While it is a bit straight forward, I have had an oddly difficult time finding talk of or examples of that thing that happens in any given Horror/Thriller/Tense Action thing where in they are trying to open the door, start the car, etc. and the key just snaps in half like it was made of saltine cracker

It feels as if it would be a trope, given how often it is used, but I can't really find anything that references it or otherwise summarizes it. But then again I have always been bad at navigating this site

I don't remember examples of keys breaking in tense scenarios. The standard trope is Dangerous Key Fumble where they drop the keys.
