Ya know I always wanted to read these Sonic comics but the large issue count always intimidated me.
Heh this is good for me, I can finally get into this shit.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."There was a soft reboot just a few years back you know. That would've been the perfect time to jump in.
I know but I didn't hear about it till like a long while afterwards.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'm wondering how exactly will IDW's continuity will start. Will it go for a soft reboot angle continuing from Archie's continuity or will it go for a fresh and independent start?
Likewise do you think SEGA will be stricter with IDW then they are with Archie (particular on the character front)?
If IDW reboots, it will almost certainly be a hard reboot.
As for whether IDW will be on a longer or shorter leash than Archie was, I think they'll be a little looser than post-Worlds Collide Archie was, but not by much. A general sense of "Don't make us come over there" in regards to ensuring no repeats of the Penders snafu and, in general, keeping any lawsuits to a minimum.
RE: Ian Flynn and the #KnowingSmile:
How often does he do that and how effective has it been as of late?
Does this means there's a chance that Ian would write for IDW's Sonic comics?
I think that's what everyone here is assuming.
I wonder, which Decepticon would serve as a foil for each Sonic character?
Well, I'm finally caught up with the Sonic comics, what's new with the series- OH.
Okay, again, this might still be nothing regarding Sonic.
Having said that...
Ian Flynn to Twitter: KNOWING INTENSIFIES.
Dont care until he tells something specific. Flynn does the "knowing smile" thing a lot.
Is it weird I honestly wouldn't object if most of the Freedom Fighters didn't return (most since I'd hope they at least brought Nicole back) if they brought back the Egg Bosses? Don't me wrong, it isn't that I support them to the point of forgetting about the Freedom Fighters, I'd support both if possible. It's just that outside of the Western comics the recurring villains (so that rules out one-offs like Black Doom or Dark Gaia) in the franchise have been low compared to the heroes, and Eggman is largely fighting Sonic's posse alone (or has his hardly helpful robots around).
They're among the most recent members to the franchise, and they have a lot of potential that got wasted thanks to Archie Sonic's cancellation. They're antagonists of varying levels of villiany and different motives all joined under one banner that is The Eggman. Accounting for their pre-SGW predecessor we've never really had such a group of this size on Eggman's team, much less loyal ones (or desperate enough to follow him in the case of Cassia and Clove) who side with him over Team Sonic. Eggman has had both robotic and flesh henchmen working for him, but never a characterized group of that size and dependability. I find it refreshing to see that shaken up.

Honestly, with or without the Freedom Fighters I'm just hoping that the new comic will be a reboot. I feel like starting off fresh with an overall new series would be the best route to take. Doing so means that I'd be able to treat this comic as it's own thing, whereas with the reboot, regardless of it's quality, it's hard for me to disassociate those reboot issues from the entire mess that was the legal problems that ultimately killed the comic {Which also caused unavoidable writing problems such as certain characters not even being remotely upset at thousands of their friends and family members being not only killed, but wiped from existence}.
I think they couldn't fully remember anyone that was gone, especially after whole thing was proven to be irreversible. Also I'm 90% sure it's a reboot.
Oh, I'm sure its a reboot. I just fear that it'll be a clean slate reboot with all of the non-game characters left out. That'd be a valid decision on their part, but I can't say I don't feel an attachment to the Freedom Fighters.
I for one hope that IDW Sonic is a mishmash of many different Sonic continuities. (Of course legal problems would hurt that)
Okay, whatever Ian Flynn's #KnowingSmile is, we're going to find out soon.
Also, friendly reminder: next Thursday will be the start of New York Comic Con 2017...and IDW will be revealing the first details of its plans for Sonic there.
From the linked page above:
...Coincidence?
(Probably. But let's just be prepared for anything, 'kay?)

So, do the comics follow game canon or what? I could never enjoy Archie's because it wasn't enough like the games and at the same time it wasn't as interesting as Fleetway's. I didn't care about Sally or the Freedom Fighters or Mobius, I just wanted straight up game!Sonic in comic form.
No offense, but if all you wanted was Game!Sonic, then why didn't you just stick to Game!Sonic? Because none of the adaptations in all of the years of spin-off media have just been Game!Sonic 100%, not even Fleetway. It's kind of one of the cardinal rules of the franchise at this point, for better or worse.
Also, if 'not enough like the games' was your problem, then what stopped you from reading Postboot? That basically was the games, just with the Freedom Fighters in it.

Speaking of the Fleetway comic, characters from there cameoed in an Archie issue once, as did Tiara B. from Sonic- X-treme.
...Unfortunately said issue was 134 XD;
The Protomen enhanced my life.
So this could be anything or even nothing, but... Ian Flynn knows something and he's smiling about what he knows. Not to mention he just met with one of the guys putting the IDW Sonic team together. It's too early to say for sure, but this just might be a good sign.
