[up][up]What chapter is that?

Disgusted, but not surprised

Something like chapter 30-35 of the web novel. Dunno about the light novel, probably not in the manga yet unless the translation group is like ten chapters behind.

Starting to get kinda bored. I don't know if I want to keep following this one. The protagonist is kind of dumb and the story seems weirdly obsessed with potion making rather than romance, the otome game subplot, the monsters or anything else you might expect it to focus on. I really can't say I care if Sei ever manages to make a Master HP potion or whatever.

Finished third volume of Defeating the Demon Lord’s a Cinch. It's really fun. High level Crusader (basically Paladin), have order to support Hero's party... even though hero kicked him out on account only wanting girls in his party. Hilarity Ensues

Hero is reverse trap and suffer androphobia

So The Villainess Is Adored by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom chapter 2 - the Prince she was engaged with is a douche, and also an idiot who thinks with his dick. The "Heroine" is quite obviously a manipulative bitch and not even a very good one (luckily for her the Prince is an idiot), but probably the biggest facepalm goes to the King, who literally sees his idiot son make enemy of the Prime Minister and most powerful noble in the country by annulling engagement with his daughter and fucking banishing her, something that in the worst case scenario could lead to a civil war... and just kind of stares. Though maybe his brain just can't process how much of a dumbass his son is being.

Thankfully the main character manages to present her side of the story which exposes to everyone how bad the Prince and his new girl are, and is proposed on the spot by a much cooler Prince of a more powerful country, that she seems to have a love at first sight thing going on. So things are looking up for her at least.

Woops, I started complaining when I meant to only respond. Yes, the king was just stunned by his son being a moron. A kind of "wait wait WHAT IS THIS MORON THINKING NOOOOOO" reaction because he's a really nice guy. The fallout of this scene is pretty interesting for pretty much every character present here.

Anyway the complaints amounted to 'don't bother reading past the first arc.' All the drama fizzles out and it doesn't feel like there's any reason the story should still be going on after that.

Oh, good to know that the King is as stupid as his son. I was worried because in those stories, the kings are usually weirdly okay with their teenage sons alienating their close allies to marry a commoner.

I would like once to read an Otome Isekai where the "Villaines" is actually a princess of another country, and the engagement was a means of solidifying between the two nations, so the prince breaking the engagement results in a war between them. Which I think would be fun. Also bonus points if he tries to "banish" her only for her to go "bitch I have my own kingdom!".

Anyway, looking forward to the next chapter at least since I'm curious about the fallout of this you mentioned. Even if it goes on for longer than it should have, this first arc at least is very good.

Shlugo: There's a LN like that. The Last Boss Witch Will Love Her Past Life's Crush Until Her Dying Day or something. The prince was supposed to have a political marriage with the leader of the witches note  but annuls it publicly right during the ceremony because of his girlfriend's prophecy. The MC knew it was coming because of magic and keeps her calm, totally flipping the situation and getting through totally unscathed while the Crown Prince loses his succession rights, iirc. She then takes his best knight as as the kingdom's reparations and goes home. The knight hates her and all witches but she loves him, sorta, so she decides to make him her toy and turn him to her side.

She might still be evil though. It's not totally clear. It's strongly implied she turned evil in the original story because she was tortured by her mom her whole life and eventually snapped, but because she knew she only had to bear it for another two years she might have stayed sane? She's still a huge S though.

[up][up] It's implied that the "heroine" was isekaied herself right? There was a scene where the MC ponders a bit about her name.

Yeah, she's a reincarnator too. Remember her calling Tiararose's friends her followers? That's how you'd refer to the mob characters that follow the villainess in an otome game. I don't know if the manga got that across properly but in the LN it was quite clear in this scene what Akari meant.

Can't remember the thread of the discussion, but I never could get into Re:Zero. It just felt so...misanthropic in a way. It was REALLY not helped by the sheer amount of glee some posters in another thread I follow took in the horrid shit that kept happening to Subaru and how it was completely earned and warranted for his development or something like that.

Arha: That LN looks interesting, will check it out.

Red Rob: Yeah, I basically figured that out already. Will be interesting to see her react when things don't go according to her plan.

...

Re:Zero? Huh, it'll be good to see more Emilia.

Eh, outside of the more brutal treatment towards the MC, Re:Zero was kind of average overall.

Like honestly, there was really only two reasons I finished the show, and that was it was different from your average isekai, and I wanted to know what was going with Subaru being isekaied in the first place.

And that was it. Looking back, I'm not sure I cared for any of the characters.

Anyone read the LN about the villainess becoming a magic otaku? I can't stand her apparent love interest but they're engaged by chapter 16. Please tell me he's not the REAL love interest.

Something like An Otome Game's Burikko Villainess Turned Into A Magic Otaku.

Pretty sure at this point that the ship is going full steam ahead, which is really killing my interest.

Yeah, I can't stand this pushy little twerp. I'm out. Also since when were tattoos hideous?

I did find it interesting that one of the other girls who reincarnated was clearly a toddler dropped into an older body (like seven or so) who had no clue what was going on. It was nice that the protagonist took care of her, wish we'd seen more of that.

[up] I'm guessing the tattoo thing has to due with Japanese cultural values. It's probably either viewed as a defilement of the body, or just their version of gang colors.

That said, I'm basing this guess off the fact it used to be considered unfillial to get a haircut in older times in Asian countries like China.

Oh, Last Boss Witch got a new chapter with an update on how the prince and the heroine are doing. So satisfying. ...Even if they haven't actually done anything wrong. It's kind of funny that reality ensues and the prince just gets a new arranged marriage because the heroine is still just a commoner.

I've read Last Boss Witch and wow it's not what I expected, that's some Game of Thrones shit right there.

But it's very good, riveting even.

What were you expecting? I suppose I read a lot of comedies and talk about then here. Last Boss Witch has little humor in it beyond Sonia being a bully, but did you go in thinking it'd be like that?

Shlugo_the_great Since: Sep, 2009
#1225: Mar 24th 2019 at 2:27:56 PM

Yeah, I expected a light comedy sort of thing. This is rather dark and kind of mean spirited. It seems to revel in taking this imagined anime the world is supposed to be based on and tearing it down.
