Waypoint City, Washington.

It isn't much, but it's home. This boring, ordinary city where the most excitement is when it stops raining for more than a few days.

''It's been that way forever, and it looked like it would be that way for the forseeable future too.'"

But now...

"Would you like to play a game?"

Hey, what's all this then? Well, this is an original roleplay that takes inspiration from the Kamen Rider series, specifically Kamen Rider Ryuki in which multiple transforming warriors duked it out for a shot at a miracle.

This RP is also inspired by Persona 3, mostly in its themes, you'll see that in a bit in the lore section.

But first as a general rule: because of the setup, PVP may happen. Please be considerate of other players and refrain from godmodding, autohitting and generally making your character invincible. That's boring and frustrating, we're all here to have fun. GM arbitration will be a thing if it goes too far, so keep that in mind.

With that said, here's our lore:

The Crisis at Waypoint

Waypoint City was never the most exciting place to live. It was fairly big, sure, but there was never really anything going on - the biggest name to come from Waypoint was a pop idol who grew up there.

Most lived their life completely normally, same thing, day after day.

Until now: six months ago, October, 2018 was when it started.

Odd cases of a strange new disease. People just suddenly collapse, and when they wake up, they've lost all memory, all emotion, and all will. Lifeless puppets that simply...exist. No one could explain what was happening. Only a few victims at first...and then more. People simply...existing instead of living.

And then came the messages. Through text, through e-mail, through chat. A single message, sent to dozens, hundreds of people around the city.

"Do you want to play a game?"

The Otherworld

The Otherworld is a strange reality existing just beneath our own, the realm of the human psyche, where time and space are meaningless.

And in this world, shadowy abominations (dubbed many things by many different people, but most commonly called simply The Enemy) have begun to spawn and it is these creatures that have been devouring the minds and souls of the people. They take on many forms, based on the monsters that haunt human imagination.

The Enemy feeds on the minds of regular people -their cognitive self- that appear in the Otherworld while they sleep, and this is the cause of the disease now plaguing Waypoint.

Normal people cannot enter Otherworld by their own power. However....

The Celestials and The Game

To those who accepted the strange message asking them to play a game, they were given power. The power to enter Otherworld by creating Gates on any reflective surface.

But a human cannot survive in Otherworld, and that's where the Celestial Armor comes in.

For a player of the Great Game, once they accept the offer, a Prize would be claimed. Something they hold dear.

But a physical object it is not. A prized talent, a singer's voice, even memory itself. Something you cherish will be taken.

And from that Prize, your armor will be forged. Named for a celestial body, bearing weapons and abilities that can harm and even destroy the Enemy.

With these, the player, now known as a Celestial, can enter Otherworld and defeat the Enemy that spawn and thus prevent them from claiming new victims.

However, the game isn't pure altruism.

With each of the Enemy defeated, the player gains Umbrae, their essence. As the player collects more and more Umbrae, the player becomes more powerful.

As the message says, it is a game. Any player who reaches the pinnacle - Level Ten - is granted power over the Otherworld for a brief moment, allowing them to be granted a single wish. Any wish.

And furthermore, a Celestial may attack another, and with each injury, take some of the other player's Umbrae for themself. And if a player takes all of another's Umbrae....then that player would die.

Six months have passed since the game started, and now Otherworld is locked in a cold war....

The Kings and their Unions

The Kings were the first players, the first given the message and the closest to reaching Level Ten. However, the obscene Umbrae requirement that no one knows has prevented them from reaching that pinnacle.

They were twelve when they started, but currently they number only six - the Lost Kings as others began to call them, vanished, their fates unknown save for one. The Gemini King, attacked by their comrade, the Capricorn King, for their Umbrae to see if that would be enough to reach level ten. It was not.

Currently, the Kings have created their Unions, groups of Celestials under their protection, marked by a special technique granted at Level Nine. Each member of the Unions have to obey their Kings, but in exchange have the protection and perks granted by said King. Still, there are those Celestials who choose to remain neutral - unaligned to any of the six Unions.

The Kings and their Unions are as follows:

  • The Aries King (Aries-385) and her Union - The Red Kingdom: A Union formed solely to protect its members from players who would attack them. They refuse to fight other Celestials except in self defense, and focus on taking down the Enemy to save the people of Waypoint.
  • The Virgo King (Virgo-134) and her Union - Lily White: A neutral Union that focuses on themselves first and foremost. While not bloodthirsty, Lily White members would sometimes let an Enemy grow stronger by feeding so that it would give more Umbrae.
  • The Sagittarius King (Sagittarius-248) and her Union - The Arrows: This Union is an informal collection of people who mainly go off on their own. The King is very hands off, and the only rule is to protect each other.
  • The Leo King (Leo-122) and his Union - The Legion: Self proclaimed peacekeepers of the Otherworld, hunting those Celestials who have become more dangerous to people than even the Enemy.
  • The Taurus King (Taurus-879) and his Union (Unnamed) - Much like the Arrows, a mostly free Union, but have recently started expanding for reasons unknown. Known to steal Enemy kills from other Legions to claim the Umbrae. No tactic is considered dishonorable in claiming Umbrae.
  • The Capricorn King (Capricorn-015) and his Union - Dominus: A legion focused on reaching higher levels above all. Though they generally do not attack any one from other Legions and can be counted to help against particularly nasty Enemies, they have been known to attack unaligned Celestials who they feel deserves it.

  • Name: JJ Jade
  • Celestial Name: Cerberus 666
  • Age: 18
  • Gender: Female
  • Level: 2
  • Union: Unaligned
  • Appearance: A pale, lean girl with sunken-looking eyes and multiple colored streaks dyed into her dark hair. She tends to wear a leather jacket and pants and is constantly chewing on something.
  • Armor Appearance: Taking after Cerberus' constellation where he was depicted as a three-headed snake the armor is black with emerald highlights coiling and looping back and forth. Both the face concealing helmet and the gauntlets are themed after snake heads.
  • Armor's Weapons: Serpent fangs- wrist claws that can extend and retract out of the "mouths" of her gauntlets
  • Ability: Having given up the ability to be sated, JJ's power has taken her hunger to ridiculous extremes, able to eat energy based abilities targeted at her. If she consumes to must to control she can release this energy in a chaotic burst.
  • Personality: JJ was extremely playful and snarky before. Since she is always hungry now she has been extremely angry and irritable and now affects the air of a starving predator. That being said she can be extremely focused when there is a clear goal to achieve. However her good judgement has been somewhat muddled by Cerberus muttering in her ear constantly.
  • Bio: JJ was orphaned at a young age, having lost her previously large family. Because of this she had trouble adjusting to foster home and subsequently ran away or was kicked out of a large number of these foster homes. As such she spent many nights hungry and alone. As she grew older she ended up more and more involved with the criminal element of the area, constantly being in and out of juvie. In the wake of The Game she decided she would participate both to protect those on the fringes of society and make sure no orphan would ever go hungry again. She figured that sacrificing her ability to be sated would be canceled out by the wish anyway. However there is one further issue complicating things: A being claiming to be the mythological figure Cerberus is constantly in her head, trying to make her serve it's own agenda as it is extremely angry that it has been weakened due to having been forgotten as a constellation and the Greek pantheon no longer being worshipped.

-dramatic music ensues-

  • Name: Loke Kinipela
  • Celestial Name: Tagai-879
  • Age: 21
  • Gender: Female
  • Level: 3
  • Union: Taurus
  • Appearance: Loke is a tall girl of fillipino/polynesian descent with long waist length black hair, she is of medium build and is often smiling, however, she has a Glasgow smile, making it rather disquieting instead of welcoming. Loke also has a horrific mass of scar tissue covering her left side from her navel to her breast from a shark attack.
Armor Appearance: Loke's armored form gives her the impression of a humanoid shark, with wooden pauldrons inscribed with images of heroes. Her helm's face resembles the jagged jaws of a great white shark and she wears a long half cape around her left shoulder.
  • Armor's Weapons:
    • Leiomano: Loke wields a Sharktooth war club in combat, though, rather than the real size used on humans, Loke's is massive. It's about five feet long and weighs about ten pounds, yet Loke can lift it easily (though it is not wielded with any sort of grace) It can not cut cleanly, often getting caught in a monsters flesh and needing to be torn out.
    • Cape: Loke's cape, while not restricting her movement, is heavy enough to work as a shield, allowing her to defend against the claws of lighter monsters, or swing it to stun one.
  • Ability: Having sacrificed her memories, Loke is able to absorb the memories of those around her. For example, when someone within two meters of her, they share the same amount of memories, allowing Loke their skills...if not the muscle memory. For example, if near a surgeon, Loke will remember how to perform open heart surgery, but not the steadiness of hand required for her to carry through with it.
  • Personality: Loke is always cheerful. She is always excited about something and is generally a friendly, if intimidating person. Loke enjoys Grindcore music, swimming and exploring the swamps. she is not ashamed by her scars and is rather happy about it, She enjoys the works of Marquis De Sade, Serial Killers and Blaxploitation movies. She is a skilled Dancer, diver and can sing death metal quite well. That said, Loke is beginning to grow...feral due to her difficulties with with memory. She needs to be grounded by others but as of now? Splitting her memory with so many others is beginning to take its toll on her.
  • Bio: Loke was born in the Phillipines, where her father came from. Unfortunately, after he died in a heart attack, Loke's mother took her and her brother to Hawaii where they were taught Japanese and Polynesian, to help with this, their grandmother told them stories of heroes fighting mighty battles, not just from her people's legends, but also Loke's own heritage. Her great grandfather fought in both world wars and her father fought in Vietnam. She dreamed that she would one day join the army and become a mighty warrior and defender of righteousness like those that came before her. However, once she was mauled by a shark, she was sent to live with her elderly uncle in Washington where she received a...strange message.

  • Name: Damien Carter/Sean 'SK' Krieger
  • Celestial Name: Algol 647
  • Age: 22
  • Gender: Male
  • Level: 2/1
  • Union: Unaligned/The Red Kingdom
  • Appearance: Like so. Whereas Damien has generally poor posture and is generally very dishevelled looking, Krieger holds himself quite a bit more confidently and tidies himself up a bit more (Albeit while still having a decent amount of wildness to his grooming).
  • Armor Appearance: Damien wears a suit of armour that vaguely resembles the robes of a wizard befitting his preferred method of combat. Krieger's gear, on the other hand, is a bit bulkier and more noble in appearance.
  • Armor's Weapons:
    • Damien: Due to his loathing (and fear) of anything vaguely resembling physical confrontation, Damien's armour is equipped with palm mounted energy blasters that can fire small exploding balls of energy or unleash powerful beams of energy upon his foes.
    • Krieger: N/A, Krieger's armour is the weapon.
  • Ability: After sacrficing his own mental autonomy, Damien gained a second, distinct personality in the form of someone who is essentially his mirror opposite; Sean Krieger. With this in mind, Damien and Krieger share a body and suit of armour, however, due to the nature of Damien's sacrifice, he will switch personalities on the fly, and when in combat, his armour will near-instantaneously swap forms to fit whichever personality is dominant. While the personality changes are more or less random, Krieger will occasionally force a swap whenever Damien is in danger due to being overwhelmed by physically powerful foes.
  • Personality: Since Damien technically has two, I'll be making two seperate entries. While both personalities, coexist, neither can really communicate with each other, even if they are more or less aware of what the other is doing when not in control.
    • Damien: Damien is an introverted and self-centred individual who only really cares about his own personal gains, be it gaining fame and fortune from his writing or gaining power in the Otherworld. While in the real world he tends to keep to himself, avoiding any and all social contact unless it is 100% neccessary, refusing to speak to his publishers in person and keeping e-mails and phonecalls as short as humanly possible. As for how he operates in the Otherword, Damien would just as gladly destroy The Enemy as his fellow players, as long as he grows stronger from it, eschewing any and all alliances, and refusing to join anyone's Union, seeing himself as above such things. If Krieger is in charge, Damien will rarely attempt to seize control of their body if Krieger is amongst people he considers allies, both out of fear of interaction and knowing full well that he couldn't handle fighting them.
    • Krieger: When Damien sacrificed his mental autonomy, Krieger sort of just... appeared in his subconcious. Finding Damien's actions and behaviours vile, Krieger vowed to do his best to become Damien's antithesis. In the real world, Krieger is an outgoing, bombastic man who enjoys spending time in grimy concert halls and making friends whenever he can. When he finds himself in the Otherworld, Krieger assumes something of a guardian role when amongst fellow players, going out of his way to protect his friends from stronger foes by quite literally dragging them as far away as humanly possible and beating on them until candy comes out, while also glady taking the proverbial bullets for any who might be in grave danger. Despite his low level, Krieger doesn't worry about what could happen to him as long as he manages to do some good on his way out. Despite his best wishes, Krieger often has difficulty taking over from Damien when Damien is engaging in his various slimy activities.
  • Bio: A Canadian expat and modestly successful writer of Cosmic horror, Damien Carter moved to Waypoint city for the atmosphere, thinking it might help him with his writing, giving him a great deal of inspiration for the worlds he created, that and he could more or less physically avoid contact with his publishers and editors. Despite his best efforts to avoid them, Damien's nightmares were full of Eldritch terrors which often led to many sleepless nights, triggering a great deal of paranoia in the young man, and much like his greatest inspiration, the late Howard Phillips Lovecraft, his greatest fear was losing his sanity to these nightmares. It was only when he received a mysterious e-mail asking him if he 'wanted to play a game' that his greatest fears finally became reality. With the new personality of Sean Krieger sharing a body, and both personalities vying for jarringly different goals Damien dreams of finally destroying his opposite, while Krieger, should he reach level 10, plans to simply divide himself and Damien into two people so they can finally settle their differences in person.

  • Name: Daniel Pietri
    • Celestial Name: Ursa 305
  • Age: 20
  • Gender: Male
  • Level: Level 2
  • Union: The Arrows
  • Appearance: Daniel is a guy of average height and build, standing at 5'7" with slicked back dirty blonde hair, often constrained in a backwards baseball cap. He has dark olive skin and piercing green eyes. He is a little messy and disheveled, but isn't filthy by any means.
    • Armor Appearance: Daniel's armor is big and spiky, a shiny brown layering over itself with scales, yet surprisingly fast; It's not bulky, just big, and it has sharp claws for gauntlets. It has a mouthpiece that comes up and creates a snout for better tracking and a mouth of metal teeth.
      • Armor's Weapons: The armor is a weapon, but it would be nice to go over...
        • Bear Claws: A pair of gauntlets with extendable claws, used for up-close oppression.
        • Muzzle: A snout-mouth combo, which allows for scent-based tracking and a killer bite.
  • Ability: As Daniel has sacrificed the ability to feel pain (trust me, pain receptors are actually a good thing), his durability has been raised to obscene amounts, rendering him immune to most normal damages up to a specific strength. This only gets even more obscenely BS as his level grows...
    • "Recoome doesn't sell anything but merchandise."
    • "Tis but a scratch!"
  • Personality: Daniel is just... average. A bit goofy, he's an everyman who got the email by what he assumed to be some sort of spiritual clerical error. He just wants to get the most out of this situation for everyone, go back to his everyday life, before this ever happened. He's the guy who would take the blue pill just to keep some semblance of normalcy. He tends to play the straight man, commenting on all this craziness and just wanting to have some peaceful time. That's not to say he's jaded and cynical; He's a happy dude, just one who wants to be normal. If he got the wish, he'd wish for everything to go back to the way it was, the only memory being that of each other. He's a bit clumsy, though, and tends to get himself in painful situations alot.
  • Bio: Daniel was born in Hawaii to a Russo-American father and Hawaiian mother, and was raised there, having a decent childhood, even if they weren't always the best off. He had decent friends, and he was the butt of jokes once or twice, but never really bullied. As a young'un, he was even clumsier than he was now, and inherently curious; He relied on the pain of the experience in order to tell him that that's something you don't do, as otherwise he was relatively unfettered for a little kid, and that trait even kept with him as an adult. When he grew old enough, he went to the mainland US, specifically Texas, to get a business degree and try to use the modicum of vocal talent he had to join one of those anime dubbing groups. One night, he was looking at his email, waiting for contact from one of those groups, when he got the email that changed his life for the dangerous. He thought that this was some sort of mistake, he had never signed up for one of these things! He responded he would go down there and discuss the situation... Unfortunately, that was taken as a yes, and now here he is.

  • Name: Marine Sasoeur
  • Celestial Name: Pyxis 317
  • Age: 23
  • Gender: F
  • Level: 2
  • Union: Unaligned
  • Appearance: Marine accessorizes her look with swimwear and flannel, stocky at about 5'3. A dangerous lifestyle has her cycling in and out of all kinds of different casts and bandages most weeks.
  • Armor Appearance: Pyxis 317 has sort of a sea-captain look to her. She has the classic poofy pants that stop just below the knee to allow for hard-paneled pirate boots with the high cuffs and pointed tips, both blue with white trim. She has a belt with an anchor and a row of small fishhooks decorating it, as well as a fancy belt buckle like a ship's wheel. She wears a hard armored vest under an angular sleeveless pirate coat, with large heavily-armored arms and a helmet with an upward-pointed peak like the front of a ship. She has one eye peeking out on one side of the helmet's plated texture.
  • Armor's Weapons: The Pyxis Anchor is a huge anchor on a ten foot chain generally carried on her hip. It can transform into a huge ballista with a neon-glowing string and fire bolts pulled from cases on her hips.
  • Ability: Marine gave up her ability to swim or even float in water in exchange for the power to conjure a truly seaworthy vessel and the water it needs. On activation, water rapidly wells up around Marine from any space it could feasibly come up from the ground, and her boat emerges from the water ready for her. The water moves with her as she does, and vanishes with a snap of her fingers. At her current level it just means she has a small jetski, but it could feasibly move ever higher from there.
  • Personality: A violent delinquent. Marine doesn't have the patience for anyone but herself taking time to chill. She has a job for sure, but she mostly sees that as a sign that she is in fact a mature adult, and can look down on anyone she sees as a Fucking Child. Some people may be worthy of her liking them but this is mostly just people as dangerou as she is and who she doesn't see as competition in the Game.
  • Bio: Marine was born in France to a pair of IT technicians and at the time life was good. She lived well and had good success making friends as a child, but around the age of 12 her parents picked up roots and moved to Waypoint for a job, killing Marine's ability to form friends and sending her on a hard path of delinquency. She was kicking ass a couple years after she moved to Waypoint, and after getting her first car she found a lot of solace in long car rides, especially down to Oregon to mix with new crowds, hook up with whoever, and see the beautiful beaches. She got into swimming as a means of getting out the jitters she normally got rid of by fighting, and a nicer criminal record got her work out of college as a maintenance worker on the Waypoint docks. It wasn't satisfying, but it did at least pay the bills—but not enough for her. Marine could see which way the wind was blowing; rent was going up and her parents were falling sick, money wouldn't stay okay forever. She jumped at the chance to join the Game, figuring that she could win some prize money from the whole experience. Getting all the cool armor was just a fringe bonus, and she still told herself that losing her ability to swim just meant she could stay focused on the Game.

  • Name: Bastion Demont.
  • Celestial Name: Cygnus 232
  • Age: 20
  • Gender: Male
  • Level: 2
  • Union: Lily White
  • Appearance: Of average height and average build, Bastion usually wears a simple hoodie and a pair of jeans. It helps him blend in a bit more with how plain and basic he looks. His hair is blonde, bordering on platinum blonde, and his eyes are ashen grey.
  • Armor Appearance: The Cygnus Armor is very Swan-Like, pure white with black lines coursing through the center of the limbs of his arms and legs. The boots are white with black soles and flourished wings on either side of the heel, similar to some depictions of Hermes of Mythology. The gloves are bulkier with feathered decals around the edges and what appears to be a ring of feathers around the wrists. The helmet is white with a black visor in the shape of a pair of wings, and a golden mouth piece reminiscent of a beak. A massive white cape billows out behind him.
  • Armor's Weapons: Wing Crescent: By hardening the Cape around his arms, they sharpen into blades that allow for close combat and hands free attacks.
  • Ability: Giving up his Imagination, Bastion is now quicker on the battle field, able to read abilities quicker and faster, and allows him almost see what his opponents are going to do before they can do it. At the moment, he needs to have analyzed his opponent for some time to get a ready on their strategy.
  • Personality: Bastion was, once upon a time, a happy go lucky, optimistic young man who could think of worlds and did everything he could to make everyone happy, even at his own happiness so long as he could make people smile! However, with his imagination gone, Bastion has turned more morose and serious, and a lot more robotic. Everything is a job now, and it's a job he's going to see through to the end.
  • Bio: Bastion grew up with the ambition to be a writer, or a painter, or something to that effect in the merry old town of London, and his little sisters enthusiasm was his main driving force in everything. Unfortunately, because life was often cruel, his sister was afflicted by a very rare strain of cancer and her time on this world was very up in the air. Bastion did everything he could think of for her, even going as far as suggesting to his mother and father to bring her, and him, out to Waypoint, where an experimental procedure was being offered for her exact situation. Arriving out there, with his sister in the process of being looked, a strange text got his attention...and from there, a surefire way to save his little sister.

  • Name: ——— (Just call her "Nameless," or by her Celestial name, since her real name is her Prize)
    • Celestial Name: Orion-777
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Level: 2
  • Union: The Sagittarius King & The Arrows
  • Appearance: A relatively nondescript schoolgirl of average height and weight. Black hair, brown eyes. Usually wears baggy street clothes, occasionally has a backpack with her. Unusually fierce eyebrows.
    • Armor Appearance: Looks like a black spy's catsuit, except made out of much more practical materials. Some Kevlar-like material is sewn into it to provide serviceable light armor. Instead of a helmet, it has a hood with a retractable red visor. The combat boots it has are also surprisingly stylish. Because it only provides light armor, Nameless has to be extra sneaky about fighting.
      • Armor's Weapons:
        • Orion's Bow & Quiver: A hardened bow made of dark ash wood & metal for reinforcement purposes. It charges whatever arrows are fired through it with a piercing energy, making it perfect for quick takedowns and piercing heavy armor. The quiver holds a good amount of arrows and can replenish itself over time (but good luck to her surviving until then). In case Nameless has to engage in melee combat, the bow can also be used as an impromptu quarterstaff, but honestly, she'd rather not.
        • Orion's Shield: When not in use, it collapses conveniently into a bracelet. When deployed, it's basically a riot shield that can act as an easy source of portable cover. A good thing for a sniper to have.
  • Ability: Having given up her name, Nameless can be spotted and marked down for future reference should her usual stealthy approach fail, but people will not be able to remember exactly what she looks like. Repeated sightings/encounters makes this effect fade, however. People with perception/memorizing abilities of a higher level than her can break through this ability easily and those of the same level can attempt to counter this ability with a little difficulty.
  • Personality: Despite basically being persona non grata, Nameless has managed to maintain a friendly and cheerful disposition, and generally tries to help other Celestials out if they're in trouble. Of course, she asks first—politeness is still important, no matter how trying to situation. Even if they don't remember her afterwards, everyone is working towards the same goals, so they should work together instead of fighting. She gravitates towards The Arrows because she likes the freedom the Sagittarius King grants its members while still stressing cooperation.
  • Bio: Nameless was just an ordinary girl who dreamed of being a famous hero someday, no matter how ridiculous it was. She joined the Game with the hopes of realizing her dream, but didn't expect her name to be taken. Initially dismayed, she resolved forthwith that even if she couldn't be a famous hero, she could still be a hero. Recently, there's been something of an Urban Legend in Otherworld—a mysterious, murky figure has been showing up, assisting with crucial Enemy takedowns, and then taking a small share of Umbrae as payment. Some people may remember talking with this figure, even though they can't exactly pin down what it looked like. Thus, the Nameless Hero was born...

Gaah, I would have been finished sooner but things got busy and then someone beat me to Orion. D:

  • Name: Lucas Black
  • Celestial Name: Corvus-122
  • Age: 24
  • Gender: Male
  • Level: 3
  • Union: Dominus
  • Appearance: Tall, pale, and somewhat on the gaunt side. Lucas used to dress professionally while on the police force, but since being sent home his attire has been much more... casual, although he at least tries to keep it neat. His black hair has grown long and somewhat shaggy, with bangs being long enough to cover his unfocused icy-blue eyes and dark eye bags.
  • Armor Appearance: With a mix of a dark black hooded robe and pale blue plate armor, Lucas's outfit looks like it was pulled straight out of an anime. His mask is a pitch-black visor, with light blue markings around the sides that dimly glow whenever he's not using his ability (see below)
  • Armor's Weapons: Corvus's weapon comes in the form of a set of jet-black pistols. Being part of the Otherworld, he never needs to reload them, and some swear they hear the cawing of crows with the gunshots when he attacks with them.
  • Ability: Having given up his sight, Lucas has gained a rather unusual form of clairvoyance. While in the Otherworld, Lucas can mark something with an eyelike sigil. While the symbol is unharmed, he can close his eyes and look through the sigil as if he were there. In addition, should one of the Enemies or another celestial come within the potential view of the symbol, he subconsciously knows to check that symbol immediately. This ability works anywhere in the Otherworld, but currently, it only works in the Otherworld — a Celestial wishing to destroy Lucas's sigils can do so easily while he's in the real world and he'll be none the wiser until he next returns to the Otherworld.
  • Personality: Lucas has always been quiet and driven, focusing on his goals to the point of nearly overworking himself, but since he joined the game, it's only gotten worse. He's grown increasingly agitated at his helplessness in the real world, and has begun withdrawing from it in favor of the game and the Otherworld. His sister, unaware of the game or the truth behind him vanishing without warning, is concerned he's on the verge of suicide, and considering how reckless he's getting in the game, she may not be that far off.
  • Bio:
    • Lucas thought he knew what he wanted to do with life. He always did well in studies and athletics, but ever since he was a kid, he wanted to join the police. His father had been one, after all, and he wished to follow in his footsteps and keep Waypoint City safe. Everything went as planned — he graduated police academy with honors and worked as a police officer before finally accepting a job as a police detective.
    • And then she met her. Maria Carolina Fernandez — better known by her pen name of Carol Jade — was a young and quickly-rising mystery writer, working with the Waypoint Police Department as research for a new series. In Lucas, she found her muse, and Lucas was similarly intrigued by her quick thinking. Within months, they ended up dating, and Lucas decided to propose to her six months ago.
    • She collapsed to the ground before he could pop the question. And at the hospital, worse news was to come. Carol was one of the first victims of the disease plaguing Waypoint. When she finally awoke, there was nothing left of the girl that had challenged and inspired him for so long. In her place was an empty shell, awake but without the will even to feed herself. Worse, the doctors didn't have a clue regarding what happened to her. The odds of her recovering are slim, they had said. You need to accept that for all intents and purposes... she's gone.
    • He didn't want to accept it, though. He promised he would protect her, no matter what the cost. He wouldn't give up on her. He couldn't. So when he got a text at three in the morning, from someone claiming to know what happened to her, and presenting a potential route to bring her back, in exchange for everything certain in his life... well, by that point he was desperate. He knew the price was high, but he figured that if it meant she would be herself again, he was willing to make the sacrifice.
    • However, Luke hasn't found it easy to adjust. Not to the reporters hounding him regarding Carol's condition. Not to being sent home to house rest while he adjusts to his new disability. And Capricorn's inability to reach level 10, even after going as far as taking out one of his fellow kings, is worming its way in, undermining his conviction that his sacrifices were enough. But he can't bring himself to admit that. Not yet. There has to be something everyone's missing. There's no way that he threw his future away for a fight with no end.
    • ...Right?

Let's do this.

@Loke: Edit is good. Accepted.

@Daniel: I'm not sure about this one. Your Prize is something that you personally cherish, and your guy spent his childhood AVOIDING pain. That's the only issue I have with this, though.

@Marine: No issue. Accepted.

@Bastion: No issue. Accepted.

@Nameleess: Uh, that's the exact issue I had with Loke. Literally the same thing. I have no problem with her gaining this ability at higher levels, but for now, this is a bit strong for level 2.

@Lucas: No issues. Accepted.

Alright, I will start the game around Friday-ish? Sign-ups will be open until I start.

  • Name: Douglas Burnley
  • Celestial Name: Fornax-013
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Male
  • Level: 3
  • Union: Dominus
  • Appearance: A boy that doesn't look well at all. With sunken light blue eyes, pale skin, bedraggled ashen hair, and a thin, underfed figure, he's more akin to a wraith than a person. It's hard to make out most of his frame though, since he's usually found wearing layers upon layers of sweaters, ponchos and just about anything that makes normal people warm. Small, about 5'3, and speaking with a voice more akin to a dry paint coming off walls than anything resembling human intonation. Covered in small burn marks, mostly from used up cigarettes.
  • Armor Appearance: Douglas's armor is more akin to a walking tank than smoother, sleeker forms of his peers. Blocky, with chimney-like appendages growing from its main body, it moves ponderously and with purpose, the earth shaking with each heavy step. In fact, "a walking furnace" is probably the most apt a description Fornax can have. Bristling with weaponry, it's not much for stealth or speed, but it more than makes up for it with its toughness and the ability to scale difficult terrain with its stumpy but stable legs.
  • Armor Weapons: An arm flamethrower, belching out pure white flame that crumbles flesh to dust and turns metal into molten slag. Its range is limited; to that end Douglas also has a smaller arm-mounted spitter that fires mid-range fireballs. These are nowhere near as destructive, but help with keeping an enemy in place while Fornax advances on their position.
  • Ability: Having given up an ability to feel warmth, Douglas is impervious to fire and chemicals, as well as high temperatures - numerous self-inflicted burn marks speak for themselves, staying around but never eliciting even a slightest response. This extends to his armor: a popular plan for melee combat is to warm up Fornax until it's red hot and then try to bearhug someone.
  • Personality: What was once an ordinary cheerful child is now a suicidal wreck. The snap decision to take away his warmth, interpreted by the malicious system as all kinds of warmth, has left Douglas hollow and unfeeling. Motivated solely for his plan to feel warmth one last time and having given up on the alternatives, he is nothing if not persistent in his quest, burning down things in his way as he goes. He has no sense of humor, no finer understanding of language games, but he is not impatient. Fornax's influence made him blunt and painfully direct: those who ally with him will get what they see.
  • Bio: Douglas always hated snow. Having been born in Alaska, it was something he had to come to grips with. The one bright side of living there was that every time he would return home, there would be the warmth of the household to keep him away from the white, from snowflakes and biting winds. Truth be told, the Douglas of today doesn't remember much of his childhood, only that it was good and slow... until the fire.
    • Their house went ablaze one fateful night. He remembers screaming, he remembers the smell of burning flesh, of charcoal and sulfur. The images caught in the flames seared into his eyes, and he could not possibly forget them, even if he wanted to. One by one, candles of life imploded. Douglas himself escaped the fire, miraculously unharmed - but the same could not be said of his parents and three younger siblings. As the screams died out and he knelt there in his PJ's, knee-deep in snow, he'd come to realize that the cold did not bother him one bit.
    • Having lost his immediate family, he had no choice but to move. His grandmother in Waypoint City, Washington, was the closest relative available. There, Douglas was catatonic long before The Enemy began feeding on the residents. When it was his turn to play the game, he didn't think for a second on what he would give away. Thus, the unfeeling colossus of flames was born, slowly prowling through The Otherworld, racking up kills on Enemy monsters with the same mechanical routine...
    • ...only to realize that a complete lack of warmth is, in fact, a downright unbearable experience. Not only was Douglas forced to wear layers upon layers to feel like someone would feel with a t-shirt on, something about his emotions too took a hit. Although he could no longer show it, he was horrified by the notion, but the game would not stop just because he had an epiphany. The only way to reverse this terrible price he paid would be to win the game - and go out in a literal blaze of glory...

Looks pretty nice, thought I'd give it a go and hope my character idea isn't too ultra garbage.

  • Name: Jason Oberwinch
    • Celestial Name: Betelgeuse 420
  • Age: 24
  • Gender: Male
  • Level: 2
  • Union: Unaligned
  • Appearance: Jason is a young adult from Germanic descent. His wild eyes are green and his blonde hair is fashioned in a mohawk. he's short and and he wears jeans along with a black shirt, with the logo of a local band on it. As a side effect of his sacrifice his face bares a constant grin.
    • Armor Appearance: Jason's armour manifests as a black leather jacket with an unnatural golden sheen and a pair of gold rimmed aviator sunglasses. He has serious doubts about whether said armour provides any actual defence and he hopes he won't find out soon
      • Armor's Weapons: An antique revolver with intricate engravings. It's powerful, and Jason found himself with an uncanny ability to spin and catch it, but not all of its chambers are loaded. In retrospect Jason probably shouldn't have picked a star known for its inconsistency and unpredictability.
  • Ability: When Jason had to pick something to give up, he reasoned that the rewards it gave were probably proportional to what you gave up, and that is exactly what he lost. Jason is now near incapable of reason, and acts almost exclusively on what he desires. Unfortunately for him, the game seemed to give nothing in return. Understandably feeling cheated and insulted, he now seeks to conquer this game in some misguided act of revenge. His inability to reason however, has left him not knowing when to quit, or even how to quit, and he will fight until his very last breath.
  • Personality: Before the game Jason was a nerd trying to be cool and in charge, but now he's an idiot trying to be cool and in charge despite him being horribly unfit for the role. He's about as quick to try and make friends as he is to try and kill them for their umbrae.
  • Bio: Jason grew up in a rather average home, and tried his best throughout his school years to seem cool though he mostly just came off as awkward. He never really had many friends, and while he tries to give off a lone wolf persona it was born from his response to people generally ignoring him, and not the other way around. He'd found a rather low paying job after getting out of college with decent grades and only mildly crippling debt. Then the crisis struck, and he found out both his parents had fallen into a catatonic state. He'd shut himself in for weeks on end, slowly eroding his mental stability, before he got the call. He had to save his family, and hopefully everyone else while he was at it, and gladly accepted whatever trials this game presented. That desire to save everyone quickly twisted into a very different one: end the game, the otherworld, and whatever sick creature created it.

@Douglas: No problems. Accepted.

@Jason: Alright. First of all, your armor is crafted from your prize - the weapon and ability you get are specifically from that. This just doesn't fit at all. You can't not have an ability, nor can your armor just...not be armor. This draws heavily from Kamen Rider. Secondly, I don't think someone can function without their reason, and especially with such a minor drawback. For now, without heavy overhauls, this is rejected.

• Name: Lillian Kroftholme

o Celestial Name: Gemini-354

• Age: 23

• Gender: Female

• Level: 1

• Union: Currently Unaligned

• Appearance: https://imgur.com/a/otA5ict (Her current appearance)

o Armor Appearance: Silver armor over a black bodysuit, with pieces of mirrors built into it.

 Armor's Weapons: α Geminorum (Castor), and β Geminorum (Pollux). Twin gigantic blades that float behind Lillian and follow her commands. Can break apart and attach to her arms as power gauntlets/fists. Can also break apart into mirror formations.

• Ability: Magic Mirrors – Lillian’s powers have to do with mirrors. Primarily the ability to treat any mirror, including the mirror formations created from Castor and Pollux, as a doorway to any other mirror within her range, effectively allowing her to teleport seamlessly. As she levels up, she would likely gain the ability to manipulate mirrors around her like she can Castor and Pollux, and even replicate herself through a mirror image.

• Personality: Independent, dependable, but rash, Lillian is a person who desires the best for what’s around her, as well as a good fight. She is hot blooded and will generally resort to force before diplomacy. Cares about her sister deeply, and laments not being as close to her recently as she could have been.

• Bio: Lillian Kroftholme grew up in a relatively peaceful home life, born the 1st of a pair of identical twins. Content to always be with her sister at an early age, she eventually grew to resent the way they would be treated as a set. Eventually, she started to differentiate herself as much as she could from her sister, trying to capture her own identity through the way she dressed, styled her hair, piercings, tattoos… anything. Eventually, she managed to break through in the boxing scene as a fierce in-fighter, and left her hometown for a time. One day, she received an odd text from a number sharing an area code with her hometown, asking if she wanted to play a game. She dismissed it initially, thinking it was spam. Eventually she was called home to find her sister had mysteriously fallen into a coma, with no reasonable medical explanation for why, except for the other mysterious cases that had been plaguing her hometown as of late. The only lead Lillian could find was a text on her sister’s phone. A message asking if she wanted to play a game. Knowing what she had to do, she answered the text, learning about the game and the grand prize involved… As well as the price required. She knew all too well what she would have to give, and gave it freely. As atonement for leaving her sister like she did. As a reminder of the wish she was aiming for, and the desire to find out what happened. Lillian gave up her appearance. Her ability to make herself look different from her sister.
