't effectively target the weaknesses of their opponents.

JEB turns to the other students as the timer starts. "Now, class, one of the most important elements of combat is the element of...SURPRISE!" he pauses, waiting for a reaction, then shrugs. He points at Kent. "You, new kid! Head in there and tag one of Precious's team. You're now on team villager."

Kent was sitting in the rafters, very excited to be here in this place...whatever it was. He was very excited to be here nonetheless! He felt like he could really fit in at a place like this like he never could in the outside world. It was his first day so all he had to do was not stand out and hopefully make some friends without any confli-

"You, new kid! Head in there and tag one of Precious's team. You're now on team villager."

Oh. Good.

Kent stood up reluctantly. "Sure thing, coach..." He took the jog of shame over towards his newly assigned team. He was nervous but also thrilled to have the opportunity to work with someone else. Walking over to Precious he crouched down a bit to be at eyelevel.

"Hello all, the name's Kent! A pleasure to meet you all. I hope we succeed at...victimizing the training dummy. Hm. Well, I really hope I can be of use!"

Basil stood still, thinking of how to salvage this situation. "I do think that we require some form of strategy, you hiding may not be the most optimal option, for then the vagrant might be better able to assault your person.Ophelia you are a magician correct? Then you may be of use to us erecting magical barriers for strategic cover, I do not think any of us posses the requisite knowledge in order to devise trap so direct engagement is preferable. One of this teams stronger members ought to guard the pit along with Ophelia, whilst the other circles the perimeter and gradually eliminates the others. Precious I agree we may be able to use you to lure the vagrant into some form of trap, the spare member of our team can tail you to ambush him. It is unlikely Lark will be of great threat so long as we have somebody watching the base at all times, though he may make off with the flag in the midst of a skirmish."

Ophelia

Ophelia nods at Basil's suggestion.

"Yes, I am indeed a magician. And, about the magical barrier, I'll assume it's fair game until further notice. Until then, I'll try to make one."

As she said, she attempts to create one using her magic powers.

There is a beeping noise coming from Coach JEB's pocket. He takes out what looks like a GPS device from his pocket and looks at the screen.

"Ah, yes... for those of you who don't have the ability to see or detect magic, it looks like someone has created a level three magical force field around the area with the civilian. While someone can push through the field or overpower it, given enough effort and time, this is a useful delaying tactic as well as making sure the caster knows if her or his field is breached."

This put a pause on Daniel's plans, but he eventually decided he'd just overpower the barrier. He approached it, throwing explosives around the perimeter, but leaving a larger space in one area.

He approached the blank space, running towards it. He shoots a few shots, then fires at one of the bombs and lunges, his knife approaching the barrier and crashing into it. He hoped it was enough to break it, cus afterward, he'd only have two or so bombs left, and he really didn't wanna break his knife.

Meanwhile, Lark is up to the place of the barrier, invisibly, of course, and he kicks it in anger.

Daniel's bomb manages to open a small gap in the shield, large enough for Daniel to push his way through but everyone on the defending team can clearly hear the explosion from the bomb.

Lark manages a moral victory by kicking the shield, producing a brief shimmer of light but no damage to either the shield or to his foot.

Daniel shimmies through the hole in the barrier, prepared for people to approach him, blade in hand just in case, and projecting another baseball bat, which would definitely burn like hell, but not quite cut.

"Come on, guys, come at me!" He cackled loudly. "I'm right fuckin' here!" He runs forward, seeking out Precious in particular but happy to beat anyone to a pulp who may pop up.

Seeing Daniel approaching, Basil decided to take action, "Ophelia, project a wall entirely surrounding the miscreant's person, denying as much mobility to his arms and legs as is possible. Then you may open a small aperture sufficient in width only for the passage of a single arm through which one of us may strike him until he is insensate."

Daniel, seeing that Basil is pretty much calling the shots, speeds up, heading straight for him. He figures the barrier girl is probably pretty tuckered out from already having made such a huge barrier, so he goes all out, lunging forward with his bowie knife and faking Basil out, then swinging as hard as he can with his baseball bat.

"Heeere's Danny!"

This individual seemed to be greatly enjoying himself. Basil had been expecting John to partake in the assault but as of yet could not see any signs of activity. Noticing Daniel's bat coming towards him, Basil shifted into octopus form, falling to the ground due to significantly decreased height before shifting back into his half-human form in an attempt to dodge.

"Shit!" He grimaced at missing, then folds his hands together and brings them down on Basil's back in an attempt to damage it, which would probably be rather easy considering the heavy rings lining his fingers. He repeats this process several times, then takes another swing with the bat, going for his head. Just cus he can't make 'em bleed doesn't mean they can't get concussed.

Kent was initially stunned by the events going on. There was a lot of flash and excitement and he barely had time to process it all. He could see one of his teammates was in danger and decided to make the decision to assist there. Kent rushes over to Basil and the seemingly crazed individual swinging at him as he attempts to reach his hand out to either catch the bat or at the very least take the brunt of the damage with his arm.

Daniel's fists manage to hit Basil's back, but the bat grinds to a halt against Kent's arm, hissing and steaming. It was burning marks into his arm, but Daniel just kept right on pressing, looking Kent in the eyes and grinning as he did it. He seemed to be trying to see how long it would take Kent to pull away, sort of a test of dexterity and resolve. "C'mon... You know it hurts, y'know you wanna stop it..."

Ophelia

"O..on it!" Ophelia makes yet another attempt to make a magical barrier surrounding Daniel.

"..darn it, what if that doesn't work?" She thought to herself. "...I hope this back-up plan work."

Lark just tries to get up to the citizen, but not to lose his cloak.

Kent looked up from his hands towards Daniel. He could see him grinning like he was enjoying this. He couldn't help but frown as he responded to him. "If you say so." It really didn't, Kent's maker made sure of that. In response, he attempted to begin resisting Daniel to push him towards the barrier.

Daniel's ring-bedecked fist smashes down on Basil's head in a super-effective hit. While a fist won't do as much damage as a weapon, the fist leaves Basil bloodied and disorientated. His bat follow up winds up hitting Kent instead of Basil, resulting in the bat swing not doing as much damage as Daniel might have hopes.

Kent shoves Daniel back a few feet and a second, weaker barrier springs up around Daniel. (Only one success so it's a weak barrier, two successes to break the barrier or one success required in an effort roll to escape the barrier, if trying to break the barrier any successes rolled past the first success will count as 10% damage to Ophelia)

Lark presses his hands against the first barrier and pushes, trying to force his way through. He doesn't succeed but will get an addition dice bonus on his next attempt through the barrier unless Ophelia strengthens the first barrier.

Lark’s main focus was on the citizen. He wanted to win for his team and save it.

But then he looked over at Basil. Poor, poor, Basil. His head looked kicked in, and he definitely needed a trip to the nurses office...maybe even the hospital.

Who cares about some dummy when someone alive actually needs help? What hero are you to put a dummy’s life above a person’s?

And that’s when he stopped.

He threw the invisible cloak off, and started to run towards Basil to help him, and to get him to the nurse. He’d have to try and go through the barrier, but it wasn’t of menace that he wanted to break it. Who cares about the dummy anymore?

Lark manages to push through the barrier, invisibility cloak in hand, and hurries toward the lightly concussed member of the opposing team.

John's robot marches forward and joins John.

JEB's voice can be heard over the PA system: "OK, both sides now have four members, counting the droid."
