I'm not sure if Fodlan is that vulnerable to external invasion from the east. They've got excellent defenses, hellishly bad terrain (mountain ranges dividing up whole chunks of the place), you get extended supply lines unless you take a port, and the local population is hostile as hell to outsiders on a good day. Any war is going to be costly, and its not a foregone conclusion.

Dagda tried from the other end, while having Brigid as a stepping stone (great for logistics) and still lost to the Empire, who were standing alone and still had to deal with their internal corruption and division on top of that.

Fodlan is a tough nut to crack, even before you account for the Knights of Seiros stepping in.

[up] That sounds like an belligerent society to be Honest, I question why no one attempted to Invade Almyra, if they feared them so much?

Dadga did attack the Empire and lost Brigid because of that and the people of Svreng do pose am threat to Fearghus, but with the Lance of Ruin, it's not hard.

The Kingdom faces raids from the north, but raiding someone and running away with the loot is a mile away from launching a sustainable invasion.

As for not invading Almyra, only the Alliance is in a position to do so. And why would they? They've got their fort to hide behind, and getting the various Houses united to support and prosecute an offensive war (with all the material and human costs that come with it) that might invite moderate rebukes from the Church would be difficult at best. High risk, high difficulty, and the reward... well that isn't clear.

Almyra hasn't lead a full fledged invasion the way Fodlan knows it since the first tome they invaded.

And its not to say they arent serious in the other ones as Cyril mentions. They just arent concerned whether they win or lose because those ones are more for fun

Meanwhile Dagda has lead two full scaled invasions in the past on Adrestia, and was the nail that set Fodlan spiraling into war the first time after some 500 years of peace

And we don't know how unified Almyra is. From the sounds of it, them not being one nation and/or prone to civil wars would make a lot of sense.

Claude has a shit ton of half siblings that also hate him.

Like a ruler having multiple heirs who hate each other is bound to cause a succession crisis of some type.

Nohr only avoided it because the surviving siblings like Xander.

Successors are based on merit rather than primogeniture there as we learn Claude proving himself through his actions in Fodlan.

[up] So what Edelgard is trying to do?

But seriously, that sounds like a bloodbath in this context if we account for what the other siblings are doing.

No wonder Claude likes poison. He needs to learn how to identify it after all.

Now I do wonder what Claude would have done if Edelgard didn't start the war.

No. Its still based on the royal family, Edelgards family is all dead. She even made sure to kill her step sibling.

Thats the point merit =/= equality because merit is entirely subjective. In the endings where Claude even abdicates its still a relative who takes his place on the throne.

Merit in Almyra as far as we know is fighting good.

When he becomes leader, pursue a policy of open borders and expanded trade with Leicester's neighbours. Open up ports and border town to trade with Almyra, Morfis, Albinea, and even Sreng.

When the Millennium Festival comes round, turn up with his parents.

Claude: Your Holiness, Your Imperial Majesty, Your Royal Majesty, Your Other Majesty, I'd like to introduce my parents. My mother, Tiana, Duchess von Riegan. My father, Kemal son of Khutulun daughter of Xerxes, the Great Khan of Almyra.

[up] Think he told Byleth to pursue an open border policy, or what?

I do wonder if the Almyran king would accept a non-violent resolution.

Claude did win over Almyra by defeating, Edelgard, the Agarthans and Nemesis.

And what's your take if Edelgard was killed by Rhea in the Holy Tomb in the Black Eagles path?

Almyra is also big on being crafty. Proving you can ststt a war and still come back alive with most of your troops would be invaluable for battle junkies

[up] His name is LOERENZ HELLMAN GLOUCHESTER!!! You would do well to remember it. XD

But seriously, I think Claude was trying to calm the tensions between Almyra and Fodlan in the little ways. I'd like to imagine he was manipulating people in Almyra into thinking he was going to open up the wall for invasions, but in fact Claude was just sneaking Nadir into Fodlan, and it was actually part of his plan to ease tensions which was why he was trying to assuage Lorenz's accusations.

You know, so we can see Claude's chessmaster side.

So far, Edelgard's the real schemer among the trio.

I'm feeling meta today, so here's Dimitri and Edelgard having comic book discourse. XD.

Edelgard: So, really, Lex Luthor is the hero.

Dimitri: Yeah, to villains.

Edelgard: No, think about it. Superman is the invader. He's the anomaly. He's the thing that doesn't belong. And what's he do? He robs humanity of its drive. Why excel at anything when Superman is already, by definition, inhumanly better than you at everything? Lex Luthor is giving us back our dignity. And he does this even while he's labeled as a villain for doing it. How sick is that? The people of his society are so invested in Superman's superiority that they fight to lock up the man who dares suggest they may actually have some worth. We should all aspire to be Lex Luthor.

Legit though, after reading Snyder's Justice League run, I can totally see Edelgard choosing Doom over Justice.

It's okay, I didn't choose a DBZA sentence to be serious, you don't have to justify yourself for a joke. But if this exchange whappened in game I'd have thrown the black eagle run and wiped my save on the spot because holy shit that's some next level of missing the point of Superman as a character.

[up] No, that line is a reference to One year later, where Lex Luthor the guy who claims he can solve world hunger and create world peace if Superman wasn't in his way, spent an entire year without Superman... plotting ways to kill him.

Really says a lot.

Also yes, Lex did get cancer from Kryptonite, specifically the ring.

AM verse:

Edelgard: If it wasn't for the Church, Fodlan would have had peace and prosperity.

Dimitri: Tell that to the people you killed while you had Rhea hostage for 5 years.

Edelgard:... Touche.
