The rumors of the High Republic movies make this even more interesting as they might try to connect the 2 settings.

Also I hear Keanu Reeves may be tapped to play Revan but again that's just another rumor.

[up] Considering the nature of Nightsister magic, I wouldn't be surprised if they brought back Mother Talzin for a final go. In a kind of grand finale to the whole Nightsisters biz. Would be a good excuse to have Ventress & the Maul brothers as bosses.

Though I really hope Merrin doesn't die. I'd like for her & Cal & like retire on Dathomir to start a family without having to suffer at the hands of the FO. Hopefully the Knights of Ren's performance in Rise is indicative of how they fare against any trained Force-user. Merrin would run circles around those idiots, that's for sure.

I'd like to see Merrin actually becoming a sort of Jedi-Nightsister hybrid, really. Maybe with Cal and Cere teaching her.

Reeves as Revan would be dope

I want them to hire someone unexpected and nondescript as Revan, especially if they make a KOTOR film or tv show, because casting a big name as the guy who turns out to be Revan would ruin the “I’m just a guy -> no, you’re the arch villain” flow.

Really the main problem with making a KOTOR series would be that it would just be the Un-Twist.

Yeah that's probably the main reason they're taking so long to talk about it. There's no way they'd want to make a trilogy where the entire fandom knows the big plot twist before it even starts... which admittedly I just realized describes the Prequels perfectly, but still.

They're probably going to follow the trend they set with Thrawn and Kylo Ren by taking ideas and characters from the old version (Thrawn and Darth Caedus, in that case) and making a thematically similar but ultimately very different story with them.

Honestly I don't think there's any other way of making the twist a surprise aside from not making the player character Revan.

No matter how they adapt it (there’s been talk of tv shows and even movies too, so who knows) they could possibly throw off the scent by making it look like the player / protag isn’t Revan - by casting them as someone who doesn’t resemble the previous “canon” Revan, by making the plot look like something different, changing up the context, etc - only to reveal that it was the plot we knew the whole time halfway through.

Hell, I’m a tv or film adaptation they could probably throw off half the fanbase just by making Revan a woman. The sexists would throw a fit, but meh on them.

My only request for a KOTOR game remake is that they make the starting world significantly shorter and/or less annoying. The game is fantastic, but it doesn’t get that way or even really start resembling fun until several hours of gameplay later when you finally leave the first world, which an annoying slog that just... keeps... going.

You could also just make the twist unimportant to the audience. Instead devote that time to fleshing out Revan as a character.

As for Fallen order, Merrin was pretty easily my favourite character, even with her limited appearance.

It would be good to give Revan in-game character.

He was voiceless cipher in the original game.

[up][up] I dunno. That twist is maybe the strongest twist in the entire Star Wars franchise, and it's a story that has an opportunity to actually deliver a unique, well characterized twist that is different than the kind of things they usually have delivered to them.

As someone who doesn't particularly like twists, I generally point to this one as an example of one that's very well conceived, with a quality that most twists don't succeed in accomplishing (hence why most twists kind of suck).

Plus, if yo're going to minimize the Revan twist, you might as well not make it KOTOR. There's plenty of other stories they could adapt about villains who chose to become good guys.

The twist is great but if the majority of the audience already know it's coming it's meaningless.

So, yes, if all they are gonna do is remake it exactly the same but prettier, they may as well not.

The "majority" of the audience doesn't. Only fans who played the original game, or know it's plot do (which, taking into account that said group is not the general audience, makes them more a very strong minority).

And as I mentioned above there are relatively easy ways to alter details or appearances and obscure that from them to a degree without seriously impacting the story if they really wanted to.

Okay. I disagree, but it's certainly not worth debating, especially not in the fallen order thread.

Well there is the current generation of fans who have no idea who Revan aside from mentions of his name.

At the end of the day, there are multiple ways they could go about it. If they do remake it, I'll be curious of their approach.

According to Gaider, Revan was initially planned or written (I'd have to double check his exact wording) as female. They just went with a customizable pc.

Yeah, and Avellone wrote Kotor 2 with the assumption Revan was a female. Hence Atton's dialogue.
