I remember the original "canon" that implied that Keen was part of the same family as Blazkowicz and Doomguy.
Obviously that can't still be true with the modern games.

Well Tom Hall and John Romero confirm it as true, Doomguy is Keen's grandson... I think. Can't remember. As for Doomguy and Doom Slayer? I believe they're one and the same. Reboot and its sequel make it deliberately vague. Eternal might shed light on Doom Slayer's past... maybe.
Okay I looked at tweets by Tom Hall and he isn't all that bummed out. Well he is but not TOO much. He's not involved (obviously) and he doesn't mind it but he's not pleased that it's a "barely related F 2 P" game and that gameplay is kinda meh. Said it doesn't feel like a Commander Keen game.
Tom Hall deserves better imo, they should've invited him to work on Commander Keen.

OG Doomguy himself might not be human as well after Episode 1 where he gets teleported in a dark room full of monsters and... dies? Only to be resurrected on Deimos. Unless he did teleport to Deimos in first place. Then it's business as usual

New game looks distinctly eesh. Love the visual style, but the gameplay looks dull. (It's also not at all like classic Keen, but that in an of itself is not inherently bad - after all, there are a ton of Mario games that aren't remotely the same as the arcade or 8-bit games, and most of them are good).
As to the lore, the Wolfenstein 3D manual states outright that BJ is Keen's grandfather. The Doom connection comes from Doom II RPG, in which Doomguy is given the name Stan Blazkowicz.

Opening up a new thread for the Commander Keen series because a revival game for smartphones has been announced.
I know that most people would prefer it on consoles, but I like how this looks. Although I will admit that I don' think that the Gameplay Trailer did as good of a job telling me what the game is about as the Announce Trailer. Still, I'm kinda interested in this.
