I'm sorry but what is the point of this trope? That bisexuals may have a type just like everyone else? I tried to make the description as fair as possible, but the examples uncomfortably imply that a bisexual character isn't "bi enough" unless they're in bed with a man one week and a woman the next. Or both at once, every single time they have sex, like they have a quota to meet. Plus, it seems that entering a monogamous relationship automatically places a bi character under this trope, as if bisexuality and monogamy are inherently incompatible. Bisexuals have been fighting against that stigma for decades.

And then there's the claim that this trope is about a bi person's onscreen partners matching the show's target audience. But...it kinda works that way in real life. If a bisexual has a preference for the same gender (because they can be more attracted to one than the other), there's a very good chance most of their partners are going to be gay.

Whereas But Not Too Gay refers to the double-standard of same-sex couples not being nearly as expressive as straight ones, this trope seems to be a litmus test of whether or not a character "qualifies" as bisexual, which is invalidating as hell and only serves to spread misconceptions about bisexuality.

Sorry, ~Desert Dragon, but without evidence backing up your claim, the thread will be declined.
