"Demons... That is an interesting way to think of the evil, though it seems the term has meant a few different things throughout the history of your species. I suppose in the intended effect, it is not an incorrect one to use" the goddess' voice said telepathically to the girls. "The corruption the evil uses upon you is simply one means to its ends. It is not a part of its ultimate goal" the deity added.
For those looking around, there were some flocks of birds scattering from the trees. Around the army especially, it was clear the birds had little interest in sticking around the huge mass of moving horses and men; but elsewhere there were birds scattering too.

"Let's head down there then, before the army spreads around. Maybe we can clean up before they even know there were monsters here," Ike suggested, before grabbing her gun and transforming. Sheriff adjusted her hat and used their elevated position to survey the land. The wildlife was predictably scattering form the large amount of people nearby, but the birds were also disturbed in a different area.
"That might be a sign," Sheriff said, pointing out the spots in the valley where the army hadn't reached. "Something might be moving around there."
Once she was transformed, Ike could feel that odd sense of having a feeling where something was despite having no other means of knowing. However, unlike the beasts at the trenches, where it was so certain and precise, this time the feelings were more vague, aiming to general areas rather than specific points, and feeling more like, 'there's maybe something over there', as opposed to being definite. There were eight of these 'feelings' throughout the surrounding hillsides, at various points in nearly all directions; one of them was indeed where Ike had seen those birds scattering.
"It seems you're right. Remember, all of the evil of this time will know you are here as soon as you encounter any of them. Even if you eliminate one by complete surprise, the others will still know that it has perished, and where; since no mortal means can defeat them, the only possibility they would have to think of is you" the goddess reminded the girls telepathically.

"So it would be reasonable to assume that those monsters would look around where one of their own fell," Camille half-murmured. With that bit of information, the last part of a scheme clicked in her mind.
"How about we single out and eliminate one of them, hide and wait for the others to investigate, and then ambush them? Well, that depends if we can find one of them, and if they're simple enough to just look around anywhere suspicious...I could take care of the first one though."
With that, Camille transformed and ordered Gamma to take a look at the bird disturbance away from the approaching army. Gamma faded out of view, and flew off with an afterburner boom.
Timers to measure time, thermometers to measure thermomets, mometers to measure mom, and measuring containers to measure measurements. The weather in this place was a lot more similar to what Koko was used to seeing, although there were a little too many trees in the distance. It was still the future, but clearly before that terrible winter they had just witnessed.
A massive army, almost dwarfing the previous ones, slowly marched through the landscape. The most impressive thing about them, though was their method of transportation. They had taken what looked like deers and managed to make them obey their orders. So much so none of them tried to escape. Knowing how prone to fighting they could be Koko was beyond impressed. To say nothing of the massive amounts of food all these must have at their disposal. It was intriguing to wonder how people had managed to raise their numbers so high and Koko wanted to know the secret. It could come in handy.
But back to what was important: Protecting said army and really, everyone else. The shadows were around here, that much was obvious. And transforming more than confirmed it. Their number was higher than before and they cared more about stealth than last time. Of course. The army was a tempting objective for them. Koko had seen first hand how they could turn siblings against each other. It was worth a try to minimize the bloodshed, and getting a few allies of their own didn't hurt either.
"lure away from them?"
Hiromi punched her right palm. Her red glove transformed into a metal gauntlet and her uniform dissolved in a ball of light, then replaced by a karate gi. The display on the gauntlet briefly flashed: Steelheart.
"If the demons are drawn to us, then I think they will sense our presence better if we all transform."

"Hold on, we can do one better than that, I think," Sheriff said to Camille. "How about we split and hunt as many down as possible? Then we all attack at the same time and take more out before we lose our element of surprise? We can coordinate with this uh..." She pulled out her gun and inspected it. "Mind radio thing. Mustang can connect us and we can talk in our heads." Koko brought up another plan: Standing out on purpose to lure the monsters away from the village. It could overwhelm the group, but it might also keep the army out of the fight. "That's...also a plan. Transform, kill one, and then run to see if they chase us."
"Your enemies cannot sense you at a range the way you can sense them; or at least, if any of them can, I am not aware of it" the goddess said to the girls telepathically. "If you purposely want them to know where you are... You could fly up into the air and make a large display of magic in the open. It is clear these beasts of the evil are keeping watch of the army; I cannot imagine they would miss it if you made such a move" the deity advised, in regards to some of their ideas, then added, "though the army of men would also almost certainly see it."
Elsewhere, the forest canopy was difficult for Gamma to see down through, and there was no obvious sign yet of any evil beast when he arrived at the area the birds had flown from. He could try flying down between the trees for a better look, but he'd be risking the monster seeing him in return, if it hadn't already.

Camille tiled her head. "...come to think of it, yeah it would be better if the monsters just came to us." On that note, she signalled to Gamma to return to her position.
"And I certainly can do 'large display of magic', just hold on while I do my thing," she said, her skirt-guns whirring up to fire up Floating Point. "Just tell me if I shouldn't just do this, it might take a while anyway."
Timers to measure time, thermometers to measure thermomets, mometers to measure mom, and measuring containers to measure measurements."Wouldn't the display of magic attract the attention of the army as well?" Hiromi said.
Where there's life, there's hope."You shouldn't decide for each other; you should come to an agreement" the goddess telepathically said to the girls. "Maybe it would help to find out more first. We still don't know exactly what the evil has here" the deity then suggested.
One of the vague signals of an evil creature, almost opposite of the direction of the army to where the girls were, was on the move. It was moving up another hillside, past a few ridges from the girls' current position.

Hiromi was startled. She felt the goosebumps popping on her back. She turned to Iolanthe. "Did... did you feel that. Just briefly, I thought a demon was near."
Where there's life, there's hope.
Hiromi pondered a little and said. "Hmm, the demons would like to find someone to corrupt, so if they were around here they would head straight to the Mongol army, but from which direction, I don't know."
