The Saberface thing is more funny at this point and they know it. They created a character whose sole goal is to hunt down Sabers.

[up][up]Red Saber was one of the first Saberfaces though, so it wasn't really a gag at that point. My impression is that, other than Takeuchi just liking the design, they thought it'd be funny to have her act in a completely different way.

Somehow this series is actually farther over-the-top than Apocrypha was. 's awesome

Surprised at how powerful Toosaka appears to be. Solos 3 servants and survives a flood

Three damaged Servants who don't even seem capable of using their N Ps.

Otherwise there's be a lot more undead, Innuendo from that giant ass sword, and then there'd be the Spartan.

Holy crap, this episode did the impossible: they made Shinji Matou into a halfway likeable person!

Still no explanation on Dead Face. That annoys me, but I'm guessing it'll come up again.

And we get a bit of info on what the situation is: SE.RA.PH has been overruled by Chakravartin, one of Saver's Noble Phantasms. I'm wondering what he and (I assume) Twice are hoping to achieve with this. What does make me happy though is that it looks like Saver is taking an actual role in the plot, rather than just being tacked on as a Final Boss like in the game.

This episode made me realize how bad of a choice having Saber to be the protagonist in this kind of format really is. Mainly because her most basic power is basically "I can do whatever I want because [insert Insane Troll Logic here]".

Her Imperial Privilege isn't quite as overpowered as it sounds: she isn't able to master the skills she gains from it; they're always weaker than the original. Also, she forgets the skills within a couple of minutes.

We kind of saw that in this episode: Rider could control an entire fleet without effort, Saber needed an extra shot of mana beyond her maximum just to control even one ship.

My point is that I fear that most of her victories just end up being her just deciding she can do this to solve the problem. Like it doesn't matter if she can only use certain buffs temporarily, if it solves the problem, then so be it.

Imperial Priviledge can be a perfectly interesting skill to have in a protagonist Servant if every enemy is a Puzzle Boss and Nero has to do something unique and creative to win each fight (think Gold Experience or Soft & Wet from Jojo). The problem is the only fight we got so far was not like that at all, so my hopes are low for how the Nero fights will turn out.

At least two later characters should be a bit more tricky to deal with. Up to four.

Umu, this definitely has the basic structure of the game, but beyond that everything is... distorted. And it seems it's Saver and his Chakravartin that's to blame.

Eh Rin is a cool guy. Beats three Servants and doesn't afraid of anything. tongue

But seriously, I really like Rin here. She's fun to watch, and I wonder what's her deal in this version. What did she use to take down those three?

Drake vs Saber was a cool fight. Nice to finally see how Drake's NP works outside of confines of the game engine. Also, those gian "dams" were amazing.

Saber's Imperial Privilege is awesome, and lends itself well to creative fights. Saber being the protagonist pays of already.

Hey, Shinji was not a total piece of shit in this!

Okay, that last scene cracked me up, mostly thanks to Rin. "Wait for me guys!" [lol]

Am I confusing something of one the death scenes in this episode was inside the throne room in Fate Extella? That opens up a can of worms logically considering it is the sequel. Really everything seems to be messed up, it seems months have passed until the main character reached the first floor compared to others but he was only couple of hours behind in universe. The world is straight up broken.

I still hope that it will converge with Fate-Extella and caster will join the party at level 4 as a sub servant.

As for the anime itself, I don't think Fate Extra would have made for a compelling watch for people except fans considering it was formulaic as heck. The anime is far more unique and interesting, especially if you know the plot of the original game.

I’m a little disappointed that the Drake fight didn’t really set up her defeat that well beyond literally last second oops out of ammo

But yeah, good Shinji and Drake

Theory: Rin and Rani are actually a piece of Seraph trying to reinstate the Grail War

Odd, Dan Blackmore's characterization is quite different from what it was in the games. Maybe it's because 50 years of no progress have made him desperate? Still weird for Archer to be the somewhat chivalrous one of the two.

Speaking of time-skips, 3020? Something wacky really is going on with this Holy Grail War, since Hakuno would have entered the Moon Cell around 2030 if I recall right. Stasis? Or is it repetition? The latter seems more likely to me.

Rani's introduction. I do wish they'd explain how exactly she lost her Servant. And for that matter, how Rin lost hers.

Also, laughing at the fansubbers calling it "Mile Room". That was supposed to be "My Room", a Master's personal quarters during the Holy Grail War in which they and their Servant could recuperate.

[up]At this point it seems that the only one who's stayed unchanged from the game is Saber. Everyone's else is all warped.

Yeah, this 1000 year time skip is... weird. No idea where the story is going, which I guess is the point.

[up][up] Mile Room was amusing but the least of the problems. That sub was pretty decent at first aside from the pretty forgivable number mistake. Then in episode 3 it started to bother me by leaving the umus untraslated but it was for the sake of the umu counter so I can understand. But episode 4 was absolutely awful. It feels like the translator either unlearned a lot of Japanese this week, did this half-asleep or left it to someone else. I counted at least 5 lines wrong. My favorite is how they flubbed No Face May King twice in two completely different ways. They swapped their much more clever Maestro for Preator, but that was probably caving in for public demand.

Meh, it's not like their translation choices will affect anything in the long run.

Episode 5 was fairly good. Saber defeating Archer is actually clever compared to Rider and Hakuno gets to do something. Unfortunately the better girl has to die.

This is much better now that Last Encore is already explicitly defined as sequel (kinda). And we still got to see Dan's better Fate/EXTRA moments animated.
