Yeah the hero they went with for the default skin is literally the most generic looking out of them, complete with that generic name...

@R Alexa21th Nintendo was never the sole owner of Rareware IIRC. They owned around half the company. Actually, part of the events leading to Rareware being sold to Microsoft was Nintendo unexpectedly turning down an offer to buy the whole company.

That and Microsoft thought buying Rare would get them the rights for Donkey Kong.

Nintendo did own the copyright of every game Rare made under them, though. When they sold their share of Rare they also sold them the rights to all the games they made independently, like Banjo, while Nintendo kept the rights to the games and characters Rare made for series Nintendo already owned, like Donkey Kong.

Considering Metroid was delayed, all leaks that mention Sylux should be considered fake.

I guess I'm the only one thrilled that Hero made it in. Eh, whatever; the fact that he looks like he plays how I wished Robin played has me excited.

The Google leak wasn't even a leak so much as search algorithm crap.

Don't put too much stock into it.

Hero is easily my favorite of the two. And if our website is correct, one of the alts is based upon the Dragon Quest 1 Hero. Instant alt choice for me. I know Slime is part of the moveset, just as I also expected. Taunt is more than good enough to me. Looks like Slime is among the stage too?

Banjo-Kazooie is less important to me, but vastly an amazing option nonetheless.

Dragon Quest 1 Hero is only in the Final Smash (he's the guy with the blue armor and horned helmet). The playable heroes are from 3, 4, 8 and 11.

I'm referring to this;

"Their palette swaps reference the other Heroes from the series: Erdrick's is of the DQ 5 Hero, Solo's is of the DQ 1 Hero, and the Guv's is of the Prince of Midenhall from DQ 2. The Luminary is the odd one out, as his palette swap seems to be based off of Angelo from DQ 8."

You know, the most surprising of the two reveals is that Luminary is the default Hero skin, considering everyone and their mother expected Erdrick to be the default. Or just the only one.

Well that quote isn't entirely accurate.

DQVIII hero's alt is Terry from DQVI.

I don't know about the characters but DQVIII is generally considered one of the best games in the franchise.

It's not really that surprising Luminary is the skin.

He's the most relevant one and known worldwide. Erdrick is a virtual unknown outside of Japan. He's too risky to use as the base costume. They want DLC to sell worldwide.

They don't even use any Heroes in DQ crossovers overseas(except in Japan only), where it's just the monsters(in both Japan and the West). The Monsters always had more of an impact in the West overall. It still shows here, as Slime is part of the moveset. It makes sense, being the Mascot and all.

So, are we out of leaks now?

As of now, yes.

The best part is Tansut, when asking if it's Erdrick, got a "sure why not". What do you know, it's technically Erdrick but isn't the focus of Hero either.

Though at least the datamine makes things more interesting too. Packun Flower and Brave are literal Japanese names(the Japanese site has Hero translate as Brave via Google Translate normally), meaning only Joker had a codename related to it so far. Arsene had a codename too. So now I wonder what Banjo's actual codename is. They might be even going with a pattern of "exact name", "related name", "exact name", repeat. I'll laugh if Banjo's codename is instrument.

I reckon we are at this point. Honestly, I think all of the "leaks" were debunked today since they were all swearing up and down and all around that Erdick was going to be the default DQ hero instead of the Luminary. So now I think it's safe to say that the last two characters could be just about anybody at this point.

My belated thoughts:

• DQ Heroes: Although I have never touched a Dragon Quest game in my life and was initially indifferent toward the inclusion of any of the protagonists being added, after watching the trailer I was genuinely excited and happy to see them added in. Looks like there's a lot of love put into their design and they look fun to play as.
• Banjo/Kazooie: Given that they've been one of my most wanted characters in Smash for the longest time, I'm very happy and excited to see them finally be added to the game and they look like a blast to play as. Glad they're in their N64 designs as well. I was admittedly a bit nervous that they'd have their janky Nuts & Bolts design if they were ever added in.

I have a theory that Erdrick was the default the one for a while before they switched it to the Luminary to cash in on DQXI for the Switch hype.

But yeah there were two prevalent rumors up until this point, one had Banjo, one had Erdrick, neither had both.

We're in uncharted territory until someone finds the leaked roster on their burnt piece of toast.

Question to all you guys; you think Slime and Gruntilda are going to be added as assist trophies? There were shots in the middle of both reveal trailers of these two, and it looked at least like Slime was actively going to for something (Gruntilda just kind of flew around).
