Over the years I and other people have noticed a lot of misuse/overuse when it comes to Nightmare Fuel subpages where people list just about everything under the sun for on those pages. I realize that it's supposed to be a subjective trope, and just because I don't find it scary doesn't mean someone else won't, but looking at a lot of these examples I'm noticing two main types of overuse which come off as shoehorning.

In the case of the first, I'm seeing a lot of examples where the people explicitly acknowledge that they're not listing them because they personally find them scary but but because they believe someone out there might, which essentially gives them license to include just about anything under the sun including a low-polygon model getting beat up or generic forms of jerkassery and bullying as Nightmare Fuel (which would be hyperbolic). You never see this kind of justification with any of the other subpages, such as Awesome/Ho Yay, where they list a scene because they think someone else might find it awesome/funny/homoerotic rather than themselves. It's an issue specific to Nightmare Fuel subpages, which suggests there may be issues with the trope definition if so many people are making this mistake.

In the case of the second class of misuse, I also notice a lot of examples which point out the scariness comes from thinking about it too hard or pondering hypothetical bad end scenarios, which sounds like a clear case of better fitting under Fridge Horror (which explicitly defines itself as a combination of Fridge Logic and Nightmare Fuel), and therefore in the cases of works with both a Nightmare Fuel page and a Fridge page some migration is at hand.

Therefore I wonder if it would be useful to edit the main page for Nightmare Fuel to indicate "to avoid excessive examples [and Square Peg Round Trope], only list things that you personally find scary" as well as create a clearer redirect to Fridge Horror to avoid future misuse. I understand if we decide not to do anything about the former for the sake of playing it safe, but at least in the case of Fridge Horror examples, I believe the issues with misuse here are pretty unambiguous.

If an example fits under Fridge Horror better you can move it there, and there is no rule against the first thing.

More importantly, this has been to TRS so many times in the past that without some prior discussion in say Trope Talk we are not going to have yet another one. Thus declining this thread.
