Absatining from vote on that matter because I could justify for myself voting in both directions
"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives""Abstaining". And OK.
Going to sleep now. But make your choices tomorrow everybody cause the faster we do, the faster we move into a real adventure!
Things you guys need to settle on:
- whether the rat and/or the goat are dead.
- what to do with the goat herder. Just to be helpful, I'm going to offer some options:
- tie-him up.
- Interrogate him.
- search him.
- kill him (yes this IS an option, but since he's currently defenseless it would count as an Evil act!)
- deliver him and demand your rewards (but note it's the middle of the night; you will either have to watch him until morning, or take him to the local jail and explain things there.)
Please post your choices in the form of actual posts in the main game.

I feel like killing a defenseless sapient creature isn't inherently evil, although I wouldn't exactly call it very moral. For example, killing the unconscious evil dragon you know is probably going to escape whatever cage you put it and go on killing? Chaotic, maybe neutral, and while I doubt a paladin would go with it, it's sparing many, many more beings, and would be avenging countless others. It would also be sparing the dragon the humiliation and pain of a public execution.
But yeah, I feel like murdering a poor goat-herder, even if he is a thief, would be pretty evil, especially since a regular cell or even just community service could probably stop him from stealing again, at least for a while. In this case, there's a serviceable alternative, which everyone recognizes.
So again, I'm just pointing out that a lot of things considered "evil" are permissible in different circumstances. While I am NOT disagreeing with you here, and I in fact agree with you, I'd like to offer my opinion on this since this will no doubt crop-up later at some point.
Also yay, characterization! All things considered, that post assumes that both animals are dead, since the sheer amount of damage, both in game reality terms and number crunching, would have basically killed them outright.

Wooze looks at Glass with a 'please take her away' lookOh, I totally agree with you Century. I was just pointing out that, in this case, killing a poor Commoner would be considered an evil act. He's not a real danger and no match for you. I was just reminding you that the choice is up to you players.
Also if I have my way, you might find yourselves in situations where the morality won't be so easy. There's plenty of Neutral-aligned sentient monsters in this world, after all.
Waiting for Sergey to post too (sorry, but you *need* to say something, even if only "the centaur stays quiet, saying nothing.")
Also, these were not familiars. Just uncommonly clever animals. But its OK for the party to think so. For more info, talk to the shepherd.

shall I assume, they introduced themselves during their chat?
Err, who and what chat? And who are you asking, me?
Better phrased: Should I assume, the adventurers introduced themselves to each other during that short interim?
Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesWhistler and Gabatim, very likely. Fyterion and Mialee, likely too. But not between each group, unless someone posts they that did (it's been several minutes in-game since they arrived at the hut.)
Going to bed now. Feel free to post a bit more if guys want. I'll be back in the morning.
Alignment: For purposes of clarity, I will explain how this works in my campaign.
All but the most mindless creatures have an Alignment. Alignment has two components, the Ethos and the Morals. Moral is the goal it seeks, Ethos is how it pursues it.
The three Morals are Good, Evil and Neutral. Good beings try to prevent the suffering of sentients (for our purposes, a sentient is any creature that can speak.) Conversely, Evil beings *want* to cause suffering. Neutral creatures do not care either way and have other goals (food, treasure etc.)
The three Ethos are Lawful, Chaotic, and Neutral. A Lawful creature follows a set of rules, either its society's laws or a personal code. Chaotic ones meanwhile tend to follow their impulses. Neutral ones just go with whatever is most convenient. (note: a creature of both Neutral Ethos and Morals is called True Neutral, or just Neutral.)
In all cases, the Moral is more important than the Ethos (except for Neutral Moral.) Acting outside your alignment indicates you are shifting, which is possible for humanoids, but very rare among monsters.
(Note: there is such a thing as Tendencies. This when a creature occasionally acts outside its alignment -for example, a Lawful character might occasionally do unlawful things- but never totally opposite things. ex. a Good creature never does Evil acts.)
Following your alignment earns you Advantage, going against it, Disadvantage.
As already mentioned, being tricked or charmed into acting outside your alignment does not count; it has to be a conscious, willing act.
The-GM-Screwed-Up-Again Dept: Err, I forgot to post this earlier:
[[Combat Over. Each Player Character earns 10 XP. Please add them to your character sheets.]]
And shall we move on with posts in the main game, before you move the narrative along? (It seems we still have to work out what to do with the goat-herder.)
Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesQuick thing, I'm going to be going on vacation for a week. This does not mean I won't be able to post- it just means I'll probably not post too frequently. Once per day is what I'll be aiming for. Anything else is just gravy.
Wooze looks at Glass with a 'please take her away' lookYes, I'm waiting for you guys to decide what to with the herder so I can conclude that chapter and move to the next. I need to know if you will let him go but return the goods and get the reward first.
(And Cwest, that's OK. Remember, my preference is one post per player per day in order to give you all enough time to respond without slowing the game much. I *am* flexible in this, as long as its something reasonable.)

I was hoping the herder would reply to Mialee in case he had anything to say for himself.
Well, Gabatim seems to want to bring him to jail, but Whistler seems to want him free. Sorry but I need a decision there folks.
Whoops. Was still reacting to the last discussion post... I suppose it falls to Fyterion and Mialee?
Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesI'd like remind you guys that, you know, its still the middle of the night. That's why I said it would be better to wait until morning or take the guy to jail. Buuut if you want to wake up the Mayor, be my guests...
Oh, I so want to do that right now... All players up for an act of insanity?
Although the mayor did say he wanted the matter handled quietly. What's more classically "quiet" than a meeting in the night?
I'm game, that's why I had Mia suggest it.
Since Fyterion is being so wishy-washy I'll wait for Whistler's reaction and THEN I'll post the next scene.
OK, Adventure #1 officially concluded. Good job, everyone! But again, I made it extra-easy because I was "testing" how this was going to work; from here on, we get serious, so be ready!
Oh yeah, the Baker still owes you 30 CP plus all the bread you can eat. Just don't mention there was a rat in his bakery to anyone!
Btw, had you guys let the herder go, Whistler would have gained Advantage from the act of kindness. But hey, I cannot tip you guys about these- you gotta earn them!
So, what are your next plans? You haven't even formally introduced yourselves to each other. Will you split the money? Officially form a party? If so, what will it be called? And will you stay in Berth or travel?
I think it was supposed to be 2000, not 200?
Whoops, right.

Ok, your votes are counted. Waiting for the others'. As usual, majority rules.
