The Graveyard (Master Chief and Cortana)

Luffy's recent attack on the gravestone answers Chief's question about the unknown attack, and in snarky response to Bardock's comment, he says: "Not used to talking animals?"

As for Cortana, she quickly notices Bardock's looking down for some reason, and notes it for later. Considering the rumours she heard about the Oozaru... "Hm... Somehow I don't think that's right."

Graveyard

As Luffy drew closer, and gormlessly extended his hand to the beast, the wolf bared its teeth, snarled, opened its jaws- and was startled by the sudden rapid-fire shot to the rear. The wolf whipped around, gaze darting around for its assailant, then turned back around just in time to see Luffy block an elbow strike from Bardock. As much as it was possible for a wolf with eerie shining eyes, the wolf seemed confused. However, as the crew got distracted by the discovery of Banjo and Kazooie, the wolf saw its window and ran away, pausing on a slight incline to let out a howl before darting behind a grave and out of sight.

As the howl echoed around the graveyard, the already-crowded scene got itself some company. Inconspicuous mounds of dirt started to shift and pulse, as if several somethings were moving below the ground. Suddenly, over to the left, a sickly green arm burst up from below and gripped the ground tightly. Up from the loosened earth, something rotten and horrible pulled itself out from the soil. All around, the image repeated itself, as more and more demonic zombies popped out of the ground like horrible daisies.

If that wasn't bad enough, diabolical laughter rang out across the cemetery. Back up the way they'd come, galloping full tilt up the dirt road, was a terrible knight on a hideous steed, covered in armour from shoulders to toe, with a white-hot fire spewing out the place where its head should be. The headless horseman charged towards our heroes, and lowered its lance to make a super-sized shish kebab.

Swamp

The ghost below the water was caught off-guard by Ilulu's burst of boiling breath. While it didn't exactly seem hurt by the acid, a few bits of it seemed to flake off as it let go of her and flailed about, blinded by the bubbling pink. Hopefully, Spyro would be able to retrieve Ilulu before the phantom got its bearings.

Up on the surface, the other topielce were battered by Raz's psi-blasts, before one was gutted by Alabama and another was frozen solid by Spyro. The one hounding Alabama still gripped her arms as tightly as it could, trying to drag her under even as its perforated body collapsed on itself. Another topielec tried to throw itself on top of Amy and pull her below, and if those dark shapes moving in the mist were any indication, there were more vengeful spirits on the way.

Hinata — The Woods

The wolf had run away, but in its wake it had left behind creatures that Hinata could barely understand. Undead? She wasn't sure, as she'd never encountered such a thing before. Not like this. The charge from the flaming knight caused her to freeze up momentarily in fear, before her form suddenly disappeared in a puff of smoke—leaving behind a single chunk of log ripped out from a nearby tree to get impaled instead.

Hiding behind said tree for a moment, she peered at the zombie-like creatures using her Byakugan, trying to ascertain any weaknesses she could exploit. Soon clambering up into the higher branches, she balanced out as far as she could on the sturdiest limb of the tree she could dare to, before leaping off of it with a burst of chakra and aiming to squash one of the monsters beneath her using her foot.

She was too light to manage it through raw strength, but with careful application of her Gentle Fist it was plausible. She wouldn't stick around after the deed, either—intending to immediately move on to the nearest of the creature's buddies in order to pepper it with disabling blows.

If they even had a physical structure to disable. She guessed she'd soon find out either way.

Razputin — The Swamp

“Agh! More's coming!” Raz helpfully cried out upon noticing the ominous shades beginning to take the place of the fallen topielce, and soon hopped back over to shallow waters as he resumed firing at the remaining creatures. “Hold on, lady! I gotcha!”

A spectral, orange-tinted hand manifested over Alabama as Raz momentarily ceased firing, tugging at the topielce grappling her in such a way that she could possibly wriggle free of it. If it succeeded in this, it'd disappear after the fact to allow Raz to keep firing his blasts. Otherwise, he was pretty open to attack in that moment of trying to help.

Koushiro & Tentomon - Graveyard

The braying of a horse dragged Koushiro's attention away from the debacle with the wolf, and he watched in alarm as the creature bucked up and deposited its rider into the dirt. "Ah, Shoto..!"

He took a step towards the fellow mage but froze as a chilling howl pierced the air, followed quickly by the rumble of the earth beneath them. Tentomon flew closer to his partner as the corpses of the dead rose up from beneath the earth, the sight and smell of their decay worse than anything Koushiro could have imagined from studying the undead in a cosy classroom. His throat bobbed as he swallowed nervously, his attention stolen once again by the headless rider that stood at the head of the shambling hoarde.

And yet, that fear of his seemed to melt away quickly as his brain kicked into gear. He took stock of the group's current state and the amount of undead that surrounded them. "Tentomon," he said, slipping back into his native Ongoroan without noticing. "Please assist Shoto-san."

"Eh? Uh, sure thing, but what abo-"

Tentomon was interrupted by the quiet whump of the Psyodex being opened, and knew he'd be wasting his time if he tried to pry further. Instead he flew over to Shoto's side, light flickering beneath his shell until it burst forth in a jagged line of electricity that shot towards the nearest undead. "Ya doin' alright, Shoto-han? Might'n be best if ya get yer horsey friend under con- Koushiro-han?!"

The young boy, in defiance of Bardock's command to stay behind Chief, had instead rushed to the front of the group, placing himself between the headless rider and Luffy, Bardock, and the others. He brought up his hands and held between them was his codex, cracked open to a page with PsyoCode that glowed with an ethereal white light.

Like with the boar before, the light grew until it exploded from the pages with an intense radiance. It was, of course, sheer idiocy to assume that a bright light would affect a creature without eyes- instead, Koushiro was confident that the rider, summoned to a graveyard by a demonic howl, wouldn't take too kindly to the light's holy properties.

Graveyard (Master Chief and Cortana)

The Master Chief had experienced many years of war against the Covenant, as the greatest of the Spartan Order, and as such had seen many, many things in his adventures. However, none had quite compared to the sheer absurdity of what had just occurred before him and his new comrades. This one was, for lack of a better word, alien to him.

Cortana had the exact same sentiments, as she grew alarmed by noting the very clearly increasing amount of pings that were recognised by Chief's situation-awareness spell. "Multiple contacts! They're coming from the ground, Chief!"

Chief's response is to raise his gun, but then he notices Koushiro run ahead with his Psyodex. "Kid, stay back!" the Spartan calls out before opening up with his assault rifle, switching targets as he guns down any undead he can see. It's not long before Chief spots the headless horseman himself, and quickly realising Koushiro's attempt at a risky move, he takes his right hand off the rifle and, still holding the rifle on its underside grip with his left hand, he reaches for his sidearm, aims at the horseman and squeezes the trigger, sending a quick burst of bullets his way.

"Where'd the wolf go, Cortana?"

"It's gone, but it can't have gone far!"

While Cortana kept looking through her machine-spirit senses, Chief attempts to move in front of Koushiro, intending to take the brunt of whatever assault the horseman has for the kid.

Being thrown from a horse was, understandably, not fun for Shoto. He was pretty dazed afterwards, not reacting to much until Tentomon was dispatched to his side. Immediately, he groaned and pulled himself up to sit, expression distant.

"What's... happening?" he muttered, eyes flickering between the chaos. His horse was still making a fuss, neighing and stomping its feet. At least it wasn't running yet.

Luffy looked incensed at Bardock, pouting slightly.

"I'm blamin' you for this, y'know. You and the talkin' bear!"

Then, the dead began to rose from their graves, moaning and groaning as they clawed their way to the surface.

Blinking a few times, a bit befuddled, Luffy proceeded to walk right over and push a zombie right back into its grave.

"There we go-"

This change of position was fortunate, as the ethereal horseman charged right past him, blowing a cold gust of wind behind him that blew his hat right off his head.

"...Huh? GYAAAH!"

Suddenly panicked, he quickly shot his arm out to grab the hat and clutched it to his chest, looking towards the horseman with an annoyed glare.

"Oi! You almost made me lose my hat, you bastard!"

He turned towards the horseman, and shot his arms out at him, stretching them in an attempt to grab the phantom by the shoulders.

"Oh." Jake would glance towards Tetra as she asked a ride in exchange of, uh, ignoring the whole 'I'm actually a dragon' thing. Honestly? He'll take it with no hesitation whatsoever! Better keep the whole thing hush-hush, after all.

"Heck, I'll take it! All aboard the Jake-train!" Jake would crouch down slightly to help Tetra climb onto her back. Once she was fully holding on to him, he would then start taking off in the air, allowing Tetra to get a bird's-eye view of where they were going, and all the paths.

"Grey Room of Despair...Howling Halls of Derilium. Man. Talk about pleasant places, huh?" His slitted eyes squinted as he was looking at the signs and the roads around.

Jake would then a barrage of dragon fire to the nearest watery ghosts that were trying to get his hands on him, and if that wasn't enough, he would try to hit them with some good tail whipping. "Oh hells..." Damar said, grabbing his pistol, and adjusting its setting to "Thermal". "Stun" and "Kill" wouldn't work against undead like this, and repeatedly firing it on "Vaporize" ran the risk of either temporarily draining or overloading it. Besides, fire usually did a good job putting the undead back to rest. He fired a few more shots off at the attacking zombies, before hopping back on Saltek's back, the riding hound now snarling and snapping at the undead attackers.

"Guh!" Banjo yelped at the sudden invasion of the undead and the headless rider. Taking off at a brisk run, the bear clambered up onto the highest vantage point he could find, which happened to be another gravestone. "Kazooie, you're on!"

Spyro and Sparx-Swamped

His ice breath did manage to take the heat off somewhat as Spyro dove towards Ilulu. It looked like her fiery breath had actually managed to stun the ghost, which, Great. Ilulu didn't seem to be doing anything to get out of the water though, which, Not Great. Her injuries from the fight with Tohru acting up, maybe?

Swimming up to Ilulu, Spyro snapped out a quick "Let's take this fight back up top, shall we?", (his voice easily heard through the water, and if it sounded slightly concerned, well). He then started lifting Ilulu back up through the water, his hands under her armpits as he swam upwards. Man, why is she so heavy!?

Meanwhile, above the water, Sparx was in even more of a panic than he'd been even seconds ago, as he had now turned a sickly green color. What was going on down there!? As soon as Sparx had asked himself that question though, Spyro resurfaced with Ilulu, and started swimming for what solid land there was.

Graveyard (Bardock)

"Gotta be kidding me...Chief, forget what I said! Light 'em up!"

Ignoring Luffy completely, the Saiyan father surveys the area, seeing Hinata and Koushiro holding their own but Shoto relatively defenseless save for (as far as Bardock knew) a bug with delusions of grandeur. Bardock turns back towards the knight, glaring at the annoying laugh.

"Grrr...shut your mouth!"

Flipping backwards, Bardock launches an energy wave at the knight, landing next to Shoto shortly afterwards.

"Might wanna get on your feet, kid. They're getting closer."

Unfortunately, Bardock doesn't have much experience with horses, or he'd try and do something to try and calm Shoto's down.

Swamp (Ilulu)

Ilulu flails for a second before realizing who exactly grabbed her...before flailing harder, gasping as she and Spyro breach the surface.

"I didn't...need your help, Harmony cur! Let...go...of...me...! My poison flame was already melting it!"

...That explains why Sparx is panicking! The water's filled with burning poison acid!

"I should've known this was a trap set by you and your human pet! Well, if these are human ghosts..."

Ilulu suddenly shoots up into the air, her upper torso glowing a burning red as she takes a deep breath.

"Let's see if they can die again!"

The petite dragon opens her mouth wider than any human would be capable of, a veritable carpet-bombing of fireballs bursting from her gaping maw. While they're mostly focused on the drowned corpses...evasive action is recommended for all involved.

Alabama - The Swamp

Flicking her restrained arm sharply away from her body Alabama managed to free her arm in time to hear Ilulu's outburst and see the flames coming down on the group. Her smaller guns whirled around and started firing at any flames that got close to her and the others while leaving any going for the ghosts alone.

Shooting an annoyed glare at Ilulu Alabama says, "Can you try and be a bit more accurate with the flames, I don't want to be caught up in an explosion" Alabama seeing one of the fireballs heading for Raz rushes over to him and puts him under her left arm before moving to put him on a much more solid surface that would allow him to dodge the remaining flames.

Tetra- Chaos Realm

Tetra hadn't ever been taught how to ride so her ascent onto Jake's back was a little awkward, a scramble up rather than a proper mounting. She also clung a little too tightly to his scales when he first set off from the ground, an in-built fear of losing her balance and toppling off the side. Once they were in the air and moving steadily, however, her grip lessened. It wasn't too dissimilar to straddling a yard while sailing. Heck, what was flying but sailing without water?

By the time they reached the sign, Tetra had settled in nicely to her new seat. "Whoever named them clearly wasn't looking for visitors." she said in reply to Jake, squinting down at the signs in question. "Well, not like we're here to sightsee anyway. To the Threshold of Desire we go."

One of the other names stuck in her head, and she let it tumble around in there for a few moments before deciding there was no harm in letting out the resultant thought. "Oi, NiGHTS. You said you were born from dreams, or something like that? Any relation?" She waved her arm in the vague direction of where, presumably, the Ghost Castle of Dream resided.

Hinata's byakugan saw right through the rotten bodies of the zombies. Their chakra pathway systems were disjointed and crumbling, but present nonetheless. Looking close enough, she might even have seen the rotten flesh bunched around the lines, drawn to them like metal filings to a magnet. The energy could well have been the only thing keeping their decaying bodies together. The Horseman, however, was a different story. His tough armour was almost as hard to see through as a solid wall, and from the torrents of energy that surged through his system, it seemed he'd put up far more of a fight.

Hinata's first strike took the target zombie off-guard, and there was a horrid squelching sound as it crumpled under her blow. The zombie to his side was next, and fell back limp as a ragdoll under her disabling blows. The other zombies took notice and started lumbering towards her. One took a swipe, the other aimed a headbutt. If she wasn't careful, she'd end up getting crowded, and her previous victims were already starting to pull themselves together. The other zombies were, for now, held at bay by the barrage of lightning and artillery fire. Damar's thermal and Kazooie's burning eggs seemed to have the greatest effect, as the zombies went from going on the attack to flailing in panic at being lit on fire.

At the burst of holy light, the Horseman's horse skidded to a halt and reared up with a frightened whinny. The rider struggled to keep balance and shook his fist as he called out some ancient curse words. Master Chief's rounds let out resounding clangs as they dented his heavy armour, and the pull of Luffy's arms threatened to pull him right around. Suddenly, the Horseman turned on his steed, and using the momentum of Luffy's elastic pull, charged back the other way to run the pirate through. This was promptly foiled by the energy wave that knocked him sideways. Pinned to the ground and completely fed up, the Horseman re-gripped his lance at the middle and flung it like a javelin at Bardock's chest.

Strangely, the wolf creature seemed to have vanished from Cortana's radar. What did show up in that general direction was a humanoid shape, just between a gravestone and the rotten remains of an old tree. Sure enough, a figure unsteadily rose up from that very spot like a puppet on a string. It was dressed from head to toe in the moth-eaten uniform of a Confederate Lekhitian General, complete with a wide-brimmed hat and a cape. It too had golden shimmering eyes, along with a white bushy beard and unnaturally pale skin. "GO!" it cawed in a rasping voice. "GO! GO BACK! LEAVE THIS PLACE!"

The topielec in Raz's grip flailed at the air, caught off guard by being grabbed by something not entirely there. Amy's ghost went splat at the blow and was too busy reconstituting to grip her again. The same went for the victims of Gundham's own shillelagh. Jake's victims crumpled at the fire breath, letting off steam in more ways than one. But the biggest blow of all came from Ilulu and the rain of fire she unleashed upon the scene. The air was soon filled with scalding steam, along with the hiss of evaporating water, the wails of distressed spirits, and the occasional deafening bang of gas pockets further out. The Topielce quickly retreated to the cooler depths below. Now all our heroes had to worry about was the collateral damage from Ilulu's all-out attack.

Chaosrealm

Sure enough, the trail of the soul led onward towards the Threshold of Desire. It seemed like the team was well on its way to finding their old comrade...but what was that strange whistling sound, getting louder and louder as it came? All of a sudden, something big slammed down in front of them, sending up waves of many-coloured sand into their face. As the desert sands settled, they found themselves facing an armoured figure, about the size of Ahriman himself, who slowly rose to his full height from a three-point landing. To those with a mystic eye, this figure was stained all over from chaotic residue, yet carried an aura that positively THRUMMED with Order Magic.

The armour was grey, pitted and stained over countless years of use, with greaves and pauldrons each the size of a small child, and every plate layered in iconographies like skulls and books, and gold text reading such slogans as REPENT, DAEMON, STRIKE, SMITE, GLORY and EMPRESS. A red and white cloth draped from his waist to his ankles, and a hardcover book was chained to his hip. His helmet was peaked at the front, with cold blue eyes shining from within, and a golden rosette of a stylised collum, with a skull in the middle, on his brow. In one hand was a glowing blue sword, that crackled with the raw mystic energy. In the other was a shield almost as tall as himself, decorated with ancient text and, you've guessed it, another skull. From his back jutted a standard pole with golden skulls at the top, below which hung a flag that fluttered in the wind, depicting a halo-wreathed open book pierced by a gold-hilted blade, and a banner that proudly displayed the name "KALDOR DRAIGO".

"Hither ends thy journey, Foul Sorcerer."

They're reviving...! Hinata realised, solidly headbutting the zombie aiming to do the same to her before striking the arm of the one slashing at her, breaking it at the elbow. She then backflipped away to gain some distance, before absentmindedly tossing a kunai into another zombie's neck for good measure.

...I don't want to be alone, she decided, backing off before running to rejoin the others. I can't just fight these guys while everyone's struggling...!

Taking a note from Rock Lee, she chose a dynamic entry as she focused a large spike of chakra into the knight's armour at the base of his spine, flipping over his mount before performing a rapid kawarimi to position herself back behind the rest of the group fighting the knight.

“I-I'll support you!” she declared as she peppered a stray zombie with strikes, kicking it away with a tiny smile delivered towards the others before she nodded at the knight. “W-We need to take him down... d-do we have a plan...?”

Graveyard (Bardock)

As he was looking at Shoto, Bardock turns back towards the knight just in time to see the lance flying towards him. Gathering ki in both hands, Bardock closes them both together in front of his chest, sliding back a bit across the ground as he blocks and catches the impromptu projectile.

"Nice...try...here, I think you dropped this!"

Bardock rears his arm back and hurls the lance in the same manner the knight did, right back at its owner.

The Saiyan surveys the battlefield, taking stock of the regenerating zombies, the sudden appearance of the general and his allies' capabilities.

"...Chief, Hinata, you do crowd control. Chief’s got long range, Hinata’s fast, you two keep the small ones back. Old Guy and Small Child-"

He turns to Gandalf and Koushiro, noticing the wizard's staff and ring.

"I hope you've got some magic tricks to keep Headless there busy. Kid..."

Bardock looks back at Shoto now.

"Try to get your horse under control. They get close to Hinata or Chief, freeze them solid. And, you, idiot."

This time he's pointing right at Luffy.

"You, me and the Yordle Brain Trust go after the general, assuming you're right about him. Knight's a secondary priority if the senior citizen and the toddler can't keep him back. That's our plan. Anyone opposed?"

Swamp (Ilulu)

"Haha! Nice try, humans! I'm not falling for any more tricks! Another victory for the Chaos..."

The tiny dragon suddenly looks exhausted, her position in the air looking shakier by the second.

"Just gonna...nap...real quick...reckoning's gonna...happen when I...wake up..."

And with that, Ilulu starts plummeting straight out of the sky towards her "allies."

Hinata – The Woods

“Hai!” Hinata quickly responded in agreement to Bardock's direction, and after taking position near to Master Chief she made to take care of any zombies that managed to slip past his shots. The Gentle Fist had some techniques to push others back, though she was trusting in the others to take over when she got exhausted.

Though to her surprise, it was starting to feel easier to perform these techniques than before.

Am I... improving...?

Razputin – The Swamp

“Ah! Dragon lady! Stop spewing out your... fire,” Raz blinked as Ilulu's attack successfully repelled the spirits, and lifted his goggles in slight surprise once he was set down by Alabama. “Oookay. Can— can someone catch her? I'm ten! And not very strong!”

Plus getting crushed by those things would be hecking embarrassing.

Graveyard

The second Bardock turned to address Luffy, he would find that he was already mid-flight, Gum-Gum Rocketting right at the ghostly General like a ballistic rubber missile.

"I'm gonna send your spectral ass flying STRAIGHT to Heaven!!"

Gundham, Swamp

Though the malign spirits had been taken care of, there was one issue that remained. Ilulu was falling out of the sky and someone needed to act quickly to help her. Gundham sprinted over and caught the falling dragon - though it wasn't exactly the smoothest operation, as he ended up being knocked over from the impact.

"By the fires of Jigoku!" he muttered. "To think so much mass could be within such a small frame... this dragon caught even me off-guard..."

He got up and dusted himself off.
