I just want a Resident Evil 8 to be honest. With how good 7 was, I'd rather more all new content than more remakes.

7 was good because of how divorced it was from the rest of the series. I wonder if that can be sustained.

[up] There were already some potential warning signs in the DLC for 7. What with Chris coming in and the tone becoming all action packed again, along with a new version of Umbrella.

Resident Evil is weird, because it has such a hard tone to nail down. People hated the action shlockiness of 5 and 6, but people loved 4, which is ALSO ridiculous action shlock. So what did 4 do that those two didn't? Did 5 and 6 take themselves too seriously?

Is that the formula? RE is at it's best when it plays the horror straight and the action really campy?

Save Rooms will always be safe in this game, no need to worry about enemies in them.

Also I have to say it's fun reading someone experiencing the game for the first time. Please keep sharing your thoughts and experiences here and hopefully nobody spoils you on anything.

[up]Gee I think that Wesker guy is a swell dude. I hope he will be the main hero of the next game.

Is the room where Barry kills the first zombie a save room? I can't find any storage chest in there.

It's not. They have a distinct jingle and are generally pretty small.

Save Rooms always have typewriters and an item box inside. The mansion's main hall is an exception to the rule since it has only a typewriter.

[up]x7: 4 was a solo outing, with the only doubling up being three escort missions. The game was schlocky, but not nearly as much as 5 and on a different planet from 6. By and large the weapon upgrade systems from 4 and 5 appear to be more popular that the plug and play of revelations or the skill systems later on; being able to pick distinct guns and carry them through the endgame with them remaining useful was also different from what followed.

[up][up][up]Check the map. Typewriters and item boxes will be circled once you find them. there are two save rooms in the mansion.

If that's the case, then I haven't reached a single save room yet. I have currently used up the sword key.

There's a save room in the east and west ends of the mansion on the first floor. None on the second floor.

Okay, I found one. Now I have 6 pink ribbons total. Also threw the knife away. Also got a canteen with kerosene.

That's wise then. It's too bad they didn't make the knife its own button like they did with the DS port.

I obtained the shotgun and found the second save room. I think I burned 4-5 corpses. Also wasted a shotgun shell on a damn dog.

Currently hunting for the dog collar. More dogs do shoot.

Barry gave me some acid shell, but I didn't get the grenade launcher yet.

I got the armor key. I now only have 2 shotgun shells left. I spent 2 shells on a Crimson Head and 2 on a dog. My defensive items are also exhausted. Is there any tip to score headshots?

I try to carry a canteen full of fuel at all time, and avoiding killing any zombie unless I still have fuel left.

I wonder if the guy in the PS1 FMV is supposed to be the guy killed by dogs in the HD version.

With the shotgun, let zombies get close and then aim upward. Usually a guaranteed decapitation.

You can't do headshots on dogs and I wouldn't bother wasting shotgun rounds on them unless you really have no choice. Also, don't burn every single body you see because there's not going to be enough fuel for that, which is intentional. If you're lucky enough to have 2 zombies collapse on top of each other, you can burn both bodies with one use of fuel.

[up]You actually can critical dogs, but it is very rare and using the pistol on them in Remake is a very poor option.

[up][up][up]Crits are random, but you can moderately increase the chance by shooting straight ahead at a zombie's legs while they are on the stairs; which has a decent chance of blowing off a leg and preventing a turn (headshots aiming up stairs are not possible IIRC). The shotgun can do it, but is unreliable in this game.

One more tip as Jill: when you find flame rounds, save them for zombies in well traveled areas. If you kill one with flame round they burn automatically, but not if you hit them with flame first and have to finish them with another weapon. Put two handgun bullets in them before firing a flame round. Depending on the random rolls and difficulty they can potentially eat a handgun bullet and a flame round without dying. This also gives you two small chances for a crit to save the flame round.

Where possible, try and kill zombies on top of one another, too. Zombies who's bodies are bunched together all burn with one use of your very limited fuel.

Whenever possible try to avoid zombies rather than kill them. For example the room looking down on the dining room only has one zombie and it's easier to just outrun him to get to your destination rather than kill him, as a Crimson Head up there is a lot worse to deal with (I played the original GC version so I had the glitch with maxing out grenade ammo on Jill's run, allowing me to cheese through the game with that and thus kill as many zombies as possible).

Since you have the shotgun now, you can just start blasting off zombie heads.

It's not worth it to try and go for headshots with the shotgun. It's still a random chance and you actually have to be aiming up with the shotgun to have a chance, you're better off saving the shotgun for stronger enemies.
