Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun: Episode 10: Wait, Belaf woke Nanachi up and gave her his value just because he likes her and the crew? An unexpectedly wholesome moment that kind of blindsided me. And of course Mitty can’t survive outside the village. Can’t have people getting too happy.

Speaking of people not getting too happy, wow I feel like I just watched an episode of Happy Tree Friends. Yum. Sorry Reg I’m sure you didn’t enjoy Faputa’s claws down your throat.

Nice to see some questions from earlier get answered. I dig the explanation that Faputa couldn’t enter Iruburu because children can’t reenter their mothers. That is some great weird fantasy logic.

Oooooh those glimpses into pre-Riko Reg are so tantalizing. Definitely makes you think that Reg was sent by Lyza to find Riko. Faputa being infatuated with Reg was also cute. Shame about the, uhh, current circumstances. Man that final scene where Faputa slams Reg into the ground and the music cuts off… CHILLS. Really sucks for Faputa that her prince forgot all about her and has gone adventuring with two other ladies.

On one hand, that a child can’t reenter their mother makes sense in weird way… but on the other, that Faputa was given a purpose that she couldn’t physically fulfill without a very specific help is some weird oversight from the Abyss.

Anyway, yeah, smitten Faputa was totally adorbs. Ignoring the "head in Reg’s pants" thing. That sure happened.

Meanwhile, Nanachi has to watch Mitty die a second time, because no one can have good things in this hellhole.

Shoutout to the Hollow who took a shot at Faputa with the crossbow, provoking her into letting Reg go (by chucking the guy at the crossbowman). Same guy who('s mouth) made Riko decided on that actually edible testicle-dish at Moogie's, so he has been relatively helpful so far.

At least the “head in pants” thing didn’t seem too sketchy, she was just acting like an overexcited dog.

It is weird that Faputa couldn’t enter the village but at the same time the Abyss loves screwing with you.

It really is And Then It Got Worse The Anime, because just as everything looks a little brighter then comes the sixth layer wildlife.

S2E11: There is a lot of munching in this episode, and all of it makes me lose my appetite. Faputa getting eaten by the Abyssal beasts is one thing, but the villagers cutting off their flesh parts and shoving it into Faputa's mouth? Admirable, but gross nonetheless.

Belaf wanted to die all along. But he wanted to give Faputa memories before he did. You were a fine chap, Belaf.

Looks like next week Faputa is about to kick some beastly butt. Go forth, princess, and decide your own value.

I have a feeling Vueko and Faputa will become the next party members.

Good god, I had forgotten that Faputa was maimed so brutally.

And now the villagers who had eaten her siblings feed themselves to her. Ain’t that a fitting end.

Sort of wish they had included how Faputa and Gabu met from the volume 8 extras though, would have made the latter's death hit even harder.

Yeah, that would have been nice. Put it up along Vueko and Pakkoyan's relationship on the list of things they cut for no reason.

It also shows just how feral Faputa started out, which puts her behavior into context better. While I like this season/adaption a lot, I do think an extra episode would have helped the pacing a bit.

On the subject, maybe we should put Gaburoon on the character page?

I mean… it’s from a volume extra. It’s nice bonus stuff but it’s perfectly valid to leave it out.

Someone already put them up before, but I commented out the folder because it had no tropes in it.

Well, that's easy enough: Arm Cannon, Bodyguarding a Badass, Heroic Sacrifice, Meaningful Name and Undying Loyalty, those all fit right?

I believe they do, but I'm not confidant in writing new entries myself, especially when it comes to being concise while still being clear.

S2E12: Finally, goodbye to Irumyuui.

So much for Vueko joining the party. Her Hollowification was tough to watch, and stings more because of how unceremonious it was. And Pakkoyan died just to buy her a little more time. The Abyss truly is unforgiving.

Dammit they hit us with the Faputa-Gabu flashbacks. Pain.

What a great arc. I’m excited to see what’s next. Faputa will be very helpful as additional muscle. And she can talk with Prushka!

Yeah I think I’m gonna catch up with the manga now.

You've got about four chapters to go, so now's the time. Unless you don't want to wait years for the next anime, but you'll have to either way.

Also, I'm curious what anime-only folks made of Pakkoyan's sacrifice given the scene cuts earlier in the anime.

I had completely forgotten how Majikaja died so that was nice to rediscover that scene. =]

Faputa… Never has a character been so terrifying yet so genuinely adorable at the same time.

Yeah, although to be fair they still gave at least a few hints that she was attached to her in some way. Not a whole lot to work with though.

Yeah, I have already caught up. Faputa is adorable. I’ll be keeping up with the manga thread from here on out.

Faputa is indeed adorable.

Additional notes: I think it was brilliant how Vueko realized that she “still had humanity left to lose.” That despite being “sullied” in her childhood and partaking in the flesh of Irumyuui’s children, she remained human. And the fact that Irumyuui never admonished her, and treating their memories together as her most prized possession… Downright beautiful.

Well, this thread will be pretty much going into dormancy once the season ends and the last viewers get through the last episode. After that, I guess the manga thread will be the place to go.

We should get another chapter next month, I think?

When we get a new chapter is always anyone’s guess with this series. >.> Sometimes we have two in a month, sometimes it takes 6 months.

For those who, like me, have waited for their next shot of Kevin Penkin's goodness, the Season 2 OST is now out and about. Enjoying it a lot so far, obviously. Old Stories, Ryusazai, Reg & his Interference Unit, Drums of Ganja, SAN-KEN and the various tracks for the sixth layer itself are my favorites.
