Super Smash Bros Ultimate (SPOILER Thread)

AR Ms reveal definitely did it a disservice. It was done as if it was a footnote or passing thought, not a new character to one of the biggest franchises out there. It was so deflated.

-Mini Direct Stuff with 12 seconds left- 'Oh yea, AR Ms somebody is the newest Smash character or some shit. See you in June!'

It was the exact opposite of Joker's reveal. Nintendo needs to change out their current hype PR person for Smash as they have been very anti-hype lately. Reveals Terry in September with a great trailer, then goes into radio silence for months, only to randomly pop up in January with 'Oh hey, character 5 tomorrow!' and end the pass with Byleth, then goes silent again only to do a barely-hearted reveal with ARMS while not saying who. Whoo, 2nd pass hype!

Fire Emblem fanboys sure are becoming arrogant thinking their series with mediocre sales throughout most of its life should shine as bright as fucking Mario.

More franchises deserve 8 characters long before Fire Emblem. And even then, people would have still say "Yeah that's enough there, guy"

The 4th most popular/successful Nintendo franchise after Zelda looks to be Animal Crossing, judging by New Horizons and New Leaf's sales. Just, for whatever reason it doesn't have the same excessive push FE does. I remember people getting mad at it getting its second character for some reason.

Fire Emblem just benefits from good timing with every Smash release. It's a happy accident, if you will.

I would also ask we not have this argument again.

Smash is a video game crossover, not "Super Mario Bros. Smackdown" and Mario may have the most content, it only accounts for a fraction of the overall content.

Its always the same tropers that bring up the Mario and FE.

So please stop doing this

I didn't say anything about FE. I was indirectly defending all video games when it comes to their entrance in Smash and it doesn't solely revolve around Mario.

@ No Name 999 This whole thing wouldn't be so acrimonious if you would stop treating Fire Emblem fans with contempt.

I dream of the day where FE isn't subject to blatant double standards within Smash just because people don't like or care about it in comparison to other series.

I might be too protective over it at times and I do acknowledge that people have the right to dislike and criticize, but considering some Smash fans treat any FE content like it's stealing literal money out of their pockets every time it's announced, it gets incredibly tiresome very fast.

We've had conversations about it before so I'm not interested in re-hashing or going in circles. Just saying being overly dismissive and toxic about FE in Smash is annoyingly common.

Okay but you guys get why the eight character from the same series and the seventh with the same general disposition of acrobatic sword guy with silly hair color would get some folks miffed right?

If I got, say: Ness, Paula, Lucas, Kumatora, Duster and Porky then I think someone going "wtf with all this Mother representation" would be normal.

It's fine if you're happy, it's fine if you're unhappy, but it's over and done with and we've all moved on to brighter pastures.

The FE discussion will never go away. That's the double edge sword of the spotlight being on a franchise in a cross-over media. It helps it shine brightly, but the shine also risks burning it. Basically, some detractors need to stop acting as if FE is the cause of every problem in Smash and needs it to be removed, while at the same time some supporters need to stop acting as if FE invented gaming in general and deserves worship in Smash and everyone must love it.

I don't recall Chrom being met with alot of annoyance at his reveal. However, putting the series on DLC for the third time near the end of the cast addition of third parties for the second time to advertise their games while other first parties don't get that luxury is what annoys people with FE.

They are in Smash, however, and removing them does not help anything. And they are fun to play as. I think things would improve if just Nintendo stop defaulting on FE every time they need a body for the roster. Yes, it has a ton of characters. Nothing means it's a requirement to showcase that.

Do the support spirits that boost special moves do anything for specials that don't inflict damage? Like do Up Special supports affect Mega Man's Rush Coil?

Probably not, no

I personally think every antagonist should be playable or a Boss.

Porky still has one of the most sinister and catchy themes of the series though. It would be awesome to listen to his highness's theme while beating other fights as Porky.

Gigyas/Giegue's physical form would make a good MewTwo echo.

Giegue came first though.

But seriously, i can imagine him as a version of Nightmare but instead alters the stage for the opponent so they die faster.

He should automatically be killed by Jigglypuff.
