I'm not surprised the movie doesn't have much sex-related fanservice. The series in general doesn't have much sex-related fanservice. Sure it has attractive character designs, but most of the time they aren't sexualized.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI knew the movie couldn't actually affect the plot of the series at all, but this one almost felt like a deliberate shaggy dog story.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Is a normal practice in anime franchises to make stories that would be not affecting the main thread of the anime series.
Just imagine if Goku is killed in a film and becomes canon for the series... a frustrated fan that left the movie apart because he donΒ΄t like to go to theaters will be angry for that...
Code White is not canon, but it can be without affecting anything in the main plot, as long as actually nothing hits hard in the story
One of the fandom jokes is that Yor/Twilight are portrayed in fanart as this hypersexual femme fatale/James Bond pair, when in the actual series they're both so sexually awkward that teenagers would roll their eyes at them.
Is very curious with Yor, while she has some good looks, it looks like the creator want to give us some good looks... on her back.
Being sincere, these clothes she uses in good weather allow us to see her low back... and like Justin says... "sheΒ΄s bringing sexy back.. yeah!!" (a good song to learn about part of songs btw)
Henderson backstory was not what I expected
Expect the unexpected.
It's shaping up to be a Henderson mini-arc.
Oh hey, Henderson's backstory!
Seems like there have been several full-scale wars between Ostania and Westalis, going back to before even his generation were kids.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Was it ever indicated that Henderson and Martha knew each other prior to this chapter and the last one where they danced?
Not that I can think of. Then again, they've never really interacted before now, and there was no reason to bring it up in casual conversation.
It was first hinted at when they crossed paths during the Red Circus kidnapping. They call each other by their first names.
This is one of the things that well-written long form manga can do especially well. I know some folks have dropped Spy X Family because it isn't advancing the "actual plot." But all the "faffing about" chapters have allowed our view of Henderson to evolve from a one-note gag character ("Elegant!") to someone we care about as a teacher who is trying to help both Anya and Damian overcome their difficulties, and want good things for. We can spend a couple of chapters on his and Martha's doomed love story because they've become people who matter, and it's not just a distraction from "the plot."
I wonder if we'll get another cameo by the Scary Shiny Glasses guy that's in all the flashbacks. Obviously later on, since Henderson is much older than him.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."I guess in their world, Germany split at the end of World War I instead of World War II. They clearly kept some of the real-world history, given that they alluded to Kaiser Wilhelm and Queen Victoria.
Wait, huh? Ostania/Westalis is supposed to be literally real-life Germany? I just thought it was an entirely fictional society based on it.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Mini arcs like this help highlight just how much damage the constant warfare has inflicted.
Disgusted, but not surprisedPeople everywhere have been pointing out how hard Henderson/Martha has been paralleling both Loid/Yor and Damian/Anya, but I think I'll summarize for the sake of the thread.
The chaotic girl falls for the dutiful boy without being able to realize her feelings due to naivete, while he is so repressed and/or tsundere that he can't acknowledge his own either. While she is way more willing to throw hands with her almost supernatural levels of talent, and he is trying for peace no matter what with his own more basic (but still above everyone else) skills, they are nonetheless torn apart by the East/West conflict, and she only recognizes love for love when they've been separated for good. It's only in peacetime that they are able to reconnect and spark their bond.
So there's been a lot of speculation that this is foreshadowing Yor and Loid being (hopefully temporarily) separated when the truth comes to light, but that their efforts will break the cycle and give Anya and Damian the chance to have the happy life they never could.

Extremely funny cliffhanger to suggest a Student/Teacher Romance where both sides are similar-aged adults, but the student is still in high school instead of college because in this education system high school lasts one year longer than in real life America or Japan.
This makes three chapters in a row that avoided showing Anya or Damian after the ball. I don't know if this is getting other plots out of the way before it becomes a story arc, buying Endo time to better work out how they'll act now, or just tangling a plot thread for its own sake.
Interesting to note that Henderson is shown writing to his daughter and son in law in the 4th extra mission, so he probably did get married later in life.◊ (Link is to said page, you gotta flip the image to really see it though.)
Secret SignatureSeems like we'll see an actual arc about Henry and Martha. Interesting. I wonder how long it will be.
I predict when wartime happens Martha ends up killing someone with her ballet skills, traumatizing her
It's amazing that people ALSO managed to catch young Mc Mahon and Donna Schlag in Henderson's graduation frames.
I did the math based on the truck and biplanes in the chapter and it's most likely 1918 in that last page which makes it roughly 1964 in the current story.
Edit: I was off by a year. Trucks left assembly in 1917 so it's 63 to 64 currently.

Saw the movie today! Pretty fun, wonder if some details will be relevant to the manga. Namely... one of Ostania's allies is manufacturing war zeppelins and GIANT UMBRELLA TYRANT SUPERSOLDIERS to invade another country, which would restart the war. That seems, uhh, pretty major.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."
I think the fun part of Spy X Family (both anime and movie) is that is the adventures of a built family where there are not really solid links. You see Anya, her lots of faces and the toilet humor (ok, it was too much, but, the dream sequence was completely nuts, I canΒ΄t stop laughing!), Loid complete focus on the mission or Yor complete ingenuity (still trying to understand how a woman can still think that her husband is a psychiatrist, and still he climbs and old plane to purse the bad guys... withoout asking anything)...
I loved the film, it has all you need to be introduced in the Ostania universe without watching an episode and, for veterans of the anime, is a complete new mission to explore.
Looking forward for the next episodes... I really loved this anime!
