Tsuyoshi is being too horny on main, I can't

I feel dumb for not seeing the robot named Hildr having a Samus Is a Girl reveal

Well at least she and Chrome both survived, this resolution is pretty satisfactory

I was pretty sure she was female from the start actually…

…Well, assuming she'd even have something as superfluous as a gender identity in the first place.

unfortunately I just defaulted to male when it came to most bots

The boobs are really dumb and tbh yeah I can't take the tragic Hildr backstory seriously now

is the butt a shock absorber too

It looks shiny and soft enough to be one. Honestly, I've never really been the "keep the armor on" type person, but I vastly preferred her oversized cloak.

We already had a centaur robot with breasts so this wasn't too much of a surprise.

Disgusted, but not surprised

Chapter 18! Looks like Hildr will come along for the ride after all, at least temporarily. The information about the fifth generation Gears was already given in volume 1's bonus material, but Chrome's reaction to knowing more about himself is quite endearing. tongue

Meanwhile, Roue is connected to a weird machine… it probably won't kill her or anything, but I doubt it will do her much good either… Also, Rock picks up and puts on the rabbit ears, which are probably useless for a Gear, but who knows…

And there's NOTHING ELSE to talk about. Nope.

PS: HG is now one chapter away from outliving Black Torch. Yay? tongue

Well at least Roue doesn't spend too much time in that weird fetishy setup, Odin finally did something unambiguously good

Rock looks pretty cute with the headband on.

Chrome's smile waii Very interesting to finally get some explanation on what exactly Chrome is, odds are there's definitely a second fifth-gen model somewhere in his future.

New chapter!

I just noticed the jacket is labelled "Black Torch", which is a nice touch.

It's a very nice contrast between Hildr and Odin as command-type Gears and it's making me root harder for the former.

I'm a bit confused as to how this virtual space works and whether Roue tearing the monitor off actually did anything but what it emotionally represents is good enough.

the next chapter is going to be released on Christmas after watching Kamen Rider Build I'm afraid

Well, if Roue is the activation key for this update, she must be able to stop it in some capacity, I suppose?

At any rate, I'm curious to see Roue actually, well… do something now that she can. Maybe.

Chapter 20! A few badass splash pages and the return of Rock. Plus Roue admitting that… she really doesn't have anything to retort to Odin. Because, yeah, she knows basically nothing about the world and also knows that Gears are bound by their program, so what could she say?

On the other side, we have Chrome and Rock who are starting to develop emotions of their own. It would make sense to have Hild join them at this point.

Rock... I love him

Dick move to leave Hildr in the pit, Chrome

Ok I'm curious to see if Odin's musing on invading Heaven Land will actually pan out or if he'll be defeated before that happens.

Huh, Odin did a strategic retreat apparently, allowing Chrome and Rock to save Roue. But then something, something big, rises from the pit. The one Hildr was supposedly still in.

I like how Rock tries to be all careful and methodical while Chrome just punch his way through everything. [lol]

This is an incredibly metal cliffhanger. The simple answer to what happened to Odin seems to be he dumped himself in the giant mech, but Roue's conspicuously not shown after Rock disconnects so something's up.

Instead of resolving the cliffhanger, it seems like this interlude chapter is FORESHADOWING.

It looks like there'll be another interlude next week as well.

Chap 23 is out.

"Fight the power"… is that a motherf*cking Gurren Lagann reference? evil grin

Appropriate considering Vordan is basically piloting a giant mecha. Also, Chrome is actually pissed for the first time. And Hildr is back, yay! Which means that she will either a. join the team or b. die horribly. I'd prefer the former. Please.

This Divine Automaton Lance (what a mouthful) is giving me strong vibes of something, but I'm not sure what. Maybe Blitztank?

Chrome's arc continues chugging along well and hurray for Hildr teaming up for realsies.

I do want to see Heaven Land's reaction to Odin pulling this stunt so I'm hoping he doesn't die quite yet after this battle.

[up] Alas, it seems like he's dead for good. Yeah, I'd feel like shit too if my only mission in life ended before it could even start…

And now Hildr clarifies what she meant by "breaking free of your base program." She ain't gonna let humans come back into the game.

dunno if I accept this Monster Sob Story this late in the game but I do like how everyone is aware of the overt symbolism and Odin's deliberate leaning into it

I wonder how Hildr would feel about Roue's ultimate goal being to restore another Gear.

Doesn't seem sudden to me − Odin's curcimstances are basically the same as Hildr…'s, they simply drew different conclusions from them. In a way, creating Valhalla was Odin's conception of altruism for combat Gears like him. It's not like he's ever had any chance to learn human concepts like "morality" or "respect for life", which had probably gone down the drain by the end of the war anyway.

Hmm yeah, that's a good point

I think the fact that everyone not named more or less became fodder for both sides at the end of this arc is what's bothering me

Hmm… well, that ominous cliffhanger didn't amount to much in the end.

Anyway, the party's over, Hildr put her mantle cloak on. tongue Aaand she's not going with them. Goddammit.

So on to Heavenland, I guess. I hope we get a few slice-of-life chapters in-between though, it's been a while.

Rock's officially joined the party for realsies grin

Sure is convenient that Rock has the data for Heaven Land copied away, gonna be neutral on this writing decision until the story ends before deciding whether this is bad or good.

Actually yeah this makes sense as the endpoint for Hildr considering her backstory, hopefully she'll have a better space and more help to try rehabilitation and help the combat Gears develop their own path in life. I hope Hildr does at least come back once.

Now that they've left Valhalla, I can't wait to see how Rock changes up the party dynamic when they encounter the next Gear of the week.

Now this is getting interesting…

On one side, we get our first peaceful SOL chapter in a while. With robot euthanasia. Huh.

On the other we have two antagonists who politely debate about whether our heroes should be welcomed or killed.

So it's quite a different kind of conflict we're in for this time.
