Looks like some movie costumes are incoming.

I’m particularly hyped for Lambert Raiden.

And IT IS GLORIOUS!

Btw, have you noticed that Sonya's got no new lines with the new DLC? I guess Rousey wasn't available to record anything new

Also the same case with Tagawa as Tsung. A lot of his dialogues are recycled, which is a damn shame. Kinda confusing why this is the case since they can afford Stallone until I notice a lot of Rambo's dialogue are actually broad. On top of that, a lot of his interaction is kinda repetitive.

Speaking of which, I don't like Rambo's dialogue as much I wanted to. While I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to the Rambo series I'm just as ignorant when it comes to Robocop's & I still thought his dialogues in comparison were better. Robocop also fits in the M Kverse more naturally than Rambo. I go as far as to say that Rambo is arguably the most out of place character in the roster.

Given that they went several years of being able to pay for six extra voice lines per each pre-existing character every time a new DLC character came out, plus the ones for the new character - gotta be hundreds of new lines with every release at this point - I'm kind of impressed it only took them until now to run out of either budget or opportunity to procure new voice lines.

Yes

It's exciting that they really are pulling from every part of the franchise's history with this game, yet, it's disappointing because this is probably going to be the last Mortal Kombat.

I guess gaming is evolving to the point where new releases < continually updated masterpieces. Smash Ultimate, the constant re-dos of Street Fighter, freaking World of Warcraft.

I can't see MK 12 topping 11. So I hope they go whole hog with this and grab the guys from MK Conquest:

  • Paolo Montalban (The Great Kung Lao, and the only guy to do anything)
  • Jeffrey Meek (Raiden)
  • Daniel Bernhardt (Siro the useless bodyguard b-tch)
  • Kristanna Laken (Taja, the other useless b-tch)

Sure they got their backsides handed to them every episode but if we have the live-action movie actors getting in on this, I think the TV actors deserve a shot. Low production values aside, I kind of liked Conquest and wish it had ended properly. Though, I headcanon it as another aborted timeline.

[up][up] You think that they made a game more successful than any other game in the franchise and they’re just going to...stop making them?

MK11 is getting some extra attention because it’s straddling a console generation line, and probably COVID has slowed down Injustice 3’s inevitable development.

And none of the examples you used of continually updating games being the new normal make any sense. World of Warcraft is an MMO. Street Fighter II has been continuously updated since basically the day it came out in the early ‘90s. And Nintendo has never released more than one Super Smash Bros. game per system so I don’t know what you think they’d be doing instead right now if not DLC.

I think they will probably take a break after Injustice 3 wraps up development and make something else instead of another MK but that doesn't mean they will stop the franchise with this game.

We’re going to get Injustice 3, and that’s probably going to be a three year cycle thanks to COVID. On the plus side it will probably be built for the new console generation from the ground up.

Also we’re probably getting Batman Who Laughs.

I'm genuinely curious, especially in light of [up][up][up], what the logic is for such a statement, ~FOFD. Is the Jumping the Shark pothole supposed to suggest that MK 12 won't be a real MK game for some reason?

You think that they made a game more successful than any other game in the franchise and they’re just going to...stop making them?

Ok it's hyperbolic for me to say they'll outright stop, but at this point I bet they'll re-brand, or start making VR reboots or something, or start a MOBA, or focus on Injustice. Because they've pumped up 11 so much that anything 12 could do will be disappointing by comparison.

What is MK 12 going to do? Bring us the Deadly Alliance storyline with Onaga. Reintroduce beloved characters like Li Mei, Taven, and Daegon? Give us six variations instead of three?

What could possibly top having Robocop, Rambo, Spawn, The Joker, and even the movie actors in Mortal Kombat? It seems like they're pumping most of the things fans like about the franchise into this series as if this game were a swansong for the franchise.

And none of the examples you used of continually updating games being the new normal make any sense.

The first two contribute to this being the new normal, and Smash Bros Ultimate seems to be on a larger DLC kick than Smash U or Brawl. Street Fighter, World of Warcraft, and Ultimate's success create a precedent that it's easier to just keep updating a game instead of making new installments like Assassins Creed or COD - look at all of the MOBA's, rereleases, and remakes we have now.

It could be because of COVID, but I'd wager we won't see MK 12, or Smash 6 for a good long while even after things get back to normal. Because it makes a hell lot more sense to take "the most successful Mortal Kombat" and keep updating that than to write themselves out of the corner they wrote themselves into with 11, or try to update/implement drastically new features to 11's engine for 12.

Is the Jumping the Shark pothole supposed to suggest that MK 12 won't be a real MK game for some reason?

They are Jumping the Shark with 11 and all of these updates for it. They've doomed themselves through their own success.

The only dumb thing about MK 11 is the retcon galore and how they cannot consistently keep one character's characterization consistent. Plus a whole lot of missed oportunities

MK’s Dork Age had a lot of losers, we really don’t need them all back. No one’s frothing out the mouth for Jarek or Dairou.

Good god, this is such an improvement up from Demetri Vegas.

Bridgette Wilson's performance sounds off for some reason. Sometimes she barely sounds better than Rousey. Compare to her actual performance in the movies this kinda a step-down but I'm not done listening to all her interaction.

Asby & Lambert still sounds as good as I remember them. I especially like Ashby goes the extra mile to distinguish himself from Bowen.

Now if only they can get Robin Shou to reprise his role as Liu Kang.

What is MK 12 going to do? Bring us the Deadly Alliance storyline with Onaga. Reintroduce beloved characters like Li Mei, Taven, and Daegon? Give us six variations instead of three?
I'm more than willing to buy another MK game that gives the 3D era a chance. Especially for Taven who I still think has the potential to be an engaging character.

What could possibly top having Robocop, Rambo, Spawn, The Joker, and even the movie actors in Mortal Kombat? It seems like they're pumping most of the things fans like about the franchise into this series as if this game were a swansong for the franchise.

Predator & Alien aren't in the game. For that matter, they're still missing fan-favorite Reptile & Quan Chi. They're still plenty of things left for the franchise.

They are Jumping the Shark with 11 and all of these updates for it. They've doomed themselves through their own success.

There's still a lot of things people prefer in MK X over 11. Namely that X is a faster game.

Man, poor Christopher Lambert. The years have not been kind to his voice sad

It's definitely more guttural for sure, but he still sounds great to me.

I dunno. Not sure that worked out so well for Armageddon.

Armageddon was basically what MVC 2 would be if people didn't like it.

I believe they can do it, but there's a lot of effort they would like to have.
