I dunno, I like villains who you know have this big scary presence to them.

Personally, I do think that Muzan kind of has such a presence, but it's more in a "He's scary because he's a super powerful brat who throws tantrums at the slightest provocation" way. He sort of reminds me of the Plutonian to an extent.

I was interested in Muzan initially seeming to have a human family he cared about, and was disappointed that turned out not to be the case.

I think the issue with Muzan is he's kinda too passive.

Like the whole thing about him being a coward afraid to go to fight is understandable, but there's not really much else to him.

He's not even really proactive in the sense of sending villains to stop the heroes, because the most he does is just barking orders at them. But he doesn't really get creative or involved in how it goes, instead keeping an immense distance from the action.

So there's not really much to him as a result. Even the whole identity shifting that would have been interesting goes unexpplained.

To be fair everytime he tried to be proactive he got fucked. When he actively try to challenge Yoriichi? Get fucked. When he try to find the flower himself? Get fucked and led to the chain of events that led to his defeat. Try to go to the headquarter of the demon slayers? Get fucked. In a sense, you can see that he shouldn't be making any decision but he also too prideful to actually take order or let other demon be in charge. And I highly doubt any other demons could be put in charge due to how Muzan recruit or feed into their negative loop.

Also the baby form isn't his final form, it was a shield that he use as a last ditch effort to survive. His true "final form" is his tentacle and mouth form.

E.T technically is a Isekai movie

The son persona I do understand, actually; the family that adopted him had a wealth of knowledge and prestige. He's using it as a cover to research the Blue Spider Lily. He's even got the "father" to try to find a cure for his "skin condition."

In fact, all his personas look like they're in high positions of authority and influence. I'm guessing it's a combination of wanting to live in luxury, being in a place of high authority to keep tabs on humans, and getting access to information to re-create the medicine that created him.

One of my Favorite crossover ideas of further Humiliating Muzan if he somehow survied the manga's ending:

(1954)

Muzan: "(Fiully Regenerated) I'm alive! Now to hunt down the decendant of the Demon Slayer Corps and destroy them all! HAHAHAHA!"

(THUMP)

Muzan:..."Whats that sound?"

(THUMP)

Muzan: (Looks behind him and literally shits himself as Godzilla walks behind him in his 50 meter glory)......"Thats fucking bullshi-"

(Godzilla uses his Atomic Breath and incinerates Muzan worse then the rays of the sun ever did).

Muzan: AAAAAAAGH

Godzilla: "SKREEEEEEOOOOONK!"

(godzilla just continues his rampage, never realizing he unintentionally saved the world from someone who doesn't matter)

I always liked the idea personally of a demon escaping Muzans influence and using their new The Ageless immortality to try to reach enlightenment.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.

I'm probably way behind the curve on this, but I am amused how the Fear demon being tiny reminds me of a favorite Buffy episode.

Oh yeah, I remember. Of course, Hantengu is much more dangerous than Gachnar.

One thing that kind of annoyed me is that it was never revealed who the people posing as Muzan's "families" in his human guises really were. Demon henchmen? Brainwashed thralls? Total innocents whose loved ones got a Kill and Replace by the big nasty without their knowledge?

Well, isn't it kind of obvious from the manga? We know the family he had when we met him for the first time weren't demons — Tanjiro would have smelled them. And the family that adopted Kid!Muzan were clearly normal humans as well. And there's never any indication that Muzan has any kind of hypnosis power — his powers are pretty boring compared to the more out-there abilities him minions have — so it's most likely the latter.

Okay so I've been actually trying to sit down and watch the anime properly. I'd been stalling at Episode 19 for way too long and on a whim, my brother wanted to start watching from the beginning. So we did, I just got done with the Entertainment District arc...

...fuck, I'm enjoying this way more than I did with the manga. Now don't get me wrong, there's some stuff that's still iffy. I still have some complaints about stuff (still mixed feelings regarding Nezuko's writing, and while I like Tengen a lot more I'm still not super hot on him), but so much of it feels meatier and sticks with me better. I don't know if it's because of the animation quality, the extra scenes, the music, or what, but I can finally get some of it. Seriously, while the action in the manga wasn't *that* bad, the flourishes the anime brings had me on the edge of my seat. The final fight of the Entertainment District arc, with EVERYONE giving it their all against Gyutaro and Daki, was GREAT.

I looked back at my old post from months ago about my feelings after finishing the manga, and I'm surprised with how negative some of it was. I didn't like Gyutaro or Akaza when I first read through it, but now? Goddamn, I *LOVE* them. Akaza's fight with Rengoku is a million times better with the flourishes the anime gives, and GOD I WAS SO EMOTIONAL AFTERWARDS. Reading it in the manga made me worked up, watching it animated had me on the verge of tears. Also wow, I seriously didn't like Mitsuri as much reading the manga, huh...I haven't gotten to Swordsmith Village yet but I've seen clips of her in the anime and I can already tell I'm gonna change my perspective. I'm even feeling different about Kanao, I actually like her a lot more.

And hell, watching it made me especially appreciate the character development. I feel like having Mugen Train and Entertainment District back to back emphasizes Tanjiro's character arc a lot because of the shared tie between them: his survivor's guilt. Losing most of his family, then losing Rengoku, and blaming himself for it, pushing himself to his limits and wrecking his body...FUCK, that was so good. I love this boy so much. And the end of the season being the defeat of one (well, two-in-one) of the Upper Six...I don't know if it's like avenging Rengoku, exactly, but it's proof that Tanjiro and the others have come much further and grown in strength.

I'm feeling really excited to watch through Swordsmith Village and seeing if my opinions change on that too. Whenever the hell the anime gets to the final arc, I'm gonna have a fun time. I feel like I'm getting a fucking revelation here, I *GET* it now.
