A sentence I never thought I would hear about a live action DC movie but it's the exact kind if silly I want in comic book movies if done well.
The memes of Aquaman happily riding a seahorse to glory while the rest of the DC film universe crashes and burns are going to be glorious.

That the 2018 film felt it had an epic weight you take seriously while being light-hearted and not totally ridiculous is something this one should definitely strive for too.
A good test would be "how much higher was Shazam!'s performance compared to the one for Fury of the Gods?".

Seems like it. Be interesting to see what comes next, Gunn picking and choosing what stays rather than just starting all over is—not a good idea.

Honestly there’s not much to pick and choose here as it’s most likely only a couple actors might make a return.
Calling it a problem is over exaggerating it a potential concern.
The announced projects relaunch confirmed are largely original works, Authority, Booster Gold, Lanterns, and Superman is confirmed to bringing in brand new heroes not seen before. Everything in the pipeline is pretty much all brand new stuff.

Speaking of which, do you think we should come up with an official title for the next slate of movies? I'm leaning towards "The New DCEU" but I get the feeling there's a catchier name out there.

Gunn has all the stuff he set up though in previous movies and Peacekeeper—which I still gotta watch, all his characters/actors he brought in that he wants to hold onto though. That's what I mean. That's probably not good if he does.

eta: though to be fair with Gunn directly in charge and much fewer creative teams in play, it might not the mess that say the New52 was for example.

Yeah uh when dc do this it also traps them in a constant cycle of reboots and retcons and revisions to try and fix this. So uh not good.

The DCEU has so much smaller a quantity of material and so many fewer cross-connections compared to the comics, I think importing a few characters as basically the same and handwaving a few specifics is a far smaller logical issue.
Whether it works against selling audiences on this being a fresh start is probably the rather more important issue.
Plus, the ones confirmed to be carrying over include Harley Quinn, Waller, and Peacemaker, three character who basically already live in their own mental realities anyway.

The Suicide Squad characters have the advantage of being pretty disconnected from the rest of the heroes
Hell despite Bloodsport being a Superman villain we aren't shown him shooting Superman with the infamous Kryptonite bullet

Also its possible that the actors will be playing the same roles/characters but the history MIGHT change. Example; If they get Gal back for WW she won't have the same back story as shown...AKA we might FINALLY get rid of the 'Child of Zeus' origin.
So while Peacemaker/Waller ect will carry over things may be fudged/re-written/handwaved to fit in the new verse.

What's the over/under on Black Manta killing the baby?
Yikes. HOPE they don't go there since Manta's presented in the previous film as extremely relatable. Could see him targeting Thomas specifically though because that way it's "your father for mine".
This looks like it's firing off on all cylinders and it's gonna break the mold with the DC films of this year—though at least Blue Beetle, which I say is being slept on now that I've seen it and thought it was really good, isn't totally being embarrassed right now. It's promising a lot and hopefully it delivers. Not hard to be optimistic here.
Not sure what else to say, but yeah. The short window is gonna definitely help with the hype building right now too.
