It is mentioned that since Quirks are functions of the body, they grow as the users body grows.
So it might just be both.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Well Rei did say that the whole family will defeat Dabi together, guess thats happening now.
The whole thing with Geten feels like Horikoshi quickly throwing in an idea he had before the end even if it dosent actually add anithing at this point.
Dabi having Ice makes sense on a thematic level at least. Endeavor was so convinced that he was a "failure" and now we see that Dabi was already the child Endeavor wanted to begin with.
Only way this could get even more ironic is if Fuyumi and Natsuo have the same potential.
Just to rub it in Enji's face how pointless all of this was.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. Natsuo and Fuyumi saw how they would be trained if discovered, so they made a long game plan to hide their world-ending powers and instead planned to change take over the world as an office worker and a primary school teacher
Natsuo is a medical student
Heart of StoneI mean...
Dabi had to die thrice to unlock said potential. I think Endeavour would be more awful if he did end up unlocking it.
Secret SignatureThis whole family is a mess of issues on it's own, now we gotta throw in the Himura's into the clusterfuck. At this point it's no longer "Keeping Up with the Todoroki's", it's "A Lesson in What Not To Do with Eugenics"!
And the moral of the story is, don't practice inbreeding. It may give you stronger powers, but it will turn you into a ticking time bomb of emotional issues and a literal bomb of power ready to detonate after you walk around for a bit as a hate fueled zombie.
an explanation why rei went along with the eugenics plan: she was just happy not to be shacked up with a cousin
Heart of StoneThing marrying Endeavor isn't much better.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Or rather: "A Lesson for why You should never do Eugenics in General."
Her children don't have chins that are two feet long, so I'd call that a win

Heart of StoneTo be fair, Enji wasn't always an abusive piece of shit. He and Rei did genuinely fall in love, and Enji was willing to abandon his eugenics plan after Toya was born originally... it's just Toya's Himura genes kicked in and made him weak to fire, and Enji decided to do the dumbest move to try and convince Toya to stop hurting himself, having a replacement child, and at that point he became an abusive piece of shit by succumbing to his own psychosis...
Had Toya not inherited Enji's obsessiveness or the Himura's genes didn't fuck over his body, Enji would likely have been content with Toya being a hero, rather than specifically his replacement, and he, Rei, Toya, and Fuyumi would have been a nuclear family.
Instead though, the entire family was a ticking time bomb of inbred genes, obsessive personalities, and boneheaded decision making.
Side note, but this also puts Rei calling her mom before scalding Shoto in a sadder light, since the Himura's did sell her off, not even for the money but for Enji's genes, meaning her calling her mother in a cry for help likely wouldn't have done anything for Rei. Her mom could have just said "It's your duty as a Himura to bear his offspring, and nothing more. Just be glad you're useful for something." and that would have just as easily sent Rei into a psychotic break.
Say what you will about how toxic Enji and Rei's relationship was, Enji at least loves her and regrets what he did. If Geten is to be believed though, her parents more than likely only saw her as a Breeding Slave. Vegeta: I'm back bitches!
Her eldest child is literally burning alive while he has mentally regressed to a child.
This family is a fucking nightmare, I swear to god.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. This actually reminds me of a question I had. If a person or animal who came from several generations of inbreeding were to escape and have kids with someone else, how many generations would it take to undo the genetic damage or remove the various health issues?
Didn't spoilers say that Rei was from the main branch and one of the last purebreds?
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. There is no "genetic damage" due to inbreeding:
- Chromosomes come in pairs. Each member of a pair carries the same genes, so everybody has 2 of every gene.
- Genes have variants, called alleles.
- Due to that, people (well, the vast majority of life with sexual reproduction) may carry either 2 copies of a single allele, or 1 copy of 2 different alleles.
- Alleles are not equal. Some are recesive, and require the 2 copies to manifest in the phenotype of an individual (that's it, on their body and physiology), while others are dominant and with a single copy they are visible in the phenotype.
- Some recesive alleles may have quite damaging effects, but, due to being recessive and infrequent, they are passed down anyway.
- Close relatives are likely to have the same alleles as you do.
- Gametes are made by taking half of your entire DNA, with no repeated genes, but with some scrambling between the 2 chromosomes.
It takes a single generation of outbreeding to see something with accumulated recessive traits to lose them (even if carrying them).
...
I mean this is High School genetics and Mendel's laws. Inbreeding is not something beyond that, it doesn't cause health issues or mental issues by default, it just makes them surface if the original stock carried the potential for them.
Geten says the final nail in the coffin for the Himura clan was when the main family began selling itself off, and since Rei was "sold off" to Endevour, you can assume she is from the main family.
Also, I have to point out a couple things about the last part of the chapter: for one, Rei not only had to come out from underground close to where Dabi and Endevour were, the fire users were propelling themselves through the air, so she must have caught up with them in the sky, which I want to see how she did. Now imagine that, to add even more tragedy to Rei's story, she had an ice quirk strong enough to be a top hero (Frozonette), but her parents repressed her and only saw her as a bargaining chip, so she never realized her potential until now.
Second, she is burning from half of her face in the last panel, so it seems facial injuries are going to be a common trend in the Todoroki household (Natsu and Fuyumi worried in the corner while trying to protect their faces ).
Yeah, how is Rei here? Is the next chapter gonna be from her perspective?
Did someone teleport her there? "Hey Kurogiri just felt like dropping Rei next to her dying son. Or maybe AFO was feeling quirky before mauling All Might" -Horikoshi, maybe

Uni catIt doesn't look like they took off that far away, but I'm not sure if Rei is on the ground or flying up to meet them.
It is a little exciting, even though we know that she's only here to stall and not stop Touya (that's going to be Shouto and Tenya's jobs once they reach the place); that bit about "hysterical strength" meanwhile reminds me of a fancomic of Inko catching several knives in the air after baby Izuku accidentally tugs the table cloth off and they all fall on him. There's obviously quite bit of power disparity between that and "fly up to a thermonuclear bomb and not burn to a crisp on entry", but the principle seems the same.
And with the confirmation that "Toga's clones" are in reach of Dabi's Final Dab, that's probably going to be a big push for Toga to stand down (as proof that the rest of the League doesn't love her like Twice did, even though Dabi was always the one explicit asshole in the group), among with what Ochako and Tsuyu tell her.

grahSo, I have seen a couple of comments over the web that either Rei is going to die instead of Enji, or that both are dying to stop Dabi (becoming responsible for his actions), and...
No, that doesn't sound right for me, specially due to how emotionally damaged Shoto (and Natsu and Fuyumi) would become by losing his mom at this stage. But, what do you people think?
Well, if Horikoshi is willing to go even darker...
You can't kill art.Is everything on break today? I'm not seeing anything on Shonen Jump at all yet.
One Strip! One Strip! Its Golden Week in Japan. So yeah, the entire magazine is on break.

Technically everything already leaked.

I'll look up directions for the closest Juvenile Correction facility.
