Apparently the release date is Nov. 15th of this year - that's much sooner than I was expecting. Cool.
Gone to Faerie, no forwarding address. (AO3)Well it has been in development almost two years by this point since it got (extremely clumsily) announced at E3 last year.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Only two years?
Man, I hope they didn't force their developers into crunch time.
Disgusted, but not surprisedSpit Take Star Wars Souls? Sign me the fuck up.
So we getting a new trailer today?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It's a great idea. Previous Star Wars games have had a problem with not really being able to balance heroes swinging around a laser sword with threat level: so you get Dynasty Warriors-esque games where you're flinging around dozens of enemies in a single swing even though Star Wars isn't really like that.
Having it be tense as an actual swordfight - if a bit more bombastic - with a lot of focus on timing, reaction and senses imo feels more Jedi like.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.According to a recent IGN article, Chris Avellone is attached to the project. On the one hand, I think this is great - the writing team has someone with proven talent and valuable experience. On the other hand, I can't stand his writing, so his presence is a mixed blessing from my perspective.
Gone to Faerie, no forwarding address. (AO3)Ugh, is he going to write Kreia 2.0?
Disgusted, but not surprised(For the uninitiated, Chris Avellone is known for his work on games like Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity and Prey. He's also done writing for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords and various SW comic book miniseries from 2005-2007.)
A pity about the lack of multiplayer. A more speedy, futuristic Souls-style game with the ability to have friends join you in combat or help you out of tight spots would've been amazing.
Frankly the Star Wars franchise NEEDS more Kreia types. Way too many of their heroes and villains are far too cookie-cutter black-and-white, and its why I liked so much how TLJ turned everything on it's head.

So we should have more characters complaining about the Force, how terrible it is, & how pointless everything is?
Cause that sounds like something only one character should ever do.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That Kriea types just makes everything Grey and Black with the Grey leaning as far on the black they can get
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!Plus every time I hear something about Kriea she sounds ungodly insufferable.
Imagine having multiple characters in that level of annoying.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."-taps microphone-
Is this thing on? Good. Ahem.
Kreia. Is. A. Villain.
She exists to be proven wrong. Her ideas are not intended to be taken as the gospel t ruth and, indeed, you gain Influence with her by questioning, not blindly obeying. The final battle with her is a battle of wills and philosophies where you triumph over her as the bearer of a superior will and philosophy.
Does she question the saccharine one-dimensional garbage of the OT? Sure, why not. We all have grow older than five eventually. But adversity is strength. Faith in your companions, in your morals, is worthless unless you have had that faith tested, if you have had to sincerely think about your morals. Kreia does that, she tests you and your ideas. Some might get lost along the way - carried off by the strength of her charisma and winding up lost . i n the middle ground. But KOTOR 2's progression is simple: Believe in goodness, in altruism > have somebody show you that your beliefs are hardly facts and put sophisticatd objections to them > and then you emerge with the same beliefs as you began with but now they too are sophisticated, born of trial and experience instead of juvenile "this is just what I ws told by my kindergarten teacher/Jedi Master." (my apologies to kindergarten teachers for comparing them to shitheads like the Jedi)eeeq
And Chris Avellone is a genius and I remember before it became popular to whine about him.
This is not the "let's argue about Kreia for the thousandth time" thread. I'm sure there's a Sith Lords thread somewhere on the forums where the interested parties can do that.
Gone to Faerie, no forwarding address. (AO3)I never played KotoR, but now I made popcorn for nothing.

Honestly I’m more annoyed that apparently the OT is saccharine one-dimensional garbage.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I never liked it outside of Return of the Jedi. I was raised on the PT and as far as I can tel it got all the depth and nuance and was horribly resented for it.
The PT and the Legends EU are what made me a Star Wars fan.
I have very fond memories of being a little kid and watching the OT on my parents' VCR, but I think what really made me a Star Wars fan as a kid was the EU, namely the Young Jedi Knight series and KOTOR. The Force Unleashed too (but to a lesser degree) since I was really sick when it came out and it felt like such a power fantasy. I couldn't leave the house, but I sure as hell could throw stormtroopers into the stratosphere.
"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurThe PT is resented for having fucking awful executions, not for "nuance" or "depth".
Those perceived nuances or depth or whatever doesn't matter cause Lucas fucked up on actually making good stories out of it.
Even if the OT isn't as "complex" at least they are actually good films.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Live recap of what's being revealed at the panel.
Gone to Faerie, no forwarding address. (AO3)Not gonna lie, that trailer left me pretty damn bored.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyThe PT's reputation has been increasing recently, with even many detractors of their execution saying that they're very significant films from an artistic and thematic perspective, particularly due to resurgent sympathy for authoritarian populism ("security over liberty") like Palpatine's in various countries.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Yep. People are still salty over the acting and dialogue (which are blamed on Lucas), but everyone is grudgingly admitting that the themes and basic plots are good. I imagine TCW helped, as it has the same themes and expands on the plots, but with good acting and dialogue. I know it redeemed the whole prequel era for me.
Speaking of Visceral games...
Here's a "Death of a Game" vid about that from 2017.
The failure of the Star Wars game, which led to Visceral itself going down, was in large part due to Battlefield Hardline not doing so well. People working on Rag Tag got moved to working on Hardline, development slowed to a crawl, people left the studio...the whole thing spiraled further and further into oblivion.
And all the while the age-old struggle of business vs. creative decisions made things worse.
The part relevant to the Star Wars game starts around the 25:00 mark.
And yes, the "development team being cannibalized to support another failing project" thing was something that happened during Anthem's development as well.
