I'm pretty sure it's said or implied in the Reports by the Producer that the reason they took Shiki in one week and all players in another was to hide the fact that they literally couldn't resurrect anyone without Josh.

...I don't get why they took Shiki and made Neku play again instead of taking Neku and making Shiki play again, when it's outright said in the reports that they didn't know Neku was the scapegoat proxy until week 3.

Lucky, I guess.

Oh, so grabbing other people isn't a thing they normally do? That does make sense. I'd known about the strategically-chosen entry fees in the second two weeks, but I hadn't put two and two together. That's a relief.

In that case, yeah, probably memories of friends.

@OmegaRadiance I would think he'd have considered the possibility by that point. I know he's not the smartest guy out there, but he knew the risks he was taking by the end of the game.

[up][up]Well, they needed to spin a believable tale. So if they were going to say that just one of the two had earned resurrection, Shiki was the most believable candidate, as she had undergone personal growth and made strides toward conquering her envy over the course of the week. Neku hadn’t exactly been spinning his wheels either, but without his memories, he couldn’t quite manage the same level of growth.

Should be noted every Secret Movie is in the final World.

That's not true. The Final World only showed up for the first time in III. tongue

A little late, but I also like the Attractions, especially in those really dark moments. The one problem I had with them was that you had to waste them to get to a Grand Magic or Finish Command you actually wanted in that situation. Thank goodness I learned that you could shuffle through them by pressing L2.

Sora and Kairi did have a Relationship Upgrade: That's what sharing the paopu fruit is about. They are engaged before going to the Keyblade Graveyard. Oath/Don't Think Twice is made ironic because it's supposed to be about their wedding day, but instead, the game ends with Sora missing in action.

I didn't hate the Attractions but they did make all the battles feel really samey.

I wouldn't say they killed the tone. Or, at least, I wouldn't say they killed the tone any more than having Donald Duck, Goofy, and a shonen hero powered by friendship in a given scene already did. These are not characters that can sustain a dark and gritty atmosphere for very long.

My only beef with the Attractions is that they popped up three seconds into every battle and almost always functioned as game-ending boardwipes. I considered avoiding them, but given that the Grand Magic and Formchanges were also frequently game-ending boardwipes anyway, it eventually just stopped mattering.

Of course, I was playing on Standard mode, so maybe kicking it up to Proud mode might make the combat feel less like a repetitive stomp. Like, it's not even the stomp that bothers me, just. There's only so many times you can wipe the board with tea cups before it feels like every battle is the exact same tea cup boardwipe.

I actually didn't even bother with the regular tea cup attack because the Finisher kills everything onscreen anyway so why waste time hunting and pecking against individuals?

Kingdom Hearts has a ton of varied enemies with different attack patterns and strategies, but this is the first game where I've felt like none of that matters because no enemy lasts more than five seconds against the almighty boardwipes Sora is constantly spamming with every swing.

Hell, by game's end, regular magic had become that. XD I wound up skipping most battles by dropping a Thundaga in the middle of the crowd as soon as they spawned, and that immediately ended 9 out of 10 fights. Thanks for spending countless hours coding all these interesting enemies that I will never actually see fight, SquareEnix.

Yeah, Attractions seem a bit... overpowered? Overabundant? Maybe both?

Definitely overabundant. Almost every fight the first thing you see is the green circle around an enemy that activates an attraction. They shouldn't be that common.

Attractions are at their strongest at the start of the game because of everything having lower health, but as early as the Kingdom of Corona I could tell they were less effective by then. It only goes downhill from there.

They were great in the period before Sora has his movement and gap closing abilities back and then they really fade in power.

Proud in this game is pretty easy so upping the difficulty wouldn't have changed much.

Yeah they need to buff the enemy's speed and aggression a bit I think. Or nerf magic. Or make them tankier/beefier (though that's never a good solution)

Everything in this game is already a damage sponge (one of the early bosses has more health than Final Xemnas), so I don't thinking buffing enemy defenses and/or nerfing your damage is a good idea unless bosses get their health shaved a fair bit.

When 0.2 was patched it actually took health off of bosses (like 2 bars or something).

I mean, that doesn't really change much if you still clear that HP in around the same time does it?

I mean, I don't think any bosses in this game are particularly damage spongey just because Sora can dish out so much damage.

[up][up][up] Except you don't have to kill the Demon Tide in that fight, only drive it away, so trying to compare it to Final Xemnas is irrelevant.

maybe nerf the range, I've seen Sora cast Thundagas on Dark Inferno while he's on the other side of the room.

man balancing's hard. I guess a proper idea would be giving enemies set resistances to things in your repertoire. like 70% of the things in Jiminy's journal have a magic weakness. Maybe make that vary more than just the elemental ones being immune to their own, so you're encouraged more to switch things up.

The Toy Box end boss?

It has no where near as much def as Final Xemnas does.

That, and I found all the games bosses to be fun overall (Except the flying Lord of the Sky Boss redo in Pirates world, which is just eh).

Speaking of the Caribbean, is the group of Ships that constantly appear and disappear in a different spot in battle intended or a bug? Cause, I swear that's the hardest part of the game if it's intended.

The fleet vanishes in a veil of mist; the animation is consistent and hides a respawn of the flanking ships, so I'm like 99% sure it's intentional.

I actually really liked the flying boss in the Caribbean? It was a cool set piece, and I wish the game had a few more unique fights like that.

I hated the naval battles because I've actually studied naval warfare in the Age of Sail, and I had to disregard everything I've been taught in order to win those battles.
