Am I the only one who felt that part of Darth Plagueis was kind of narmy? It feels like a bit too over the top to show how evil Sheev is

With how real life bored rich kids act, Palpatine isn't really unbelievable.

He's a sociopath that just wants power and was spoiled by dad's money.

IIRC the exact moment that convinced him that the rich and powerful are above the law and basic decency was something like he committed a drunken hit and run on a sweet old couple and his dad got the charges dropped by paying the local authorities an enormous bribe to save the family name.

Close, it was an incident where his dad bought him a top of the line speeder as a sort of bribe to keep Sheev from misbehaving, and while the two were taking it out for a spin, Sheev made a reckless turn and killed some civilians by accident. Sheev's first thought after this happened was that he would like to be a professional speeder one day.

Of course, dad paid the authorities to keep this all hush hush.

But seriously people like this exist and the only unrealistic part of Palpatine is that he has evil space magic. Like there's an incident at Stanford to remind you that rich kids will use their connections to do evil and get away with it.

I think Sheev killing his family is the equivalent of said spoiled rich kid getting fed up with their dad and going all ak-47 on their family.

The logical limit of poor impulse control.

I kind of feel like Naboo in general is basically the “that-can’t-happen-here” fallacy multiplied by an entire planet. They’re so innocent that they elect young children to high office! They’re so pacifistic that their highest military rank is Captain!

… and they really don’t want you to know that they have racism, like everywhere else. And crooked rich pricks, like everywhere else. And Force Satan is walking among them…

In canon the people of Naboo consider Palpatine their greatest shame. The bitter irony of the worst tyrant the Galaxy has known since...probably forever coming from a world that values democracy as much as they do is not lost on them.

With even more irony, the house of Palpatine at least in the old EU was the house that lead the charge to stop a great evil in the distant past of Naboo.

I do find it amusing that had Darth Plagieus not found Sheev, Palpatine would have been an asshole top racer with no class or style. And with multiple arrest warrants and parking violations.

Then Plagieus arrived, and molded that dare-devil into a literal professional devil who pretends to have manners and nicety. Thanks Plagieus,

I do find it kinda funny that he seems to have completely lost his passion for racing after becoming a Sith though.

Palpatine does claim he wanted to join the Sith before Plagueis found him. Book of the Sith does state he bought all sorts of artifacts like Sith holocrons and texts with Dad’s money before the events of the novel.

Back on the "why doesn't Palpatine fuck" train, I wonder if part of this isn't because they find it squick that Palpatine can have a granddaughter the normal, but instead a case of No Love for the Wicked

On another note, I suspect the real reason why the idea of the Endor Holocaust was a thing in the fanbase originally wasn't really about what would probably happen to the Death Star wreckage and more just people hating on the Ewoks

IIRC the Ewok Genocide thing came from an old website run by a Star Wars fan who was an actual scientist and wrote articles on how Star Wars technology would function in the real world. The Death Star debris raining down in Endor and killing the Ewoks was one of the conclusions he reached from his analysis.

I figured it was the fact that he looks like a living corpse and so that makes people imagine what the sex looks like.

What'd the person say about noise in space, by the way?

I always loved the Legends explanation, which was there ISN'T noise in space, but all the ships have little speakers in them that generate fake noise to help the pilots maintain spatial awareness in the vacuum.

I'm just picturing JJ having to think about that as he decides whether or not to keep the Rey Palpatine twist or not.

One thing I love about both continuities is that they don't try to give him a Freudian excuse, but show us that he was already a bad person, even before he was a Sith.

Sidious is an affluenza case gone as bad as one can go. I agree he doesn’t need more than that.

Supposedly, one of the ideas of the Star Wars underworld tv show that Lucas was trying to make had a script revealing Palpatine had his heart broken by a treacherous woman.

Yeah, that's dumb.
