That does put a different light on it than the studio being horrible awful people who fired him for no reason.

Anyway, the plane squadron one looks like it could be good, though I can't say I'm a fan of 3DCG anime.

It's been fun.

From my understanding Tatsuki only shared some art and a side episode, and both Yaoyorozu claim that they have received permission to do so, while Kadokawa says otherwise. Also a Japanese guy also disputed the official statement on Yaoyorozu refusing the conditions on sharing information with interested parties, suggesting the vague statement may imply additional conditions that Kadokawa demanded. ...why is there an anime starting this early?

Anyhow, Hero Mask debuted yesterday. It's interesting. Art and direction are pretty good, and the plot does seem to be leading to something. However, this is going to be one of those anime that you need a few episodes to give a proper opinion on. It's first episode doesn't do much other than establish the characters and show the starting point for the mystery. Presumably the next episode or two will make things a bit clearer. As it is, all I can do is recommend giving it a try for the aesthetic and the direction. Everything else will have to wait further analysis.

Oh, and it's OP is pretty neat.

It's a Netflix original. ...As such it didn't "start" yesterday so much as "get dropped on us" yesterday

I got through the first episode and didn't like it enough to want to go through another 14 episodes. Found the direction a bit too active, and the writing was definitely on the weak side. Lotta cop show cliches, and the characters weren't near established enough for it's attempt at drama. Like, it wasn't bad, but a bit too amateur for me to go through a genre I don't especially like to begin with

Ah, right. Netflix original. You'd think the big Netflix logo right at the start would have clued me in.

And yeah, unless the next episode or two come up with something really interesting, I'm not really thinking of following this one. It's decent, but there's nothing too special here thus far outside of the direction.

How much anime is Netflix pulling out?

Cause they are grabbing/making a lot of stuff.

They said that about 50% of their entire budget is going towards japanese productions, so...

Oh boy could that bite them in the ass.

I can understand being intent but fucking Hell 50%.

All the potential wasted money and man-hours if the products turn out to be shit for the most part.

But that's true for non-anime stuff as well.

That is true but anime is a bit more of a riskier venture then the other stuff.

Not Really. Anime production is about half of that of Western animation production for the same amount of episodes.

Netflix's Japanese anime series are mostly unimpressive. They did produce Devilman Crybaby, which was good, but other than that I tend to consider that an anime series is less likely to be good if produced by them.

I do enjoy some of the shows that they provide, but most of them aren't their productions.

Well, Saintia Shou has begun. It's pretty rough. Definitely ugly, though the art and animation at least rises to the level of "poor" for the action scenes. And it feels like they're trying to turn it into Precure? Which is... awkward, since the original manga has a very mystical feel to it, and really isn't written for young girls

A quick summary of a few dozen shows and movies this upcoming season.

…The three CG anime shown all look pretty good, surprisingly. surprised Is the technique finally polished enough?

Is there less stuff this season, or is it just me? Not that I'm complaining that there're not as many shows to keep an eye out, mind.

Yeah, at 32 full-length series it's about as small as I've seen. Winter does tend not to have as many series as the other seasons, though

...Though you'd think that'd have changed, since we're getting a number of high-profile series during it for once

Ahh...the time of the year when the seasons are changing and I once again agonize over the options between:

1. Watch them weekly (a selected few)

2. Marathon them at episode 11-12 (Once more, another selected few)

3. Punch myself and don't engage this (like last season...and the season before that...and season before that...)

And another new factor thrown into the mix complicating it further.

Before I engage in the starters (the trailers) I got to ask:

What is a suitable number of seasonal anime to follow when a "full-time job" is involved?

That really depends on you. The majority of the time, you'll find that the biggest obstacle posed isn't your job eating up time - free time is what you make of it - but eating up energy, so you get home and think 'oh right, the new episode of X is out... eh, I'll watch it later'.

It's been fun.

Guilty as charged

It’s easy to procrastinate but it’s anime so no harm

The only thing you miss out is weekly banter while watching as released which can be fun

Yeah, I will say that if you like getting into theorizing and sharing reactions, there's no substitute for watching weekly. It's a totally different experience.

It's been fun.

Well, since this added factor occurred during the run of the current season, I got some experience in the balancing with it.

At most I can handle 1-2 episodes per day (More on the weekends due to no work on those days...) But since anime tend to come in squads during the days, the question becomes which ones to fill those spots with. (I am already filling up one spot for Jojo's bizarre adventure, that is given at this point.)

And since I know nothing of the series that is on offer (going in blind and not reading the manga first.) I ask from those with experience of these things.

Simple put.

I tend to dispatch series between weekly watching and waiting for completion based on how I am interested and genre.

  • If I think it's bad (but still watching for some reason) or a comedy I have to watch it weekly or abandon it forever. I know I won't binge-watch a comedy.
  • If I am not sure I am interested in the show, I let a few weeks pass and see what other people are saying.
  • If the plot seems hard to follow, I may wait for completion. But you don't find many complicated anime plots except for the nonsensical ones.

And then if I like a show and see no reason to wait, I don't.

Two episodes at a time is basically what I do these days, sometimes three. Years ago I could do four/five marathons no sweat but not anymore unless it's something I'm really getting into or I'm heading into a day off or something. That comment about energy is absolutely true - especially given that I often get home pretty late due to my job.

So the only things that interest me right now are Kakeguri and DAL, since I saw the previous seasons, and Mahou Asuka sounds interesting. I'm going to wait for everyone else's opinions for the other shows.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash.
