- ) We dont rename tropes based on people on Facebook (or else where on the web) objecting to it. We rename them if the're broken.
- ) We are not prescriptive; we don't name tropes based on what we think "should be" ,we name them based on what is.
- ) Yes, the name is racist. The trope is racist. The name was coined by Spike Lee because the trope is racist.
- ) The name Magical Negro" is a pre-existing term used outside of this wiki (See above: coined by Spike Lee in 2001 — three years before TV Tropes even existed.): we didn't make it up. It's widely used in lit-crit and scholarly works of analysis.
- ) It's not simply that they're "Token" so that suggestion doesn't even apply to the trope.
To your other points: Merging the various "Magical" tropes will not accomplish anything good. It will simply muddy the distinctions between them; these distinctions include where the "magic" generally comes from and what the lesson they're there to teach the white protagonist tends to be.
Declining to open.

So we REALLY need to change the name on this trope - the trope name is itself racist and I've noticed various threads on Facebook complaining about it. Personally, I think we need to merge it under Token Minority and make a Token Minority subtrope for all of the Magicals (Magical Queer, Magical Native American, etc) OR we need to change the name to something like Magical Black Person or Token African-American.
