Midnight's Edge

So, what's your opinion about the channel? I personally want to see other people's opinion to see if some impressions I have are real or are just mine.

For those who doesn't know is basically a channel about gossips regarding Hollywood productions but presented in the way of a Vlog/pseudo-Documentary.

They're pretty good, they've usually got their finger on the pulse. Their videos about Josh Trank and Fant4stic as well as the Ghostbusters reboot were very informative.

I liked them. They feel informative without being dishonest.

I use to, but I feel they got too political in their lastest video the Solo post-mortem, they used to be more neutral even during the Ghostbusters controvery which was such a hot topic

Although to be fair I've been watching the show lately and they are back into their more traditional (and politically neutral) format, I think is mostly Andre the one that makes some comments once in a while. Their videos about Sony's handling of the Spider Man franchise is great.

I literally just unsubscribed to them because of their growing obsession with tearing down identity politics as a "bad" thing. They're the kind of guys who mock new Star Wars for it's female characters and attempts to be more inclusive. Their neutral takes are great, and their reporting seems solid, but they skew their videos with rhetoric I personally don't agree with. Their latest video on "Captain Marvel" and how it needs to learn from "Star Wars"' "mistake" was the last straw.

That's a shame. I don't blame you for doing that. I used to be a fan of Review Tech USA until it became clear how far right he was.

I havn't seen the Captain Marvel video and now I won't.

They kind of zigzaged on their alt-rightness all the time, is like if they don't really dare to go all the way, but lately is like if they feel brave enough to do it. In a while it won't be different from Molineaux channel.

Political? I don't even care, what offends me way more is them occasionally having wrong opinions about movies! (like badmouthing perfectly fine films and liking garbage).

But they are doing God's work with exposing back room deals and the ugly side of Hollywood.

Same, I think their behind the scenes analysis is great, but I've become very wary of them after noticing a growing anti-SJW kind of trend and haven't really been watching them for a while as a result.

Not a bad trend.

There's nothing good about spreading anti-progressive ideology. Really weird to see anyone think there is.

Were we being too negative? or too political?

Midnight's Edge seems like another alt right complainer to me and he says stuff without any citation, like he says there is a contract that says all new Star Trek content has to be 25% different from previous stuff, but where is his evidence for this? Look at how different Next Generation is to the original series. I have no use for alt right cultural critics because their criticism is hardly ever constructive, its always a combo of nerd nostalgia and gate keeping to keep out people they do not like. They do not seem to acknowledge that social commentary has part of sci fi since the beginning, take it out and you have an inferior product.

Basically, bringing politics into any TV Tropes discussion is a bad idea, and that should apply to everyone (including me).

Politics are fine, and are discussed liberally in many threads here. While there are problems, you're the only one who's shown where they come from.

That wasn't a compliment. In a normal conversation about politics, everyone would have a cool head and show good faith with their arguments. Notice how every non thumped post here is discussed in a calm and reasonable manner?

The channel is slightly better than that, they're no Quartering or anything, they've done pretty good informative and neutral reporting on a bunch of issues, but they do have biases in that direction and their worst videos are when those biases show through.

Also, all that talk about another Ghostbusters remake/reboot/whatever is not even necessary, since the 3rd movie was made, just as a game.

Well their last video about the "collapse" of Star Trek/Star Wars/Doctor Who is pure man alt-rightism.
