The following is the intro for a Horror/Mystery game taking inspiration from things like Delta Green and Lovecraft, as such reader discretion is advised. To those who have no interest in the horror genre or don't like frightening settings it is advised to find a different RP experience to sink your teeth into.

The following document is for eyes only, and requires the signing of the National Secrets Act, the Paranormal Suppression Privacy Papers, and a minimum of second level position within the 'Black Knight' program. Any unregistered reading of this document without the previous steps will result in immediate execution by firing squad and complete purge of personal history. Any attempts to copy this document outside of a level five breach event will result in immediate execution by firing squad and complete purge of personal history. Any attempts to speak about the contents held within this document with any person or being outside of someone who meets all previously mentioned requirements and is also at least a second level member of the 'Black Knight' program will lead to immediate execution by firing squad and complete purge of personal history.

Classification: Freak

If you are reading this document then I suppose a thank you is in order. The immense burden you are now choosing to undertake in the protection of this world is not to be held lightly. Contained within this document is a brief history of humanities enemy, which can be read up on more going forward, and the purpose of the 'Black Knight' defense program.

It is unknown when exactly the creatures we has classified as 'Freaks' first appeared, as their presence mimics a number of ancient myths that predate the groundwork of the Mesopotamia Empire. While their origin remains a mystery their methodology and makeup are more well known, as known as it could be given the sheer diversity among them. That being said we can broadly put them in two categories, the 'Male Worm' and the 'Female Abomination'.

The Male Worm is a thin creature of parasitic form which holds the ability to burrow through the skin of most mammals and take control of their bodies. Once in control the Male Worm will increase the basic functions of the creature, showing an immense ability to control the biology of the subject. Their intelligence is proportional to that of the creature it has taken control of, through it shows a propensity toward taking human hosts.

The Female Abominations are beings that defy classical descriptions, as they are each unique in build, containing many natural defenses, along with a number of unexplained abilities. The sheer variety of forms would normally lead to further attempts at classification, but as each being is wholly unique is becomes easier to shorten it to the singular. The Female Abomination Freaks are extremely difficult to kill, with even injury being difficult to inflict. They are known to hibernate for long periods of time, drawing in their mass into a more compact form, but once awakened can easily have forms that dwarf buildings.

Many researchers have stated the only reason that humanity has managed to survive against such creatures is due to their breeding habits. Outside of certain time periods the Female and Male Freaks are unable to reproduce, with the Female Freak devouring the Male if it should approach with the same violence it shows any intruders. Reproduction rates are unknown, as allowing it to occur for the purposes of study would be a gross and negligent oversight of the 'Black Knight' program.

The relationship between the Freak species and humans is that of predator and prey, with Male Worm Freaks using humans and other animals as hosts while the Female Abominations will use all organic matter as food. However those that survive an encounter with either variety of Freak will undergo a change.

Researchers who have looked into those who survive theorize that the meeting of a creature on a higher echolon of the food chain creates a third option to the normal 'Fight or Flight' response, an 'evolutionary' response. The manifestation of this response opens a part of the brain which allows access to certain unique abilities. Some can start fires with a thought, or gain the same kind of biological control that Male Freaks show over their hosts in a more limited sense.

These abilities tax the body and mind when in use, but allow a layer of protection about the more strange abilities that Freaks bring to bear. Thus it is the mission of the 'Black Knight' program to recruit all of those who have undergone the 'evolutionary' response and train them to the best of their abilities to protect the world.

Oh yes, before when I was congradulating you on joining, I suppose I should be more sensitive. You no longer have any other choice. The organization will provide for you, but there is no longer any other road for you but to act as the worlds shield.

So welcome to Black Knight, a horror/mystery RP where players will take the roles of Psychic's tasked with the hunting of the Freaks. The RP will be more of a collabrative writing experiment rather then a free form game, with various actions discussed between players in a discord server and then written on tvtropes in a 'play by post' fashion. As such the amount of space for players is limited, and not everyone who makes a sheet will be guarnteed entry into the game baring player drop out or further need for more characters.

That being said I look forward to seeing what is created, and writing with everyone who makes it.

  • Manifestation Type: (There are two different types of Manifestation: Psychic and Physical. A psychic manifestation results in abilities like telekinesis, psychokinesis, and telepathy, and will often tax the mind while in use. Physical manifestations conversely will allow for modification of the body, either enhanced strength or speed, or the growth of some biological advantage (weapons, extra limbs, etc.) and will tax the body to exhaustion)
  • Psychic/Physical Ability Description: (As a safety measure against power gaming remember the stronger the ability the greater the drawback. Humans weren't designed to use these powers and the kickback should reflect that.)
  • Equipment: (Load out your character for the role you want them to have. Things like smartphones and wallets and other essentials don't need to be put here. But knives, specialty tools, and other bits that inform how your character helps to investigate are.)
  • Personality: (How your character interacts with the world at large, the initial impression that people would get after a first meeting)
  • History: (Go into a bit of your characters past. How did they awaken? What were they like before joining the organization? How does their history effect them now? Try to answer these to give a brief snapshot of who your character is.)
  • Etc: (A place for any information that doesn't fall under the other categories.)

  • Name: Ostrovskaya Anastasiya (Anastasia) Vyascheslavovna
  • Age: 32
  • Appearance: 6'2". Commonly dressed extravagantly (furs are not uncommon) and often wears small, rounded sunglasses. Powers manifest as an orangish-white in colouration. Relatively expressionless and unreadable.
  • Blood Type: B+
  • Manifestation Type: Psychic
  • Psychic/Physical Ability Description:
    • Psi-Orbs: Tightly packed, potent spheres of pure psionic energy that Anastasia can produce from her body—most typically from her limbs. While solid in nature, the orbs have properties resembling that of plasma and can be triggered to explode either on contact or with the flick of a mental switch—although for every orb Anastasia summons and explodes she receives an intense psychic backdraft regardless of her distance. While handy in letting her know that she's hit something even when out of sight, overuse of her powers in such a short timeframe can begin to induce phantom pains all across her body (usually starting on her left and then her right wrists), which if pressured beyond even that can start to violently twist and contort her form beyond repair (due to the superfluous amounts of psychic energy in her body, her brain attempts to expel it by pushing it through her limbs and sending her into a spasm as a result.
  • Equipment:
    • PSS-2 – Silent Pistol: Despite her conviction that her powers will be the best help, Anastasia also carries with her more conventional arms. A relatively compact pistol with a mechanism that makes it practically noiseless while fired, the PSS (or MSS "VUL") is a useful thing to surprise her opponents with close-range. Anastasia usually hides it in the folds of her clothing for quick usage, and for such a tiny weapon it has a surprising amount of force. Anastasia usually brings this out for either intimidation or for when her powers are beginning to overload on her.
    • Combat Knife: A small thing hidden in her boot. From a relatively niche (and brutal) market of self-defense weaponry, this knife has a jagged edge and is constructed of a strong metal alloy; able to cut through flesh with relative ease despite its suspiciously blunted blade. Unfortunately it isn't exceptional in use as a throwing projectile, and thus to effectively use it Anastasia has to rely on her weakest of attributes—sneaking up on her opponent.
  • Personality: A somewhat quiet, snarky, and severe woman with a hint of arrogance lacing her tone. Deeper investigations will glean more snark, more arrogance, and the creeping convictions of utter derangement amongst other things. Thankfully though, Anastasia is fundamentally good in her intentions, and recognizes that these beasts would easily squash her without proper backup. It still doesn't prevent her from acting prideful around her allies, though, and she's quick to underestimate people as a result of her supposed ‘blessings’. Her occasionally limited English does not prevent her from being verbose and obnoxious, and if there's one thing that quickly becomes apparent is that she has no idea when to shut up and be stealthy. Still, she's no fool, and if convinced to be something other than snippy and resentful she can gather in enough practical information to put together a plan. At the end of the day, though, Anastasia's superficial pride outweighs all, and now that she's ‘evolved’ she's convinced there's no going back. In more ways than one.
  • History: Even before she awakened Anastasia was... well... a bit of a bitch. A noblewoman back in Russia, Anastasia had a relatively segregated life from the common people with her husband Krasimir, who was the son of a notable war veteran and pioneer for many military ventures. Undoubtedly this had an effect on her pride, and despite her genuine love for her husband there was a considerable edge of manipulation, commandeering, and materialism on her part that most likely contributed to his distinctly stammering and timid demeanour. This cycle came to a screeching halt when their home was suddenly attacked one night by what Anastasia would later learn was a Male Worm class of Freak—which promptly lunged for her in an attempt to overtake her body. Lashing out in self-defense and fright (a rare emotion in the woman up until that point), she unknowingly awakened her powers and promptly blasted the thing away. Attempting to call out to her husband, Anastasia could only watch the event that would cement her later cold and distant demeanour—the invading creature burrowed through the skin of Krasimir and immediately possessed him. Realising what she had to do after a brief period of it screaming and slashing her, she reluctantly let out another blast; obliterating over half the creature's body at once in her desperation and promptly fleeing the estate. With nowhere else to go and her freshly manifested psionic powers acting uncontrollably, Anastasia eventually signed up for the Black Knight program—out of urge to both avenge her husband and punish herself for her inaction and immediate execution. With better control over her powers, Anastasia is prepared to do just that—foresaking proper gear out of confidence that her powers alone will ‘give her exactly what she's aiming for.’

  • Name: Wilmarina Printer
  • Age: 20
  • Appearance: Wilmarina is short and stocky. She had brown eyes and waist-length hair, which she gathers into two low pigtails. She usually wears some sort of business attire with pleated skirts and some form of practical-looking leather boots. Most notably, she never seems to take off her darkly colored aviator glasses.
  • Blood Type: O+
  • Manifestation Type: Psychic
  • Psychic Ability Description: Wilmarina can summon two small invisible psychic constructs from her eye-holes, which can only be seen if one also has a perception-based ability. They look like her previous pair of eyes, each bearing a pair of crow wings and legs, and each possessing a small mouth with sharp teeth. They are called Huginn & Muninn. Wilmarina can see through her two psychic familiars, and can also toggle on the abilities to a) see through walls, b) remotely read text, or c) see "hidden" things (like lies) one at a time, and with a steady draining rate. The farther Huginn and Muninn are sent away from her, the weaker her powers get (with the drain increasing). Finally, they are able to fire off weak but precise psychic blasts from themselves, which also chips away at Wilmarina's mental strength. If one of them is destroyed, it can be regenerated with willpower, but again, that also takes its toll.
  • Equipment: A pistol with bullets, a medkit
  • Personality: Quiet and reserved, probably because she feels more like listening than speaking. On the rare occasion that she speaks, it's in a monotone cracked murmur. However, she has a kind disposition wrapped under all that mysticism, and will often help people when others are not looking. Overall, she seems strange.
  • History: Wilmarina was an ordinary librarian, until one day when she wasn't. Her library was inexplicably attacked by a Female Abomination Freak, and the resulting chaos resulted in her losing both eyes. However, this only served to make her angry and scared at the same time, and this dangerous cocktail of emotions triggered her Awakening. With Huginn and Muninn summoned, she managed to fight off the Female Abomination by annoying it with her weak psychic blasts. Thus, having nowhere else to turn, she signed up for the Black Knight program.
  • Etc: Huginn and Muninn consider each other as brothers and in fact, have their own distinct personalities.

Name: Eli Henderson Age: 25 Appearance: Eli has Aburn hair, standing at 5'11' with black eyes and a sturdy build, He usually wears an attire of a Longsleeved shirt and pants, his footwear are basic sneakers with Rubber soles. He has a Burn mark on his right hand that has faded. Blood Type: O+

Psychic Ability Description: Eli has Fire starting and fire controlling powers,Otherwise known as Pyrokinesis, with this power he Can start fires with a thought and control it with a wave, however this comes at a cost, mainly his will. You see While he can control fires with a considerable effort and less chances of harming himself mentally, starting fires is a different thing altogether as he would experience the feeling of burning and risk mental harm occurring.

Equipment: Pistol, Pistol ammo, a radio, a lighter, flare gun.

Personality: Eli Henderson is a Stern temperamental man, prone to snapping at those who tend not to think about the bigger picture or work purely for self gain, if one were to stay with him for long enough they would find him loyal, helpful, and more often than not a Realist or at least Occam's razor, often trying to figure out and get others to act upon the simplest solution before moving onto the next, trying to rely on as little guesses as possible.

History: Eli was a Police officer, until one day a chance encounter brought that Career of his to an End. He and some other officers were called in to investigate a Disturbance in a normally quiet neighborhood, He arrived first. when he arrived Mr.Henderson discovered the Male Worm and the unlucky man the Worm was tunneling into attempting to turn him into a host. Eli not knowing what was happening just stared in horror as the worm exited his view and tunneled deeper into the man, eventually the possession would be complete, and the Man turned Host would attack Eli. As Eli lashed back in self defense he would find it insufficient as the Host landed a painful hit on him, Within that pain is where his first usage of his Pyrokinesis came from, as he set his right hand on fire and hit the host with a flaming right hook which incapacitated it long enough to find that he had his hand on fire and quickly extinguishing it with the the nearby sprinkler system which was active, after that he wanted to know what the hell was that thing, and why the hell is it here, which lead to him joining the Black Knight program.

Etc: After the incident with the Host he resigned from being a policeman, when asked why, he refuses to answer.
