It's very similar in execution, and has pretty much the same purpose.
On the other hand, mirrors have a lot of symbolical baggage, in particular the uncertainty that it's real, and the door variant lacks the "behind you" aspect which increases the scare factor.
Probably a case of Lumper vs. Splitter. I'd probably say split if there are enough cases (at least ~10-15) of the door variant, or if there's a good argument either way.

I noticed a variant of Mirror Scare where characters pop up for shock value behind doors being closed, typically fridge doors, demonstration here. It does not involve reflections which is a must according to the description of Mirror Scare. Would you think this makes for a new trope or should Mirror Scare be expanded?
