[up] It was blatantly obvious to me in my original viewing of the episode, and a lot of people called it as soon as they saw the Light Brother do that.

As eminently entertaining Caroline and Maria's mutual detest was, I still wish it was Winter sad

I was also hoping it was Winter, but I suppose things would have been far too easy if it had been her.

I think Caroline is a Love to Hate character given the entertaining situation with Maria. Any thoughts?

[up][up] I'm not even sure this subplot is going to bog them down that much; they surely aren't going to trap the heroes in a house for half the season this time around.

While I doubt they will be stuck in a house I could see then being delayed in that particular city long enough for Cinder and Neo to arrive.

[up] There's still another 6 episodes in the volume; I can imagine they catch up with Oscar, apologize for treating him like he's just an extension of Ozpin, put together a plan to get around the obstruction of SO Caroline, and execute said plan in episode 10, reaching Atlas by the end of the episode. Maybe they'll have another interlude to team WTCH and Cinder doing her thing, but I really doubt they're going to drag this subplot out for much past episode 10.

Considering how little wasted screentime we've had this volume, I'm honestly wondering if the show is going to build towards a false climax in the near future where after losing the relic of knowledge to Cinder, Ruby learning to consciously make use of her silver eyes, and hearing about Ozpin's plans for Summer on how they failed, our heroes along with the forces of Atlas go to confront Salem in the Grimmlands, only for things to go horribly wrong. That could work if they take two episodes to resolve things in Argus and learn about what Ozpin's most recent plan to defeat Salem was, then have Cinder and Neo show up and nab the relic in episode 11, they travel to Atlas and enlist ironwood's aid in 12, leaving a full hour for the conclusion.

I was initially thinking that might be more towards volume 7, but I can't see them dicking around in Atlas for an entire volume; maybe they could combine business in Atlas with gathering allies for the big confrontation with Salem and have that take up like 6 episodes of V7.

[up] Right, and I’m still predicting that a battle with Team RWBY and Caroline will ensue, and also that the final confrontation between Weiss and Jacques will happen shortly after entering Atlas.

Going to post this on both the first and normal RWBY threads. [1]

RWBY is going on a mid-season break new episode on December 22 but Chapter 8 will still stream as normal for free in RTTV stream on December 22 10am CST.

RWBY will return on December 29 with Chapter 9 for FIRST members.

RWBY finale this year will be on January 26 for FIRST members which is also the premiere of gen:LOCK.

So I’m guessing the episode 9 preview will be on the 18th, since most of us know that December 25 is Christmas.

One darkhorse semi-prediction I have is that Ozpin might be the final boss of the season if our heroes discuss things and decide they're going to disclose the full truth about the things Ozpin is hiding rather than leaving everyone in the dark. Considering how he reacted to them trying to learn the truth about him, I wonder how far he'd be prepared to go to prevent them from sharing it beyond his inner circle, and he's probably growing increasingly paranoid about RWBY, JNR, and Qrow turning on him.

I'm not sure Weiss's insistence on staying with the others is really all that wise - if she went ahead, she'd almost certainly be able to get an audience with Ironwood. Hell, the request would have to go through Ironwood, wouldn't it? He'd probably realize she's not actually going home to be with her dear brother.

[up] Yep, and that's probably where her final confrontation with Whitley and Jacques might happen.

Also, regarding Cordovin, given her cantankerous behavior and age, I'm guessing that she's a gender-inverted version of the Grumpy Old Man trope. Thoughts?

@Cap If they decided on that, they'd be fucking idiots on a colossal level. I'd root on Ozpin to kill them all and consider him justified in doing so because that isn't a solution, that's just flying over a forest fire and dumping gasoline while hoping that'll put it out.

[up] You’d have to be incredibly careful about how you broke the news, but everything being between maybe a dozen people on each side who are in on the masquerade is hugely advantageous to Salem, and you can’t realistically bring entire armies of researchers, soldiers, and government officials into the know like in the SCP Foundation mythos without someone blowing the lid on that; if we were in that sort of setting it would be the obvious choice. Meanwhile, going it almost completely alone without all the collective resources and ingenuity of humankind seems like an even worse idea, and it basically is a choice between a 12-person strong Benevolent Conspiracy or everyone learning the truth eventually.

The initial adjustment would be bad, but at the end of the day humans are remarkably good at coping with seemingly unsolvable problems beyond their control, it's not at all surprising to me that, after the initial shock wore off team RWBY is back to working the problem, as you pointed out, a neverending unwinnable fight against the Grimm is what they signed up for to begin with. Life mostly went on during the Cold War despite the long shadow cast by the prospect of total nuclear war*, and nearly everyone is capable of coming to terms with the inevitability of death and going on with their lives. If anything we’re too good at developing coping mechanisms in the face of seemingly unsolvable problems, such that it often becomes unnecessarily difficult to get people on board to implement a long term solution to said problems should one arise.

* Which never really went away.

Judging from how people have reacted to the news so far, if the world knew about Salem, they'd just lie down and let her summon the gods.

I have some concerns about which subtropes for Jerkass fit for Cordovin's entry in the recap page for episode 8. I've posted a discussion about it here.

[up][up] That's not really how I see it. Team RWBY and JNR both freaked out at first, which is understandable, but as much as its shaken them nobody's given up. While it obviously wouldn't be ideal for everyone to learn the truth, RWBY seems comparatively realistic about The Masquerade in that the number of people actually involved is around two dozen between both sides.

On todays RWBY rewind Miles answer some questing about RWBY V6 [1]

Maria Weapons called Life and Death

His favorite characters to write for is Ruby and Maria and his least is Qrow but because "he is making all the wrong choices right now" and he loves Qrow.

Tock semblance is unbreakable aura shield for 60 seconds

Mercury semblance would be a spoiler.

The theme of this volume is "will be apparent pretty soon"

Saying that the silver eyes stem from the God of Light should be obvious to the characters is pretty myopic. The main characters didn't know the gods were anything but legends until a couple episodes ago. Hell, Maria is in the know about the gods but she could well not be (seeing as per her own admission she's something of an amateur huntsman).

Anyway, I feel for Jaune and Oscar. The former took the news as well as expected, and the latter really isn't to blame for all of this. Oscar, Ozpin, Jaune, Qrow... looks like all the main male characters are in a pretty bad place, except for ever-unflappable Ren. On the upside, Qrow's descent into full-on alcoholic apathy is giving us a more proactive Ruby than we've had since, well, ever.

I was hoping that Qrow would have seen at least some development and/or actually start fighting his alcoholism after ep 6, but does he even WANT to fight it now?

Man RT really likes setting up "cool" characters only to knock them down several pegs. First Yang, now Qrow.
