  • Name: Zero/Shinju
  • Work of Origin: Katana Zero
  • Age: 22 physically, mentally much older due to Chronos abuse
  • Appearance: "I won't let anyone hurt you."
  • Personality: Zero is a semi-erratic young man with a very fragile sense of self due to a combination of being hooked on a super soldier drug since childhood as well as a debilitating brain injury that gave him amnesia for the most part though every now and then flashes of his past self with clash with his current persona to make him even more crazy. Though softly spoken for the most part, he sometimes enters highly aggressive periods where his hallucinations cause too much stress to repress himself. That said he has a bottom line he won't ever cross and that would be to not harm children no matter how bloodthirsty he can get elsewhere.
  • Backstory: Zero is part of a secret supersoldier experiment of highly dubious and illegal nature, one intent on creating pure combat machines to handle missions that the regular forces could not or would not handle. Trained from childhood in a remote facility that has a 10% survival rate on average to actually graduate, Gamma NULL Zero regular received injections of the highly addictive drug 'Chronos' that acted as both a leash for dependency and belligerence escalating stimulus that made him such a feared soldier on the battlefield.
    • Having served in the Vietnam War for a good while, the NULL program that Zero participated in would eventually be scrapped when atrocities that the soldiers committed would come to light and make the general American public find such acts distasteful, resulting in there being a pulling of the plug and retreating of the troops which then tied into the general history of America losing said war on paper.
    • Zero and a few others of the program would then later on be put into cryogenic stasis as the last three surviving samples of the NULL affiliated Chronos users before getting sprung a few weeks before the modern day happened whereupon they'd head their separate ways to search for vengeance or just to simply preserve their own lives for as long as possible while attempting to find a way to wean themselves off of Chronos without the dangers of withdrawal symptoms setting in. Currently he's mistaken as a serial killer named The Dragon even though he's a completely different serial killer named Fifteen that trains in the same sword style and targets those connected to shady experimental drug dealers/super soldier programs.
  • Secret Identity: The Dragon/The Sword Using Bathrobe Guy/Pinkachu/Shinjuku Samurai
  • Cover: Hardcore Cosplayer
  • Skills: Zero is a master swordsman, with his particular style particularly derived from the Shinkage-Ryu School and especially iaido being the main focus. Such is his swordsmanship that he can cut through the gaps of SWAT or riot police armor to bisect the wearers in half without damaging his sword, though he can't cut through their ballistic shields. He's also very good at stealth due to being good enough to sneak around in shadowy areas dressed as he is without tripping alarm from people that can't see in the dark and has an amazing sense of balance to effortlessly perform parkour even on surface areas as thin as a clothesline.
    • His throwing arm is also worthy of note, being able to accurately pick up anything below twenty pounds to throw it in a straight line with enough force to embed itself into the human skeleton under the range of a hundred feet with examples ranging from bottles to handguns. Also he can hijack and pilot motorcyles good enough to do movie tiered freeway chase sequences.
    • Zero used to have experience being special forces, especially in the tropical environments. He can aim and use firearms well enough as well as most other military tech so long as it correlates to the general time period of the Vietnam War but generally he finds it distasteful to use guns in general nowadays due to his new personality loathing his old one.
  • Powers: Zero is at at the very human peak of physical capabilities, honed through various years of active combat and hard training alone and generally being good enough to iaido reflect a single bullet fired him at a time back to sender if he concentrates enough and knows that someone is aiming a gun at him.
    • Atop of that, he utilizes a highly addictive drug called Chronos that heightens his reaction speed to the point where he can experience time in slow motion from his point of view to see machine gun bullets fly as fast as Major League baseball pitches (so still fast and possible to get tagged by such if he's too cocky). This ability can only really be used once per combat encounter though since it is extremely mentally taxing. If he goes for more than a single day without Chronos he'll experience (more) intense hallucinations and quickly lose his grip on reality.
  • Equipment: A ronin themed outfit and a mundane katana of actual quality fit for a samurai to own. Zero also tends to play background music during his missions through ear buds connected to an MP 3 player.
  • Holdings: They live in a single roomed run down slum apartment located in the Ironhouse District with the place looking like a messy bachelor's pad from the eighties stuffed with weeb stuff like samurai armor and a bisento mounted to the wall. A little girl named Elizabeth is under his care that he is intensely protective towards as well as a well hidden crate of Chronos syringes stolen from the US government.
  • Notoriety: 4

As you can see, there are significant spoilers for the source material in this signup, so if you don't want spoilers, don't read. I don't expect to reveal any of the spoilered stuff in-character until a loooooong time from now, anyway, except for one bit.

  • Name: Shirou Ogami (大神 士郎) AKA Silver Wolf/Ginrou

  • Work of Origin: BNA: Brand New Animal

  • Age: Mid to late 20s but actually >1000 years old

  • Appearance: (Normal Form) (Beast Form)

  • Personality: Shirou is a blunt and quiet but intensely passionate man whose eyes reflect an age-old weariness. Though he will stop at nothing to protect innocent beastpeople and "mutants", he sees humans as inherently two-faced, untrustworthy oppressors of his people, and only works with them for the sake of making the city a better place for his own kind to live in. That said, he is certainly not against wreaking heavy violence upon beastpeople who hurt their own kind. He has a tendency to bend or break rules for people he is fond of, and cares less for the law than for his principles. Though he is very set in his ways, a sufficiently driven beastperson or "mutant" may convince him to adjust his viewpoint. Eventually. In his spare time, he enjoys reading.

  • Backstory (major spoilers for Brand New Animal): 1000 years ago in Eastern Europe, the beastpeople-only town of Nirvasyl was prosperous and peaceful, even maintaining peaceful relations and trade with human civilizations of the time. "Shirou Ogami" lived there as an ordinary wolf beastman. Then, one day, without any warning, an army of humans attacked, slaughtering all the residents. "Shirou" was struck down like all the others, their corpses thrown in a mass grave to rot. While he was decomposing, however, something strange happened: the souls of all 2000 of his beastpeople bretheren surged into his body, and in a flash of light and nova of blood, he was reborn as a gigantic silver-blue wolf and rendered ageless and immortal. Going on the hunt for the human general who had commanded the forces attacking Nirvasyl, he slew countless human soldiers in his search, but never found the one he was looking for. Finally feeling the utter hollowness left by revenge, he reformed himself into a globe-wandering protector of all beastpeople and of those who would later come to be known as "mutants". Over time, his deeds across the world passed into legend, and "Silver Wolf", or "Ginrou" as he was called in the East, began to be worshiped by ordinary beastpeople as a guardian deity.

At the tail end of World War II, he liberated a concentration camp full of beastpeople, who were being experimented on for the purpose of creating superhumans. After slaughtering the all-human staff for their heinous crimes, he adopted a once-normal crow which the Nazis had taken apart and reconstructed.

After wandering the Earth some more, he eventually moved to Emerald City and settled in Fremont, with its diverse population of immigrants, including the city's largest concentration of beastpeople. There he works as a private investigator, fighting back against the crime plaguing the city in his own way. He charges quite a lot for his services, but the police hire him anyway, because his nose is just that useful. Rumor has it that he has a special, dirt-cheap rate for beastpeople and "mutants", though he won't confirm this when there are any humans nearby.

  • Secret Identity: None

  • Skills: Fluent in an extremely wide variety of languages. Skilled at stealth, memorization, and in general skills associated with Private Investigators. Good at street brawling, particularly hand-to-hand.

  • Powers: Like all beastpeople, he can transition to and from a beast form at will. His nose is particularly keen even for a wolf beastman, and by closing his eyes and concentrating, he can use a sort of smell-o-vision to recreate a startlingly accurate mental picture of what happened at a scene, including the shape, movement, and actions of individuals and objects. He can also use his nose to pick up on things such as what sort of people an individual has closely associated with. However, his sense of smell can be foiled by thorough application of chemical cleaners to the scene, and he cannot track movement through the sky, as the scent dissipates too fast during the latter. Even for a beastman, he is well above average in strength and speed, able to stop the charge of a rhino, lift it, and break its horn off with his bare hands with minimal difficulty, and able to move as fast as a cheetah. His teeth and claws are as sharp as those of an ordinary wolf. Thanks to an incredible willpower, he can continue moving even when grievously injured.
    • As a consequence of absorbing the souls of 2000 other beastpeople, he is ageless and regenerates from any injury with astonishing speed, recovering from being riddled with bullets in a matter of minutes, although very large wounds such as having a huge hole blown through his chest require something more on the order of an hour to mend properly. However, complete destruction of his brain will kill him permanently.
    • He can also transform into a giant glowing wolf-thing that stands at twelve feet tall when on all fours. This is the form known to beastpeople as Silver Wolf, or Ginrou. In this form, he is able to fire off a beam of destructive energy about three feet in diameter, capable of vaporizing regular concrete. He can fire off said beam while in the midst of transforming into this form. He can accelerate much faster and his edges are much sharper in this form, to the point that he can turn his fluff into blades and cut through rock-hard material in what seems to be a couple seconds. If significantly injured (beyond, say, papercuts or stubbing his toe), he can only stay in this form for a short while before reverting to his beastman form.
    • Like all beastpeople, if exposed to a large number of different species and then experiencing truly extreme fear, anger, or despair, he will go berserk. The only way to permanently calm the berserk state is through the blood of a "mutant" or serum thereof, whether ingested or injected. The berserk state can also be temporarily calmed by the sound of Shirou's howl.

  • Equipment: Standard Private Eye equipment (cameras, notebooks, etc.). A highly intelligent, unusually long-lived crow named Kuro.

  • Holdings: A cozy townhouse that he shares with an old beastpeople couple, and his surprisingly spacious Private Investigator office/library in Fremont, the latter directly above the former.

  • Notoriety: His private investigator persona is a 1 to everyday humans, but a 8 to cops, beastpeople, and mutants. To cops, he is one of their most reliable non-hero crime-solving partners, and to beastpeople and mutants, he's widely known as that guy you go to when you need things or people tracked or found (or rescued) for a surprisingly cheap fee.
