Why is my avatar suddenly smaller than everyone else's?

I switched avatars (ones I have used before) and suddenly my avatar is smaller than normal. I've switched between avatars multiple times trying to see if that would make it go back to normal, but it hasn't. They're all this smaller size including the one I was using before I changed it.

Is there any way to fix this?

You might want to bring this up in Query Bugs, or search to see if anyone else has a similar issue. We've had oddities with avatars in the past.

Edit: I checked and your avatar is stored as 100x100, but is being displayed as 81x81.

~Crystal Memoria: As a test, would you please edit your avatar caption to something shorter? I'd like to see if the caption width is affecting the avatar's image frame.

Is this good?

I have no idea how my image is being displayed as 81x81... It wasn't doing that before a couple days ago and I've used this avatar before then...

Nope, that didn't fix it. We'll bring it up with the devs. I'm sure it has nothing to do with you specifically.

~Crystal Memoria: The dev I asked says your avatar was uploaded at 96 dpi, when the standard for web images is 72 dpi. This is causing the forum software to render it smaller than its native resolution. We tested by reuploading the image at 72 dpi and it had the right width.

That's really weird... Like I said all of my avatars were originally the proper size, but then all of my avatars suddenly weren't.

So... I have no idea what happened.

What am I supposed to do then?

You can try re-uploading them at correct dpi. Any reasonably capable image editor should be able to do the conversion. I've raised the issue and maybe we'll get a tech fix, but I wouldn't count on it happening super quickly.

Ah... I don't know if I'll be able to reupload every single picture again (As I no longer have a bunch of them) so I guess I'll just have to sit this out...

Thank you for the help!

Well, if the avatars in question are still in your avatar gallery, you can just redownload them from there. Right click and "save image". or whatever your browser calls it.

At least, if there's nothing odd going on behind the scenes that would interfere with that, which has been known to happen on various web sites.

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.
