[up]At this point the only thing Mario can't do is be in a good Hollywood movie.

This thread at r/Games gives a summary of the reviews it's gotten. I'd quote the OP, but I don't think its formating works for this forum. I'll just say the scores seem to be averaging around 85 according to the aggregator in the OP. Difficulty seems adequate for the genre (meaning it gets harder as you go on), with some reviewers complaining about the difficulty, but there's an "Easy Mode" toggle you can use to get through certain maps (at the cost of lowering your map clear score). Strategy-wise, some people (mostly X-Com players) in the thread praised it as one of the best/most solid strategy games they've played.

To paraphrase another comment, we've come a long way to "what the fuck is this shit?" when the concept was revealed it seems. I don't think anyone expected it to review well at all. Personally though, I'm glad it is. I remember one of the creators crying (or tearing up at least) when his game was shown at E3, so it's good to know that his passion will be rewarded (...hopefully... we still have to wait and see how well the game sells).

[up]Yeah, I still haven't beaten Enemy Unknown, and I got for free with the Xbone Live.

That game is INTIMIDATING.

About the misspelling, mods usually nicely fix titles if someone reports the first post.

[up][up]Feel free to ask for help in the XCOM thread if you think you could use it, it's really not so bad on the easier difficulty levels once you get some good habits down.

This and the Xcom expansion come out on the same day. Sometimes the universe has a weird sense of humor.

I don't really know if Ubi and Nintendo would be so confident to intentionally launch against what I'm pretty sure is the strongest brand in turn-based tactics, but maybe?

[up]Strongest brand in the genre, maybe.

Also rather distinctly, not a brand on any Nintendo system currently in existence.

So yes, I can actually buy the choice of matching dates to be deliberate.

I think they're not purposefully meant to compete directly with each other, because their respective main markets are quite different with only one notable overlap (general Turn-Based Strategy/TBS fans).

Kingdom Battle's a standalone game, and it's more enticing for Switch owners in general or TBS fans who have easier access to Nintendo platforms (considering they have Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, etc. it's a valid idea). While the somewhat high difficulty has been verified by reviewers, its mechanics are also much simpler than its closest analogue, XCOM, so it's probably also meant as a "gateway" TBS game.

Meanwhile, War of the Chosen is an expansion meant only for existing XCOM 2 players, and considering its Long War-esque scale of revamps and extended gameplay, is most probably meant to cater to dedicated and seasoned TBS players first and foremost.

Fair points...still can't really see why either side would make them release at the same time save for "Because that's funny!", which is frankly still possible.

Game is really fun so far. The opening cutscene is nuts, and that's all I want to say about that. Game isn't too difficult, but you do have to think and plan your moves. It's a legit tactics game. The presentation makes everything easy to understand and execute, even maneuvers which may seem tricky at first glance. The exploration segments are a nice cool down after the battles, very much like the Mario & Luigi games. Definitely worthy of the positive reviews.

In a way, it's almost a comeback story. A game overcomes its negative early perception to become one of the most lauded games of the year.

That leak, in its own way, did the game a big favour.

Yeah, by the time the game was properly announced the knee-jerk wtf reaction had worn off and people were able to focus on the great-looking gameplay instead of the weird premise.

In this case, there's really no such thing as bad publicity.

I'm not getting the game right now, but this is definitely a must-have. Probably getting it once I'm not too busy (with Splatoon, of course!).

And I just realized Pokken and Yokai Watch are just around the corner. Never have I've felt so oppressed with game release schedules...

Okay, yeah, I was a bit skeptical of this at first (for obvious reasons), but the more info I gather on it, the more fun it looks. I don't know if I'll pick it up immediately (I probably wouldn't have enough time to play it because of work), but it's definitely on the list.

Hmm. Apparently the game checks victory conditions before defeat conditions, as that's the only way to explain how I won a battle with everyone K Oed.

Anyone notices that Tom Phan looks like Lucas from Pokemon Platinum? He only lacks a beret.

I'm finding that upgrading my dash attacks helps a lot considering they're a very precious source of damage and can potentially hit multiple enemies. Rabbid Luigi is already a monster with his 80 damage dash, and that's not even fully upgraded.
